P.O.T.C. On Stranger Rides! The Missing Chapter,,Final Thoughts,, Preview Thoughts.

I get it, and I’m surprised Nebo didn’t. It’s from Sandlot, a great family movie set in the late 50s or early 60s about a group of kids who play baseball all summer on a sandlot. My kids and grandkids love it.

Way back in the middle ages when I was a brand new bride, we lived in San Diego for 3 months and went to Disneyland once. Two years later we lived in Florida and starting going to WDW twice a year. (My ex was as big a Disney fan as I am.)
I remember liking Disneyland greatly, and it had more than WDW, but the Florida park was new back then and very small (more area but fewer attractions). My ex got out of the military and we moved away before EPCOT was finished. My memories of DL kind of blend into those of WDW. I do remember that there was a restaurant down underground at the end of POTC, which was cool. And it had a really cool canoeing attraction.

I don’t know what y’all are talking about with the weird stuff on VW Beetles. We had a ‘69 that we bought in ‘79 as a second car for my ex to drive to work. It had a heater and nothing weird and was totally dependable. It was canary yellow with a new interior and new paint job and mag wheels - very cute. After moving to Montana, we had to put chains on it a couple of times and they made a horrible racket hitting the inside of the wheel well because of the mag wheels.

You got it! Great job.

The Sandlot is one of Mr. T's favorite movies. He knows the movie inside and out and still watches it every time it comes on TV.

The clip that I posted was just a snip-it of the piece where they take "Smalls" to the clubhouse for a sleepover and tell him the story of The Beast. I hate to admit it, but I do like the movie, and will occasionally sit and watch it, and in fact do know quite a few quotes from it. But shhh...If that information got out, Who knows what could happen.

On a completely different topic...Anyone else watching the M*A*S*H* Marathon on the Hallmark channel today? While Mr. T can watch the Sandlot over and over, I can watch M*A*S*H* Reruns and never get tired of them. :goodvibes

It would be sooo cool to have one of those, but I don't deserve it... I know I don't. I almost always overlook opportunities to put smileys in my posts. Like here. This would be a great time for an unsmiling smiley. Wait, I see one that is just right.

Ditto that - in fact I used that quote so much that we had to watch that movie with our kids just so they would have a clue as to what I was talking about. They loved the movie and use that line every now and then also.

That's Mr. T's favorite quote too. Mr. T uses it quite often, especially when I say something dumb or I give him a confused look after he tells me something...:rotfl:

WOW, i'm still back on page 144 with your horrendous ride home. Glad you made it OK, but how scary! I absolutetly hate people riding my bumper, do they have a death wish? Unfortunatly, it's 12:45 and I'm drooping, so I will catch up latet tomorrow.

Dang, the Dis ate my post yet again. Im still back on page 144 when you finished your ride home. I absolutely hate bumper riders. It's very late, so I will have to catch up later. Glad you made it home safely (obviously), but a horrendes/horrendous/ bad trip home.

popcorn::

Hey! Wait a sec. First I get crowned King of the Smileys and suddenly I'm just a Duke? I've been deposed!

Was the deposition an imposition to your minions?

I figured that was the pic you mentioned. Great shot and a wonderful memory. Your Dad (I think I said this before) sure seems like he was a wonderful man.

SML:"Nebo! Is that you? I love your TR!"
Nebo to Smidgy: "Who's she?"
Smidgy: "She's Snowmanlover."
Nebo: "She's no man lover? Guess I'm safe... not that there's anything wrong with that."

yeah, not worried about Snowmen,,, it's March.

That would've been perfect if it had been the last post on this thread! :)

Do you have any idea when it's time to be, or make,, somthing the last post on the thread?
Ive tried that,,, great post,,, I contact Oh Mari by pm,,

tell her to move it,, NOW,,,, 4 days later it was put in the
mortuary,,,, after 6 more people posted!
I"m just teasin my Badger friend in case you ever check in here.

I love that line. One of my favorite quotes, don't know who said it: "He considers himself a wit, he was half right."

I like that too.

True story alert.

My beetle was great, but it did have one not so great thing about it. Whenever I drove it in the summer for more than 5 minutes, the starter would get hot (from the engine, it wasn't doing anything else once the car was 'on'). When metal is heated it expands. Something in that starter would expand enough that it wouldn't work until it cooled down.

So this is a typical day in the summer:

Drive to mall or whatever.
Go inside and start worrying.
Come outside and pray.
Attempt to start car.
Curse.
Grab tools from back seat. Open trunk (it's a bug. that's where the engine is.)
Squeeze hand behind engine and remove starter motor.
Install spare second-hand starter motor that I always keep in the car. (I got pretty good at it. Could do it in about 10-15 minutes)
Start engine.
Drive to next location.
Repeat from the top.

How many car manufacturers out there today would expect you to change out a starter motor any time you wanted to go anywhere?

Isn't it amazing how hard life used to be? true story:

In '79, newly married living on the 4th floor of an apartment building in a land of apartment buildings on a thin, narrow street in Chicago,,, you were lucky if you could even park on the same block and we both got very good at Parallel ,,, parralel,,, paralel,,,, backing in and going forward,, repeat,,, parking.
I could back that humongous '73 Chevy Impala into a spot you couldn't back a Renault Le Car into! (don't go there)

But when it got around zzero degrees out,,, see that? myhands are shivering even thinking about it again,,,
this car wouldn't start unless you popped the hood and inserted a screwdriver into the choke on the top of the carbuerator. Now, go try it again. If you were lucky, and the battery still had enough juice and it did "catch",, you had to be very carefull then when you got back out and went and pulled out the screwdriver.
Not just because it might die, and you would have to start all over,,, but because of the flames that were sometimes shooting out of th top of the carbeurator.

Yeah, I needed that.

Thanks folks! :goodvibes

:rolleyes1

Well, I'm going to look forward to it, gotta have something to get me through the rest of this winter :cold:

The Princess Half marathon -- yes, many many ladies do dress as princesses and/or wear tutus. I'm not going there, I'm just in my regular running gear. And it's a half marathon, so you only have to run 13.1 miles, I leave 26.2 to the professionals! :goodvibes 5% of the 17,000 participants are men -- so you can find some princes out there. They have a ton of characters and entertainment along the route (starts at Epcot pkg lot, through MK and then a little bit of Epcot). This year they had one station with men in tuxes with shoes, proposing. I didn't stop since I already found my prince, and after 18 years I have him broken in (err, we've "grown together") just the way I like him. :rotfl:

I will say, I have never seen so many grown women in tiaras in my life. Lots of ladies wear them all weekend. I almost feel left out without one. Almost.

Maria :upsidedow

thank you worfiedoodles,,, yes, i like that better than Maria,,, but as far as the Princess half Marathon goes,,,, um,,, let me know when it gets down to the 16th Marathon,,,,,I'm there!

You have no idea of the depths of my disappointment.
The Who? Who are you? Roger Daltrey? Pete Townshend? Keith Moon?

Oh, just go here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5kmCgVhADY

Ok, got me, my bad. No, I didn't even click on your link,,,,, for some reason I never expect too many of my cultural upbringings to transfer to a younger guy in a different country!

As for the Who,,, I STILL say to this day that the greatest, single ALBUM ever made it "Who's Next",,,,, there is not a bad song on it and it's not a greatest hits thing.
But after that? ,,, no,,, didn't much care for them,,, Squeeze box,,, "Who,, Are You... ".... didn't work for me, it seemes cheap , crappy pop stuff compared to the brilliance of "Tommy",,,

Meanwhile, back at the ranch.....

Well, I am finally caught up!

It sure is weird when you post about something that happened 5 pages ago, and the rest of the gang is in the midst of paying homage to the great author :worship:

Anyway, back in present time now. I have to say, there were some great comments, I got verklemmpt myself (and I didn't have to google it). So many talented people here. Love you all.:hippie:

Now, Nebo, you know you won't be able to not write anything about your April trip, right? You'll miss your Dis family and you'll want to tell us something and it would kill you not to. So I am looking forward to the further adventures of Nebo and Smidgy in the near future.

LY/MI
Marita

Ah Marita,,, you know I love you.
And you signed with the "Love you, mean it" signature of
Dell'swife,,,,,,for those that don't know, she was the "Queen of the Trip Reports", Real name, Robin Costello, who passed away suddenly a few months ago.

You really are the Queen of Smileys. I don’t know where you find all of them.

I get it, and I’m surprised Nebo didn’t. It’s from Sandlot, a great family movie set in the late 50s or early 60s about a group of kids who play baseball all summer on a sandlot. My kids and grandkids love it.

Wait, yellow VW? You married Ren!
So, can you breakdance and do the Robot too?

and that's so funny about Sandlot,,, Di was watching it the other night,,, and I told her I've only seen parts of it,, she says it's a must and to put it on Netflix.

At least we're all learning something here. We're learning what verklempt means and learning how to become one another. pixiedust:

Oh, THAT'S what we're doin'? ... I was waiting for Jeff Dunham to come out and start the ventriloquism lessons. :upsidedow

What? Mash Marathon,, and nobody told me? Aaaah, didn't really matter, we babysat Kaylie an Mason at there house today and now Dianes' shows are on.

Ok, I just said I'll watch it!

"You're killin' me, Smalls" is a favorite quote around my house.

Really, I take your word for it, I'll watch it.

Ditto that - in fact I used that quote so much that we had to watch that movie with our kids just so they would have a clue as to what I was talking about. They loved the movie and use that line every now and then also.

I already said I'm gonna wat,,, oh, never mind!

I see you took lessons from Nebo and Smidgy

Don't you have another ten pages to fall behind on?

Lady H forget to log me out?

YOU'RE KILLIN' ME SMALLS!!

I,,,,oh forget it!

I hate the ending of a trip report!:sad2:

Not much more to say than that....except how much I love you and Smidgy! I can't count the times over the past few years that you have made me laugh till I cried. I love having wonderful imaginery friends like you!

Oh brother, it took me 45 minutes to get to the post reply page, then another half hour when I saw i was logged in as Smidgy and I had to start over.
Nebo is crabby.
Yes, I always talk in the 3rd person when I'm crabby,
ok, who can I pick on?

Canary Yellow VW with mag wheels, and we've already been over this, I married Steve - a different Steve. Uh, who's Ren?

Yes, I know, your ex husband who was eaten by a shark.
Ren is Kevin Bacon's character in the original Footloose who drove a yellow VW bug. GEESH! You didn't know that?
Hey, if I can catch crap for not knowing Smalls and Sandlot......by the way,,, it's at the top of the Netflix list now, should have it by Thursday.

Oh heck,,, how can I stay crabby when you go and say that? Thank you Cherie, we've had a lot of laughs together, and from DJay too, but you do realize that the meeting we had at Biergarten removed the "imaginary" label.

Ok, guess it's time to talk a bit about the upcoming trip:

It's from April 29 to May 9.

Allright, thank you very much, see you after the August trip.

Oh allright, when I kept pushing the subject on the way home from our wonderful last September trip that tried to kill us, we were actually considering just about coming right back to get it right, a "right after Thanksgiving trip".

After the last freeze our butts off triip I had pretty much nixed future winter type trips,,, but now I"m wavering again and thinking that it just COULDN"T be that cold again.
But logistics and stuff eventually wouldn't make it possible,,, you can only tell your bosses you need to take off so often before they make you take off permanently, so Smidgy didn't even want to ask.
It then eventually turned into the dates we have now, and once the 25 % code came out for Coronado ,,, that pretty much iced it. This was all before we knew about our son taking HIS son and wife in August and inviting us too.

He also knew if he DIDN"T invite us we'd have to kill him.

So,,,,, Coronado it is, this will be our 4th time staying there,, first time was in '05 for our very first Free Dining experience,,, and first time flying down, 7 nights in Casitas, building 5 over looking part of the lake, a water view upgrade for free. Second time was in '07, 6 nights in the Cabanas that wound up an incredible trip that started at Hard Rock Hotel,,, remember? Kung Foo Fighting and The Joker by the pool? And getting lost over at Portofino Bay,,, not to mention the really cool fight at Pat O'brians'.

Again, we had trouble getting a "smoking" room, and eventually they gave us a free upgrade to a room right next to the cabana's quiet pool.

Third time was in February of '08, we were supposed to be in a ground floor room in building 3 in the casitas,,, we went and looked where they said it would be and I wasn't really happy,, the view was of a row of hedges right in front of us. But while we were waiting for it to be ready,,, Diane called to check on it and got the greatest cast member,,,,

"No, it's still not ready yet, but if you'd like I can give you a lake view but it's on the third floor."

We took it in a hearbeat and to this day, it's still the best overall view room we've ever had in Disney; it was a dead on Lke view, and the funny thing was, there was a standing ashtray 15 feet away from our door! We didn't even have to sneak smokes or run down to a DSA. But that was only for 5 nights, then we left to stay in Kissimmee to go house hunting, or at least neighborhood hunting,,, that's when we got that really crappy room where everything was falling apart, so every time we go to CS, our stays have gotten shorter.

Not this time,, this is for 10 days, we're flying down, got tickets for 220 a person that I could have had for 205 if I had not put it off hoping it would drop.
Since we are flying,, we have no cooler for food like we usually do,,and it occurred to me that every time we flew, we've always had the free dining plan to not worry about food, so now what? There is no free dining this spring!

And Coronado and Pepper Market is NOT a place to have to buy food out of pocket, that is NOT a cheap food court, so we decided to do something I have always wanted to do,, just get the quick service dining plan, so that's what we ended up doiing.

And, as usual,,, once we make up our minds and bite the bullet,,, Disney changes the rules.

First, they dropped a daily snack off the quick service plan.
Second, Pepper market changed over to an All you can eat buffet for breakfast and lunch, but supposedly, dinner is still the same, but SO FAR, the buffets are still a counter service credit, which blows everybody away right now, but if it stays this way, it's a real deal!

Well, it would be for most people, I'm not a breakfast eater usually, no way am I eating a big buffet and then going to a park, and even if it's a resort day, I want to be by the pool with my Bathroom Reader or the Newspaper.

But then, more bad news slid in:
Our favorite rides in all of Disney are BTMR, and Test Track.

Would you care to guess which 2 major rides will be refurbished during this time period?
Yep, we couldn't believe it!
How come they never seem to refurbish Sounds Dangerous, or Stitche's Escape?

And I can never find the new furbishes anywhere.

Crap, even the LibertyBelle Steamboat is going to be down.
Smidgy had already said that we can now FINALLY spend time looking in all the shops on Main Street that we've never been in.

Be still my pounding heart!

However, I am looking forward to being back at CS,,, I only put one single room request on our ressie,,, building 7B.
This is a Rancho's building, we've never stayed in the Ranchos but I love the quiet pool there, it's really cool looking with huge boulders and cactii and stuff.

But it's a tricky request,,, that is the ONLY rancho building we want, it's right by the quiet pool and really near the signature main pool,, which also has a counter serviece stand for hot dogs and cheesburgers and fries,, all the other rancho buildings are miles away from anything.

IF we can't get in that building, I have no idea what we'll do,,,, Casitas 1,2, 3, are now preferred, and while the Cabanas are actually the most convenient,, the theming there is really non existent,,,CBR blows it away for ocean front, island type theming. I suppose casitas 5 would be my next choice.

On the subject of tickets, since we are going in August, we'l turn our tickets into annual passes for the first time in our lives, I know the kids want hoppers so we might as well do it now for this trip and enjoy having hoppers here, as well.

What's new for us this trip?

A couple things, besides following Smidgy around in stores:

She won a couple squares in a football pool over the winter and put the money away,,, to use as she wants to use it! So we are finally going to do the Luau over at the Poly. We've done Hoop de Do Do twice, but never the Lewow.

And as for Epcot,,, one thing they changed a few years ago when the recession first hit was cut back on the Flower Power concerts,,, they used to run every day during the Flower and Garden Festival,,, now they just have them on the weekends.

I remember in '05 we saw our first "concert" at the American Gardens Theater,, The Lovin' Spoonfull, (apostrophe trademarked), and even though the concerts only last a half hour,, we really enjoyed it.

The next year we caught 3 different groups in one trip,, Association who I had really liked as a teenager, but oh, man, they sucked. Also B.J. Thomas who was really good, and yes, Davy Jones who also was terrific.

Davy was supposed to be back this year too, not sure who is replacing him but I've heard that David Cassidy is taking some of his other commitments, but I checked the ledger,, and two new names have appeared on the show list for the time we will be there.

We have a really early 6 am flight, so if we can check in early enough and go over to Epcot that first Sunday, Chuck Negron will be there performing.

Who? you say.

He is one of the members of 3 Dog Night, so I guess we'll see One Dog Night that day,, you know,, Easy to be Hard, One, Eli's Coming, Out in the Country, Liar, Celebrate, Mama Told me not to Come,,,, and lots more, so I'm kind of looking forward to that.

We actually saw them once,, rigtht here in good old Carpentersville back in around '90, at the yearly Jamboree days our town put on, and they really sounded great.
I think it was 2 Dog Night back then.

Then, starting the next Friday for 3 days a few members of Electric Light Orchestra will take the stage, and I have the hardest time picturing them playing at DisneyWorld.
Everybody remember them?
Livin Thing, Strange Magic, Can't get it out of my Head, Telephone Line, Don't Bring me Down,,, and others, so it gives me something to do while I"m whining about no Test Track.

I guess that's pretty much it, I'll talk to Diane to see if I'm leaving anything out right now.

Oh yeah, just thought of something:
One reason I've shunned hoppers passes in recent years is
because we like to collect fastpasses in the morning to use at night, should be interesting to see how the new system plays out with FP.

well, one thing you left out... well, changed... I only won one square, the rest of the money for the luau I earned.. I got a christmas bonus from the VFW,some christmas bonuses from house cleaning, AND, a couple who are my regular customers at the restaurant gave me a christmas card with a $50 christmas tip!!!! (gee, guess they must like me?)
but.. Noooo, nebo makes it all sound like "luck". harrumph!

everytime I have either won money or got extra money, I always say.."this is MY money, to do with what I want, something we weren't going to do until I got the money, something EXTRA.. NOT "gee, glad you got the extra money, that will help pay for "such and such" that we were going to do anyway.

so, I booked the luau, which I always wanted to do.. I know, I know, it gets poor reviews, but I always wanted to do it. and I ensured that my extra money doesn't end up just being "swallowed up". I considered not telling him at all about the money, but cracked.(the christmas tip from the customers, um.. I cracked the very next morning!!! ) nebo should just be glad I am spending it on us and not buying myself a bunch of clothes or something!!

I hope it's fun!!! I paid for category one, so we'll be up front. another reason we never did this is it can be cancelled for inclement weather. now, what do you do with 2 TS credits at the last minute? (someone on a thread once suggested, "well, if the weather's bad anyway, we just use them for room service" yeah, I want to sit in the room and eat on that little table, for 2 TS credits!) and who knows if you can get in any signature places last minute?
well, solved that problem pay cash! If it is cancellled, we get our money back, and no credits to waste!.

I think it'll be a fun trip. while nebo is dreading flying, I am looking forward to not having the long drive. (esp after the sept. drive!:scared1:) yes, I will miss not having the car, and all my STUFF! we'll bring a few bottles of vodka and whiskey, we'll have the mugs for mixes, and we'll take the bus to DTD, walk across to the Hess, and buy beer. it'll be fine... no, it'll be great!!!:woohoo::cloud9:

I have visions of upcoming trip reports already. Flying?? Really?? Steel tube of death? I look forward to your CSR comments, it is one of the resorts I am considering for our next stay. Won't be until June 2013 but already trying to figure out exactly when and where. I graduate this December (with my Masters, I'll be a Nurse Practitioner) and my son graduates in May/June 2013 from high school so... we're going to have a big "we done got our diplomas" celebratory trip.

Hi all,

Still stringing along several pages back. Your final day is still coming to an end back where I am. Fell behind again as we have been busy prepping for our first non-Florida vacation in ummm, 15 years? Leaving on Friday for the far left coast of Mexico.

But I did just want to share a milestone with everyone as this is my 500th post on DIS. I think that means I finally get to graduate from Mouseketeer? Or do I still have another 500 to go until that happens?

I know from browsing ahead a bit that this is coming to end. Just wanted to say that I will look forward to your next trip report; hopefully there is at least one more to keep the magic alive for a full year until we are with the mouse again. Either that or Ponzi has to write that pre-trip report.
