As some of you are aware, on Nov. 7th I had a repair guy come (under the home warranty) to look at our 31 year old stainless steel oven.
They found a broken thermostat, and a handle issue. (Basically the oven got so hot, the handle broke off)
First they tried to order a part.. the day before Thanksgiving they tell me that the parts are now obselete, and can't replace either.
They offered us $200 (a pitiful price) towards a new oven.
We were told that was their maximum offer, and take it or leave it. We were not happy.. since a stainless wall oven runs about $1200 (lower end).
My DH has been writing letters after letters to the company regarding this... he wound up writing letters all the way up to the president of the company regarding this.
It has been since Nov. 7th, since our oven worked properly... actually it was the last week of October when the handle burned off.
So, in no uncertain terms, DH asked for a better offer regarding this since the contract stipulates a replacement or "equal value". $200 is not equal value.
So, just yesterday, we were offered a new in wall oven, but its not stainless. (BLACK) It would be free, and installation would be free as well. They don't make stainless anymore in this size (smaller size in wall, compared to current ones). We do have a black dishwasher, so it woudln't be that bad... but I love my stainless wall oven!
If we asked for stainless, they could possibly rescind the offer. I could ask for the cash equivalent, and pay cash for the difference..but since the new stainless are 40 inches (mine is 28), that would be new cabinetry.. (a whole new kitchen project I don't really want to do right now!!)
So, should I go with the black FREE one? (Its a GE Model JGRp17BEWBB). Right now I have a black dishwasher (came with the house), a stainless/black burners in the counters (came with the house), the stainless wall oven (original as well), and our tan fridge. (yes, it really doen'st match, we are going to get a new fridge when the fridge dies..don't want to buy a new one until we have to)
If we say yes, it will come between Christmas and New Years...
