I've read about people buying those over the door shoe organizers to keep their bathrooms/staterooms tidy. Since my nephew and I have a category 11 with one bathroom, I'm thinking this may be a good idea. I've looked on ebay and found several options and several more options at other stores online. Besides my questions below, any other comments/suggestions would be helpful.

Did you bring one on your cruise?

Did you find it helped keep things tidy?

How many pockets?

Was it plastic or cloth?

Where did you buy it?

How much did it cost?

Did you bring one on your cruise? YES

Did you find it helped keep things tidy? YES YES YES (with feeling)

How many pockets? 24

Was it plastic or cloth? plastic

Where did you buy it? either Target or Wal-mart

How much did it cost? About $7?

We've used it on 2 cruises and it will go with us on the 3rd - folds nicely back into the bag. Get this, I never thought about using it for shoes! LOL

We used it for sunscreen, medicines (little kids, I always carried Motrin + various kid stuff), toothpaste, deodorant, etc. Sunglasses work well too!

We took 2 on our cruise this summer and used both. I think they both had 24 pockets, one was plastic and one was cloth. We put the plastic one behind the bathroom door with all the shower supplies, brushes, and various drippy counter-clutter items. We kept the cloth one on the outside of the other half-bath and used it for shoes, tip money envelopes, and items like sunglasses. My kids liked them so much they each took one when we got home so I had to buy 2 more for our cruise this month. ;) Last time I got them on ebay but this time I found some at Target that I liked and they were cheaper because I didn't pay shipping and handling! :D

Did not take one on my first cruise Cat 11, with three people. Desk area was alway a mess. Keep all bathroom accessories under the sink on the floor in a ziploc bag.

This cruise there will be 4 in a cat 10. I will be buying the shoe holder this time. Along with the 3M Command Hooks to hang our lanyards on. I don't know how many times we couldn't find our lanyards.

Thanks! For the quick replies. I'll have to check out Wal-Mart & Target. Seems like it'd be cheaper than anything I've found online!

Probably one of the best tips on this board is that shoe organizer.. We will not go on a cruise without one!!!

The bathrooms have about enough room for about 3 bottles of shampoo and that is when you turn sideways

We're just back from the Halloween Magic- I bought mine from the dollar store- it had ~ 15 pockets. I hung it on the sliding closet doors right across from the bathroom- It held both bathroom supplies- toothpaste, deodorant etc but we also put our sunscreen etc in them. Worked great-

Did we use one - absolutely.
We bought it at the dollar store for - you guessed it $1.00. It has 12 pockets and is plastic. Not really substantial but for $1.00 it can't be beat and it worked for shampoo, contact solution, medicines, etc.

We also got a set of suction cup hooks 4/$1.00. They're the kind you put on the wall and pull the hook down to create the suction so they don't leave a mark. We put one in the bathroom over the commode for the shoe hanger and one on the mirror near the door for the lanyards, and one on the closet wall for purses, one somewhere else for DH's hat...you get the picture.

I think next time I'm taking one of the Walmart ones for shoes since they're a more substantial. I think I saw them for $6.99 or so.

Check your local Big Lots. I bought ours there for $4.99

This was the absolute best tip I received for our first cruise and though everyone thought I was nuts, I bought and brought it. Well, the fam was pretty glad to have it to put all their stuff in. I also bought the $5 Wallmart one. I definitely would go with the cheapo plastic rather than a fabric one. Having clear pockets was the beauty of it all.

Ok, I'm the weird one who has a list of what goes in each pocket. I like to be prepared!!!

We keep ours stocked year round for traveling. I have velcro at the top of most of the pockets to keep things in place. I just roll it up and put it in a big plastic bag. Ok, it is my DCL plastic bag that came from my souveniors from the ship store.

It fits nicely in a medium suitcase. It saves a lot of unpacking/packing time of all those little things.

The list is so that I don't forget to pack little things like lanyards, spot removers, stuff you might not normally think to pack.

Just a word of warning. We took one with the metal hooks on RCCL's Voyager It wouldn't fit on the closet door (too wide) and the hooks couldn't fit between the bathroom door and the doorjam (couldn't shut the door). Maybe DCL doors are different. I think suction cup hooks would have done the job, but we didn't have any. The shoe holder stayed in the suitcase. Lesson learned, have a back up plan.

We had used 3 on our last cruise and had no problem mounting them. One went on the bathroom door and the others were hung on the painting over the bed. We bought them for a buck each!

We used them on our last cruise and they really helped keep everything neat and easy to find! Without them, I'm always looking for things! They're also great for hotel stays! Rita and I had one in our room, and Steve and the boys had one in theirs. I was able to get a Wishes cruise for Rita's sister and her family. They're going to Disney Thanksgiving week.

??? Duct tape ??? Could you use duct tape to hang it. I remember reading in the "All the best tips..." thread that duct tape is a must have.

We love ours and plan on using it again. We got it from Walmart for less than $6. We also took it on vacation with us to the hotel. HOWEVER -- my husband forgot to take the hooks off the door at the hotel. After I'm frantically looking for them for the next trip, he finally 'fesses up and tells me! We now have 2 holders and no hooks! Not sure what happened to the other ones. Maybe he left those too and didn't tell??? Well, now I'm trying to think of another way to hook them on the door w/o having to buy another shoe holder. I figured even if I do have to get another one it's worth it to save space and clutter!

Make sure you remember to take the hooks off the door!!!

OK, have to go against the tide here...We bought one, brought it but never used it. We have a big toiletry bag from Eddie Bauer which holds most of our things. We leave the toothbruses and toothpaste in a cup on the sink and our own shampoo in the tub. Things always stay nice and neat, the room stewards always like us. ;)
I must be weird because I also prefer the single bath (see tag) and love being near the laundry, lol! :confused3 Everyone develops their own preferences I guess...
