We just returned from WDW and noticed multiple examples of urban youths (of all races) wearing over-sized plain white tee-shirts.

Are these a new "color" for gang activity?

If it is I guess I'm in trouble since I always wear over-sized shirts and a few in my collection are white.

Could you give your definition of "urban youth"?

Maybe they just wanted to be comfortable with a loose fitting, sun reflecting shirt.

I don't know about gang affiliation, but recently a young man here in Cincinnati had his car searched following a traffic stop. His dad complained about the search and the cops noted that he fit their profile for a drug dealer. An oversized white t-shirt was one of the items the cops listed as part of this profile.

Yes, it is a gang symbol, originally. I'm in middle school and it's everywhere. It's mostly just a trend now, though. Still, anyone wearing them at my school will be suspended. The principal says it's because they are meant as undershirts, but they've been fine for years, until they were a gang symbol.

How do you know they were "urban youth"?

Boys are wearing oversized clothes now. My 12 year old son would die if I tried to get him to wear a "normal" tee shirt.

My cousin's sons have been doing it some time now and they live in SC(in the country).

I would guess the kids you saw were wearing white because it's so darn hot in Orlando.

Maybe they were part of a big group and had to wear the same color???

So, let me get this straight.... It's now unsafe to wear baggy white shirts? LMAO that's just so............... rediculous!

I guess I'm glad I don't wear white shirts...

If it is, it sure beats some other looks, maybe the next symbol will be actually having their pants up to their waist.

I've never heard of this as being gang related, but its always something... so you have to stay current. Many times its a fashion trend and unfortunately its fashionable to be a "thug" by many kids.

Dressing like you are a thug is also protection for yourself. If they think you belong to a gang, you are less likely to be messed with.
Being on friendly terms with a strong gang offers protection too.

Oops, just noticed the pic in my profile.

Maybe I'm a gang member. Not so much of an urban youth anymore, though.

Sure, now we know the real story. ;)

Just be careful with those DIS lime green items (worn with pants pulled up to the waist). Maybe some gang will adopt lime green.

I may be wrong, but I think the oversized shirts OP is talking about are the ridiculously GIANT ones....Like a size XXXL on a 14 year old boy that weighs 140 lbs. I tend to see them a lot, paired with baggy jeans securly fastened with a belt (completely with HUGE shiney belt, bearing the young mans nickname) around the KNEES.....

These boys look like they are wearing dresses....it's pretty silly, actually...I remember this being the style in the 90s--in fact...my brother had this kid who kept bothering him in junior high. He was infront of my house saying nasty things to my brother, and my father chased him away. As he was running, his humungous jeans fell down-showing off his tighty whiteys, and causing him to trip over his own pants :teeth:

LOLOLOLOLOLOL! :teeth:

If you think the white is bad, there is a school system in our area that has banned pink shirts because in their town it is a gang symbol. This is an affluent college town. Can you see some tough gang kids wearing their pink t-shirts??

lol! Maybe the next thing will be pink t-shirts with flowers on them.

Back to the OP, this is a gang symbol, I think. For those of you who are confused, she is not just talking about a roomy white t-shirt. She is talking about ridiculously huge ones, like down to the knees and about 10 sizes too big.

Urban Youth = wanna be Eminems, Jay-Z's and other gangsta rappers. I think for most of the kids, it's just a fashion statement. If you can call that fashion.

I think the concern is that baggy clothing like this would make it easy for teenagers to conceal weapons, drugs, etc. into school. I know a lot of schools around here have made it a rule that long shirts should be tucked in. ;)
