Owner's Locker for drivers?

I would like to hear if many OL members usually drive to WDW or Vero? We typically drive (at least 1x/yr) since we usually travel with four and driving is still cheaper than flying for four at this point. However, we are hoping that there will be times when just DH & I go. If so, we will probably fly. Even though we usually drive, I am considering this. Part of this is that no matter how well I plan, we forget something and have to go shopping. That gets old and wastes some of my vacation time. Plus, we travel with two teens right now, and they never plan well. They also are very pickey about shampoos, razors, etc. Another factor is that we have not done the DxDDP so we always have one meal in the room and lots of snacks/light meals since DD is hypoglycemic and her friend is diabetic. So, we need more utensils, spices, etc. Currently, we travel in a SUV, but if we couldn't, I can't imagine how tight it would be to fit stuff in. I also like being able to do laundry since I can do one load a day and not have to come back with a lot of loads to do after the vacation. We walked around AKL before we bought into DVC just to see what it looked like. While talking with a woman who was a DVC member, she mentioned that her carryon every trip was a crock pot. I can't imagine how much that would get on my nerves. That made me start thinking of this and then after reading what some people put in them, I really am starting to consider it. Even with the DDP or the DxDDP, would some of you mind giving me some input?

I think you've pretty much summarized all of the reasons that we have an OL. :thumbsup2

Admittedly we aren't 100% drivers...we run about 50/50 depending upon flight prices and itineraries. But even if we did drive all the time, I think the OL would be worth it. Like you said, it gives you a fixed set of items that you know you won't:

1. Transport back-and-forth
2. Forget
3. Throw away each time because it's not worth bringing back home
4. Re-buy every trip

For most it still falls under the heading of "luxury item." Sure I could get by without it. But we all have our little indulgences that we manage to justify. :rolleyes1

If I was driving, I wouldn't even consider an Owners Locker. Just seems silly, you can just keep all the stuff you use every trip in one suitcase or rubbermaid? If I was just traveling by air myself and DH, the luggage would be cut in half and then some! Plus we would eat out more. So still can't see why I would need an OL. We do one trip to two trips every 18 months, and see no reason to have one.

Ditto! We purchased our own Rubbermaid-style container and I have filled it with all of the things we always take to WDW. It's the first thing that goes in the car when we pack up. There's no way I'd pay for an OL when this is so easy to do on our own.

Also, keep in mind that if you go to Vero Beach the OL will be pointless as they won't deliver there.

Hi mfd,

We have lots of Members who drive. In fact, the couple in the video on our splash page drive. have a look. They come down in truck with lots of room but love the convenience of an Owner's Locker.

Having a Locker is a very personal decision. I always say that Owner's Locker makes sense to some folks and not to others. If in doubt, I do hope you'll con sider giving us a try. We have a risk free trial where we refund every penny you've paid if you try us and son't like us.

John

Thanks, everyone! I will definitely take a look at the video John. We aren't even going until June and I'm already reading everything I can to make it as good a vacation as possible.popcorn::

We sometimes drive, sometimes fly. We are flying on the 18th of October. I have been saving out summery things to pack, and my pile is about 1/2 of what I would have out if we didn't have our OL. With the airlines charging for everything, it's nice to know that most of our heavy stuff is waiting for us in Florida. I couldn't remember everything in it, so I just printed off the list from the website to remind me. We love it! :thumbsup2

We drive down from Atlanta a lot (see my siggie :upsidedow ), and we actually have had our own version of an "owner's locker" long before they created it as a business.

We call it "The Travel Box" and it's a big plastic bin with a top on it with Disney stickers all over it that just has stuff that we'll need in Disney.

Like right now it has all those crazy light up things that your kids always clamor for at Disney but never use under normal circumstances, a string of mickey/minnie christmas lights, rain ponchos, sunscreen, maps and books, a small coffeemaker that we use for hot water to make instant oatmeal with (we run on instant oatmeal, LOL), you get the picture.

I usually check it about a week before we leave to make sure I don't need to restock anything.

It always goes with us...

We always leave a bag in our car for trips. We call it "the fun bag", and it's filled with, well, fun things! During the summer time I make sure there's things like sun lotion and insect repellant in it too.

We always leave things like binoculars in the car too. It just makes sense, and filling a box or bag with these kind of things, and just leaving it tucked away gives me less to worry about leaving behind.

We drive down two to three times a year and we love having an Owner's Locker. There is no stress in getting packed to go (which can be a huge issue for me as a working mom) and it is nice knowing that everything is waiting for you. All we pack now is our clothes. It may not make sense to some people but it adds to our vacations and for no more than it costs, I will continue to enjoy it!
