I need one as I have NO counter space. But, my vent hood(that isn't vented outdoors) is wired into the house and not on a separate circuit. The boxes seem to all say that a microwave has to be on its own circuit.

Does anyone know if this is true? I dont' want to cause problems, but I would REALLY like to have some counter space again!!

TIA

If it's on a circuit with the fridge or other high current device, there could be a problem (tripped breakers) is they both kick on at the same time. If the particular circuit only runs lights or occasionally used devices, you should be OK.

Try it. If the circuit breakers trip, you'll need to have an electrician run another line.

I installed one and it doesn't have it's own dedicated circuit. Just punched a hole through one of the cabinets and plugged it in like a regular micro. It's not on the same plug the fridge is in, but it I think it's on the same circuit as the fridge.

You should be fine unless it's one of those ka-billion watt, fission-carbonizer, reverse-modulation, convection oven type things.

DH did ours a few years ago. Also for space reasons. I love it.

He removed the hood vent (fan & light) & used those wires, but had to install an outlet first in the cabinet above. I just checked our circuit breaker plan, and the microwave is still on the same circuit breaker that the hood vent had been on.

There are also 4 light switches on that circuit breaker (kitchen, dining room, 1/2 bath, & outside back door light).

Don't know if its right. But its been like that with no problems for a few years.

On the other hand, this condo built in 1987 has the STUPIDEST wiring plan we've ever seen. I have one circuit that has the spare bedroom A/C outlet, the dining room A/C outlet, & some kitchen outlets. So, basically, turn on 2 a/c's & try to make toast & you trip the circuit. One A/c really should be moved to another circuit.
