So I'm a new DVC member and I'm wondering what does everyone store at Owners Locker, how many times you go a year to make it worth it, and how expensive is it?

I'll let others give you the specifics of the program but I can tell you we LOVE our OL! Now that they charge for luggage, we can just bring a carry on with a few days clothes and everything else is in the OL. We keep all the bathroom stuff in there (including medicines and makeup) along with a bottle of kahlua, we have a guide book, swimsuits and sweatshirts, hats, sunglasses, binoculars, a router (which we won't need anymore) spices for grilling meat, laundry products, etc...

We go at least once a year, sometimes more.

And btw, the service has always worked exactly like its advertised. We have never had a problem with delivery or communication.

I can't imagine going back to the days before there was an Owner's Locker. I love our lockers. We store stuff listed above as well as Christmas and Halloween stuff and special equipment my DH needs for mobility problems. We always fly to WDW, so our lockers save lots of space in luggage, but the best part for me is the ease of packing and unpacking for our trips.
Here is a link to Owner's Locker website with info:

When I think of all the money we spend for DVC and our trips to WDW, Owner's Locker is the absolute best value. And you won't believe the A+ service!

$75 initial fee for which DVC members get 20% discount. That includes purchase of the purple box and your first delivery of the box and pick-up. Then $99 a year for storage and one delivery and pick-up per year. Additional deliveries/pick-ups after the one per year are $25. If you are actually going to be there several times a year you can consider the premium plan which is $179 a year with unlimited deliveries and pick-ups (all quoted prices include any tax).

I don't have the box but I store golf clubs with Owners Locker (since I was not getting a box I did not pay the initial fee). I usually go two to three times a year. Cost beats the cost and hassle of hauling the clubs back and forth in a plane every trip.

I *have* to have a latex foam pillow to sleep in addition to a white noise machine, so those were first in my locker. In addition, I keep pretty much what everyone else does- extra clothing and toiletries, spices for cooking, a can of Pam, extra laundry detergent, make-up, hairbrush and hairspray, toothbrush and paste, you get the idea. The only things I take with me to WDW are my meds and any extra clothing I think I might need if the weather changes. I never have to pack socks, undies, sleepwear, extra shoes or hoodies because it's all there. I love just having a carry on for the flight. With Owner's Locker and Garden Grocer to deliver my groceries, I'm good! Love my OL!

We fly on Southwest, so we get free luggage. For that reason, I was never able to make the math argument of having an Owner's Locker make sense. I held out for a long time based on that.

After hearing so many people raving about it, though, I finally just gave in and decided to give it a shot. Once we had our first locker, I realized it wasn't so much about savings as it was about convenience. I don't have to organize, pack, and lug that extra suitcase(s) of stuff through the airport any more. When we pack, we just pack our clothes and the few items that need to be replenished. We know everything else we'll need is already organized and will be waiting for us when we arrive.

Also to the convenience argument is that your locker will hold things that you'd never think to pack in a suitcase to take on vacation, but sure come in handy when you need them. For example, we have a nice pair of scissors, some real kitchen knives (DVC's are pitiful!), a Swiss Army knife, a small tool set, some zip ties, and a roll of duct tape in ours.

In the end, there have been some savings. I can buy bulk size products like shampoo and shower gel (the products we want to use, not just whatever's being used by the resort that year). We can have good coffee in the room, and not have to buy cups of it each morning. Also, we use Sweet-n-Low, which is hard to find at WDW. We have several bottles of alcohol, and can mix ourselves a drink in the room which is certainly a savings over Disney bar prices. (I never would have packed something like that before our locker.) A big savings for us is having the Brita pitcher, and not having to buy so much bottled water. We also don't have to throw away unused quantities of as many things as we used to at the end of a stay.

After time, we graduated to a second locker. We typically do several short studio stays a year and one longer trip that will be a week in a studio by ourselves followed by a week in a two-bedroom with friends or family. Our lockers are organized along these lines. We have one locker with "every trip" essentials, such as the laptop, power strips for phone and camera chargers, umbrellas and ponchos, a Brita pitcher, coffee supplies, a bottle of rum, the scissors, a laundry bag and laundry products, a Scrabble board, night lights, first aid supplies, and limited quantities of a broad array of toiletries and medicines. Our second locker is the "extended stay" locker that has additional games, pool toys, BBQ utensils, spices and kitchen supplies, the knife set, bulk quantities of toiletries, several other varieties of booze, and a folding cane in case my knees start acting up on longer trips.

When I got a new laptop a few years ago, the old one became my WDW laptop and stays in our locker. Now I don't have to mess with that extra step at the TSA screening. All I carry now is a small USB hard drive that holds the photos I took during the trip.

We love our OLs.

To start we stored toiletries, laundry supplies, cereal bowls, chargers, router, laundry bin etc. We also had towels as I hate how small the Disney bath ones are!

After a year we added locker number 2 which has clothes for DH & I (DD is 4 and growing so we don't keep much for her as it generally doesn't fit one trip to the next)

Then we added number 3 as we wanted to store nice pillows and some waterproofs.

As for costs when you sign up the membership fee is $75 plus tax ($79.88) or it is discounted for DVC members to $60 plus tax ($63.90). The membership fee includes the purchase of your locker so if you ever decide not to use the service anymore the locker is still yours to keep. It also includes the first delivery and collection.

You then pick an annual storage plan - the standard plan includes one free visit and is $99 per year or the premium plan which is $179 per year. Extra visits on the standard plan are $25 so you need to be visiting 4 or more times a year to make premium worthwhile. There is no tax on the annual visits or the extra visit fees.

We wouldn't be without our OLs and John meets members every Tuesday evening in Epcot so you can go along and meet him and other members. We have made several new friends there :thumbsup2

It's an excellent excuse to schedule a glass of wine in France on a Tuesday evening.

It wouldn't be Tuesday if we didn't have a glass of something in France when at wdw! :thumbsup2

Also just seen on DVC member.com OL have increased the DVC member discount to 25% until 12/31 :)

I have a list of about 125 things that are in our locker. Like another poster said - you think of things to leave that you wouldn't normally bring. Everything from toiletries, sunscreens and OTC meds & flip flops to spray fan bottles to "blue ice" for the collapsible coolers we have in there (to take to the pool or water parks - along with a couple of beach / pool bags). We only use studios so I keep sharp knives, scissors, microwave containers and a stash of paper plates & coffee filters along with extra plastic silverware....a wine glass...large plastic cups to take drinks to the pool....backpacks for the parks...a bottle of Captain Morgan...

There is just a TON of stuff that I no longer have to remember to pack for our trips. I LOVE that we can sometimes just go in carry-ons (trips longer than a week or that include a cruise require more luggage). We TRY to get 2 or 3 trips a year but every other year or so we plan a special sort of vacation which may require that we skip a year. That happened in 2011 because we went to Europe and did a DCL Med cruise and will again in 2013 because we're planning to go to DL / VGC and Aulani. But the year before we did Europe we went 3 times and last year we went 2 times (but they were spread such that I didn't have to pay for the extra OL visits). I miss "our OL stuff" terribly whenever we go somewhere else besides WDW because then I have to remember to pack everything!! I love that I don't have to do that for Disney World. It's worth the price to have it waiting on us when we arrive.:thumbsup2

It does sorta suck that we sometimes have a year that we don't go so we pay the fee and don't use it...but then we try to stagger extra trips on the years we DO go. Our renewal date is May so we can sometimes plan a spring break trip in March/April which is close to our renewal then plan our annual summer trip in August which goes toward the new year.

We're big fans of OL. We've really cut down on our luggage since we've had an OL. Our goal is to just get on the plane with our carry on bags. No sense in taking a bunch of clothing when there's laundry facilities in the villa. We'll probably still check an empty bag to bring goodies home though.

The service from OL is stellar! Any DVC-er should at least try it for a year. :earsboy:

:) We love our OLs. DH laughed at me about my OL...what do you need that for?...gee are you a disney freak or what? By the end of that first trip he HAD TO HAVE IT...so we got a second locker that holds his 100 Toy Story Aliens (that he displays under the TV every year) and of course, his Blanket of Power (long story, different thread)....this past trip he talked about OL #3... I do not think we are ready but the thought of having it is delicious.

This was the first time I left clothes other than undergarments and PJs. He even let me put two of my Vera bags in his box this trip....I guess I am the one who needs #3. :cloud9:

And then there is the text message "we would like to inform you that your OLs, "Duffy" and "Pooh box" are at AKV waiting on you in bell services". That is a great way to start a vacation.

Along with what everyone else has said, I would like to say how much we are thrilled with the convenience and organization.

What I love is that I can fly in late the night before check-in, get our rental car, check into our pre-DVC hotel, and our OL will be waiting for us at that location. We are already into our box and using items that night and in the morning before we check in (umbrellas, sunscreen, and hats are frequently used before check in).

On our check-out day when we usually have a flight later in the evening, we check out, load our OL in our car and head to the parks. On our way out of the World that night, we return any items to the OL that we have used that day and make a quick drop off to luggage service at our resort before we head to the airport. There has been absolutely no issue with leaving the OL at the resort for scheduled pick up the next day.

So how big are these lockers? They can't be that big if people are receiving them at parks? Anyone have a picture?

Does your community do recycling? The bins are like our recycling bins at home only they have covers. It is amazing how much they hold. A plastic box with little compartments, like you might use to store crafting beads, is also provided. I would post a photo but I am waiting in line to see Whoopi Goldberg at CP in Epcot.

Oh ok...that makes sense. Thanks for the info. Say "hi" to Whoopi! =)

My wife keeps a sewing machine. Quilts on rainy days.
