Overbooking ADR's without cancelling

You are right dreamergirl, that would have been rude. Sorry

I have no doubt that we will have a magical vacation, and I hope the very same is true for you and your DS. Wishing your DH could be there with you too....next trip, right?!

See you around the boards...."Oprah" ;)

Too cute. We plan on having the BEST trip! I think my kiddo deserves it most of all. And I am fortunate enough to be there to witness the magic unfold for him. Being a parent is WONDERFUL!
Take care and I hope we meet up again real soon.

Let's say u planned Monday as a "EPCOT" day and Tuesday as an "rest" day ... Well on Monday it is pouring rain and Tuesday they are calling for sunny skies. So you decide to stay in on Monday and maybe go to Disney Quest instead, holding off on EPCOT until Tuesday.

Good luck getting that Le Cellair ressie for Tuesday! Not gonna happen.

IMHO Disney should "hold" some spots for walk ups and or same day reservations. Sometimes you can't decide where you want to eat 6 months in advance.

WDWO

it just wouldnt work to hold any ressies until day of. They would be called upon the second they were open to take the spots..those that never made adrs or didnt know it would be frantically trying to vye for them.

I agree its a crap shoot with the ADR's but that's life. It's a crap shoot for me to rent a condo for a week after our disney trip on the gulf beach...could be a hurricane or red tide, but I just cant forsee it all.

On that note..if its raining on a day were going to epcot..i might not go to epcot that day (but still probably would) but I would fight the rain to get to my ADR because i'm so looking forward to each restaurant i chose and would hate to miss any of them. We will just doan our rain slickers and slosh thru epcot to Le Cellier :)

The thing is those that are sooooo very selfish and narcissistic that they think only of themselves and don't care about others feelings or ruining others plans might sit and eat a meal, but most of us refuse to do that...there are always counter meals available if the unforseen does happen! :)

I booked ADR's tonight for July trip. I already had some booked that I was planning to change. I am not one who books 2 or 3 for each meal. Before I had a chance to tell the CM that I needed to cancel one, she told me that I already had one booked and had to cancel it first. I hope Disney is catching on and will cancel these double bookings.

The exact same thing happened to me earlier this week. I called to change some of the ADRs for my Sept trip. I told the CM as soon as we started speaking what I was doing and she said the first thing she needed to do was cancel my old ones. I said shouldn't we make sure I can get the new ADRs first. She said that would probably be a good idea, but that Disney was cracking down on people making multiple ADRs and the computer may cancel the ADRs first. Thankfully I was able to get everything I requested and then we cancelled the old ones.

My mom is a very brittle diabetic, so if she's with me I may schedule TS for every meal in order to make me slow down and eat, and to make sure we don't have to look for a place, then wait an hour. She wouldn't be able to do it. There have been times when we had to cancel due to her blood sugar being too low and her needing to eat earlier than the ADR, but I always cancel as soon as I know she's not going to be able to wait until the ADR time. I make all of our ADRs usually when I book the trip and usually don't have a problem deciding where we are going to eat. Once we get down there the only way we miss one is if her blood sugar is messing up on her. Sorry, but I don't understand why it is so hard for some people to make their minds up and just show up when they are supposed to.

No biggie, to me. It's not as if people will not be able to eat-there are other options, such as CS or other TS restaurants.

As I said, I will cancel one or more the ADR's. That opens up a table.
Complain about the no-shows; those are the ones who hold up empty tables.
Give people 15 minutes. If they don't show (or call), they lose the table.

When we were there last Sept during the free dining so many places were not taking walkups (Mama Melrose, Hollywood & Vine, Brown Derby, Le Cellier, Crystal Palace, Liberty Tree Tavern, Sci Fi, Rose & Crown, and Chef's de France that I know of). With the free dining I had to wonder how many people had made multipe ADRs then not kept them. We saw so many people angry because they hadn't known to make ADRs and was upset they had the dining plan, but had no place to eat. Yes, Sept is always a slow month, but the TS places were packed with free diners. I can't help but believe it will be worse this year, especially if people are making multiple ADRs. Walk ups will again be turned away with no place to eat and restaraunts will have empty tables. Making multiple ADRs is just plain inconsiderate for both the restaraunts and for other people who get turned away or can't get the ADRs they want. FYI- I was also at WDW last month when walk ups were being turned away at Hollywood & Vine, Crystal Palace, Le Cellier, and Donald's Breakfastosaurus.

By the way if anyone wants them I cancelled tables for two for Sept 24th 6:55pm at Biergarten, Sept 25th at 7:00pm at Le Cellier, Sept 28th at 7:00pm at Planet Hollywoiod, and Sept 29th 11:30am at Liberty Tree Tavern. Good Luck!

Why not carry a snack for your mother so you do not have to worry about peaks and valleys in her blood sugar?

Just got off the phone with Audrey R. a CM with dining reservations. She confirmed that multiple ADR's within a 2 hour period would be canceled at there discretion. She said some slip through but they are being canceled, and people are being rudely awakened when they go to the ADR they wanted only to find it was canceled and they had missed thier other one LOL!

The reason this came up is that my kids have decided (age 22 and 10..just so you know im not sending little kids alone) want to eat at 50's prime time for the sole purpose of the s'mores, and DH wants to eat at MMelroses...so we have 2 adrs for the same time. She had to make a note and we HAD (AS IN FORCED) TO MAKE them for tables of 2...or we would have one cancelled. (we only have 4 on dining plan) She said if people on dining plans want to dine with people not on plan than they need to notate it or not worry about if they only have one ADR in an alloted time frame. Whew, looks like WDW is cracking down!

FYI

I'm so glad to hear this. If it continues to be a problem for them, I could see Disney starting to get credit card #'s for all reservations and charging a no-charge fee.

I'm glad to hear that steps are being taken to help with this problem. My guess is that with more people than ever on the dining program, something had to be done about people that make 2-3 dinner ADR's.
