Has anyone ever run into an overbooking situation at Fort Wilderness? I was wondering since we are going for New Years if that a problem.

I dont think that will be a problem this year, we were there Oct-Nov for 13 days and after Haloween there were many, many sites open. I have never heard of a complaint of anybody not being gave a site due to overbooking at FW.

All sites are aside 5 days out so over booking in most cases is not problem

That's a difficult question to answer. I would guess it may have happened at one time or another since 1971, but unless you were at check-in when that "one too many" family arrived, you'd never know. I would think that if it did happen, Disney would graciously offer the family a room in one of the other resorts and give them some other compensations for their inconvenience. My only basis for stating that is...when we were evacuated from FtW in 2001 due to a tropical storm, they put us up at the Riverside Resort and gave us a voucher for $50 per person for meals at the food court.

From time to time I see motor homes in the 2000 loop and wonder why. My curiosity got the best of me one trip and I went to the front desk to ask why, and if we could book a partial hook up site for our 32' mh. Manager Jason told me that you really should not do that as those sites aren't set up for MH's. (Duh, if that's so, why do they have 30amp & 50amp service? They are just lacking sewer hook up's.) He would not give me a straight answer as to why you see MH's there - but just skirted the issue. One of these days I might just get brassy enough to book a partial hook-up site and hope for the best. I don't think most of the CM's at the front desk know the difference anymore. If we just go for a 3 day weekend, we can get by without sewer and just dump our tanks when we get home - where we have a sewer connection for the MH.

Yep, I've seen MHs in 2000 also. Yeah, book online, book a partial, park in overflow, and go inside to check in. Some of the driveways are pretty short, so your back wheels will definitely have to go on the coquina.

Oh, as to overbooking, I think Donnie mentioned in another thread that last Thanksgiving they overbooked some and those that didn't have their confirmation sheets in hand were not treated well.

1) Pretty accurate.
2) One would surprised at the lack of Fort info held by many FW CM's.
3) One only learns from other CM's, as there are no training classes.
4) As far as overbooking
. . . it is not done on purpose
. . . frequently, ressie CM's don't know site differences
. . . sometimes, FW CM's don't know site differences
. . . but, the quantity of sites vs quantity of campers is not oversold
. . . FW is not like other resorts where guests can be moved easily

Carol is correct. When we arrived last year at Thanksgiving there were somewhere around 6 campers inside the Outpost Gate that had their stabalizers down and slides out. There were some upset people yelling that they had ressies and why wasn't their site ready.

I think AuburnJen could answer this best though because IIRC she spent the night in overflow one night because they messed up her ressie. Then after she got set up security had the nerve to bang on the door to tell her she wasn't allowed in the overflow overnight lol.

When we checked in September for an extended stay, they wanted to put us in the 1900 loop. We had a reservation for a full hookup site but did not want to be put in the 1900. I had already driven around the full hookup sites in my vehicle so I knew that there were plenty of sites available in the 1700 loop as well as 1600 and 1800. There was no way I was going to be put in the 1900 again this year. After trying to discuss my site preferences with the CM at check-in (who did not speak English very well), she then placed me in the 2000 loop. I had already explained to her numerous times that I had a MH and needed full hookup, as reserved. She had not a clue about the difference between the 2000 loop and the 1600-1900 loops. Finally had to get a Manager to get my site. What was really ridiculous was that the Fort was very empty in early September and it was still a PITA to check-in.

We witnessed an issue a couple years ago where someone stopped in to see if there were any sites available. They were told there was one night, so they went to their site, setup and then just stayed there for 3. They knew Disney wouldn't tow their motorhome so they didn't really care. I chatted briefly with them as they were in the site next to us and they just figured someone else would cancel and it would all work out.
