Ok, so I've been scouring the best schedules for my trip next October, and I have pretty much narrowed down my choice of flight to be with West Jet departing Edmonton on Friday, Oct 28 at 5:00 pm, arriving in Toronto around 11 pm.....I would then stay overnight at the Sheraton Gateway and catch my connecting flight to the USA the next morning around 10:00 am arriving in Orlando at 1:09 pm.....still giving us most of the afternoon to enjoy a park while being rested from staying the night at the Airport Hotel in Toronto.

If we do stay over night, do we pick up our bags once in Toronto, then recheck everything in the morning??? and clear customs in the AM?

One other quick unrelated to connection question....WWYD??? There is an opportunity to upgrade to club level for our stay for only $50 more for the night....however, we are arriving quite late (after 11 pm) on the Friday night, there will not be much time for anything but sleep....
I am wondering is the $50 upgrade to club for the breakfast offerings worth it in the AM to make our morning quick and efficient??? OR do you think 3 people would have enough time to wake up, eat in the terminal somewhere and make it to our flight by 10:30am.....Will it be more cost-effective to eat in the terminal for the 3 of us, or would you pay the upgrade to club just for breakfast and a quick getaway in the morning???
Thanks everyone!

over night or not you always collect your luggage in Toronto and clear US customs. If you can go through YUL you won't need to collect luggage but you will need to go through customs.

The Sheraton gate way is in the Westjet terminal so you literally go down and escalator to the checkin. You can go down the night before and print your boarding passes. You will need to clear customs with your luggage in tow the next morning. the hotel breakfast is crazy expensive but lots of options in the airport.

Now, what would I do...........

I would not pay for club room. You won't drop 50 dollars on breakfast. I would stay at the Sheraton gateway. It is so convenient and clean. Just pricey. But it gives you a travel break and a buffer for bad weather and a late arrival (you won't miss the flight). Since you are leaving Toronto to Orlando in the am it could be very busy. I'd allow a minimum of 2 hours to get into airport, through customs and security, and then grab a bite to eat. So for your 10:30 flight, be there no later than 8:30 and if you printed your boarding passes and luggage tags, you can go straight to customs. eat after you get rid of the luggage!

Bon voyage!

Great info! We'll have to keep this as an option for future trips since WJ's non-stop flights out of Edmonton are usually redeyes.

When we've had to stop to transfer flights at Toronto we did have to pick up baggage, go through customs then re-check bags. What a royal pain :sad2:
I try to avoid Toronto when flying Canadian airlines, which isn't too often!

Wish I knew about the Airport Sheraton when we overnighted. I stayed at the airport BW which was a long shuttle bus trip, I thought. And the rooms were too small.
