My son is going to England and France as a student ambassador this coming summer. I'm am far from wealthy so we have to do everything we can think of to fund the trip. What kind of fund raisers have you done? Which ones raised the most money?

I read your post to find out with P2P is...

...I still don't know.

It's a program started by President Eisenhower called People to People Student Ambassadors. It's kind of a good will trip. Our kids go to other countries to learn about their cultures. In return our kids have a home stay with another family and teach them about American culture. When they go to England they will meet members of parliment and possibly go to school with the child in their homestay family, in addition to site seeing. In preparation our kids have to learn a lot about federal and state govt. It's a great opportunity but very expensive for someone like me, $5000 for 19 days.

Hi Teenee!
I am a P2P delegation leader and have been for 6 years. I am also doing the UK trip this summer. Do you have a copy of the fundraising letter??? I think that it is the best fundraiser. You send this letter to local businesses, corporate offices, family, etc. Each letter requests a 50 dollar donation. I met a group this summer from Indiana that many students paid for their entire trip using the letter. Send me a pm if you would like a copy-:) Ellen::MinnieMo

Ellen, I do have the fundraising book. I have sent some letters, more going out this weekend. We are also selling candy, planning a yard sale and are considering a car wash.

WOW! That seems expensive! Our DD18 went on a 17-day trip to Europe (England, Germany, France, Spain) with students who studied Humanities & Art (she received 6 college credits for future use) and it only cost $3,000.

Our DD (16 at the time) paid for 1/2 of it from working at our local drug store. It took a little while, but that was the only way we could afford it. She learned a lot and had to work to help pay for it.

FOJMO, wow, I wish my sons trip was a little cheaper. Did your daughters fee include food, lodging and transportation?
