Overrated Foods - Let's Make A List

My wedding cake was actually very good and I'm not a big fan of bakery cakes.

Overrated foods to me are:
1. Steak (maybe because I just don't like it?)
2. Whole lobsters (they taste just as good if they're cut up and they don't stare at you).
3. Doughnuts (I think they're worse than wedding cake)
4. Ice cream cones (too messy)
5. Chocolate (not a big fan of it)
6. Buffalo wings

potato skins - the description looks so yummy, but they never come to your table like that. I am always disappointed.

I got a little spoiled on wedding cake. My DIL is a Cordon Bleu (Paris) trained pastry chef. Her wedding cake was a layer of white cake with vanilla creme & fresh strawberries, then a layer of chocolate with chocolate mousse in between. The entire cake was covered with chocolate fudge and sugar coated fruits (large fruits - apples, oranges, etc). The cake stood about 4 and a half feet tall and was truly food of the Gods. Every wedding I've been to ever since - she's made the cake! Yummmmm........

I think steamed crab is over rated. You get so little meat and so much mess! Good thing I developed an allergy to shell fish!

I have to agree with lobster. I tried it once and just couldn't understand why everyone raves about it. I thought it was rather yucky.

Also don't understand the idea behind caviar. We sell it in the store I work at. I was cashing on NY's eve and a man bought 2 little jars of it and paid $300.00. I was thinking I could feed my family of 5 for 2 weeks with what he spent for 1 night!

I love everything on this thread except wedding cake and the bottoms of muffins. Actually, I can do without the whole muffin.

I could do without Mexican food. Fajitas. Doughnuts.

I like bagels, dole whip, mickey bars, lobster, crab, steak, wedding cake... Mmmm to all of those.

On the same wave lenght of doughnuts...Krispy Kreams. Ain't that great, if ya ask me. Any bakery really... they all taste the same... they all have that yucky glaze stuff over them. Gross-a-mundo!

Caviar, I have to agree. Blech!

lol

Bagles
Muffins
Dole Whips
Ice Cream Sundaes
Chocolate
Game meat
Lobster
Wedding cake (mine was fab though)
Mickey Bars

yep all over rated, lol

I will keep my steak though

what do I eat??

I'll add New York style pizza to the over rated list

Oh, God, don't get me started....

Tiramisu - the gold standard dessert of generic, uncreative "Continental" menus. If I ever hear another waiter telling me that their kitchen's version of this soggy, gummy junk is culinary heaven, I'm going to lose my dinner.

Steak Tartare - a gimmick invented by French cooks to trick ignorant North American tourists into eating rancid horsemeat.

Foie Gras - the French again, this time foisting poultry leftovers scraped off the barn floor onto people as some sort of rare delicacy.

snails- I'm not eating anything that springs back like gum, if you pull on it! If you have ever pulled them from the shells on the beach....(ugh):earseek:

New York *style* pizza is always over-rated. New York pizza, never ;)

Tiramisu
Blue cheese
Crab legs - too much work
Fajitas - too much work
Seared tuna steaks - too rare for my taste

Bagels....yum if they're from a good bagel place, lightly toasted

Wedding Cake....mine was SO moist, chocolate with chocolate mousse in between the layers, I was looking forward to eating it all night

Never had a Dole Whip....I can't find the stand that sells them

Mickey Bars....Good, but I prefer the Haggen Daaz bars from my grocer's freezer

Now this is also big flame territory.....I thought DCL's Chocolate Souffle at Palo was just 'okay'. :duck:

Technically, it's a beverage and not a food, but my vote goes to COFFEE. I just can't feel the love.

I think food is over rated in general. Ya eat it and pass it through.

Not sure that there is any food that I would DIE to have.

I have to laugh when I read other people thinking the same things I've always thought.

I totally agree that I just don't "get" lobster. I also was disapointed in the DCL Palo Chocolate Souffle and would rather have eaten our whole dinner elsewhere - most disapointing meal of our cruise IMO. I also agree to being surprised at what people are willing to spend on coffee - yuck!

I don't know if other state fairs have scones? I'm always amazed at the huge scone lines. It's a biscuit with a little extra sugar in it! I like scones, but I'd rather go home and make it and save my fair calories for something else.

Soda is my other one. I'll drink clear sodas if I have to, but cola is discusting IMO.

Jolie, I am with you on the coffee. I just don't get it. There are other ways to get caffeine. I'll up the ante and say beer. The appeal of beer is a mystery to me ( I hope DH doesn't read this thread!!) I'll duck the flames now.

:scared:

Ice Cream! Everybody I know thinks I'm a total wierdo, but I just don't get what all the fuss is about!

Also don't care for bagels or Dole Whips.
