We will be on the Vancouver to Hawaii cruise in April/May next year. We overnight in Kauai and I was wondering if anyone had experience (not exclusively for Hawaii) when the ship is in port overnight. Will we have access to get off/on the ship anytime we are in port, or does the gangway close sometime during the night? We aren't planning a late night, more of an early morning departure for a non-Disney activity. I just don't want to book something and then not be able to get off the ship in time to make it to the venue.

Thanks!! (or should I say Mahalo!)

Wellllll....before COVID, yes you could come and go as you wished anytime up until all aboard time. I'm going to guess it's still the same, but I don't know that DCL has had any overnights since the return to cruising.

Kauai is not a late night kinda island anyway.
LOL. NCLs Pride of America overnights in Kauai because of their night life. When we went there were still people staggering BACK on board at 8 am.

Thanks! I wasn't sure how it worked before, I probably can wait a month or so before booking our activity and then see if DCL has a policy in place or if the vendor has a good cancellation policy.

Oh, we're not late night people,😴 I want to get off by about 8:00am but if they close the gangway till 9:00am, then we won't be able to make the tour that we want to do.

We overnighted a few times over the years and I believe the gangway was open all the time. Since COVID no one knows yet.

I have no knowledge of the Hawaii cruises, but gangways can be briefly closed. On our Alaskan cruise they warned us it would be closed at various points during the day when they moved it due to the tides, so it would be shut for 15-30 minutes and not to worry that they'd leave without us, lol. I think you'd have no issues with an early excursion though! I'm sure there will be early Disney excursions as well.
