Outta points... where to stay on weekend nights?

I have booked our family of 4 on a cruise with points (yes, I can hear the groans), and will also have enough left for 3 weekday nights at the Beach Club (home resort). I will be accomodating 6, DH and myself, the 2 kids and in-laws. I need to come up with a plan for the Fri & Sat high point nights which are pre-cruise. I do not want to rent points to cover those days at 60points a day, that is way too much IMHO.

If we stay near the cruiseship terminal, I have a good option, but would ideally like to stay near Disneyworld or onsite at Universal. Since I know that going the hotel-route, I will need to book two rooms (and I am footing the bill) it might add up quickly. I don't know if I can swing the price of the Universal Hotels, but have heard that there might be deals to be had at the Swan or Dolphin.

So, out of the Swan or Dolphin, would one of these would be closest to the Beach Club or Boardwalk?

Are there other NICE timeshares that I might be able to rent more cheaply for only 2 nights? Having a 2 bdr might be more convenient, but I'm not willing to sacrifice quality.

Thanks!

The Swan and Dolphin are excellent options. They are both close to BWV and BCV. Swan is a little closer to BWV and Dolphin a little closer to BCV, but the difference is just a few steps.

I would definitely give them a try. And they have the most comfortable beds on property!

There are always Orlando hotel deals on Travelzoo - you may want to subscribe to their weekly top 20. We've gotten lost of great weekend deals using their offers.

We just stayed at the Hilton Grand Vacations Club on International Drive (near Dixie Stampede) for $116/night because we didn't have enough points for more than a few nights at SSR. It was a very nice resort and had almost all the amenities of DVC. Granted, it's definitely not DVC, but we would not hesistate to stay there again if we needed to conserve points. We had a one bedroom which slept four, but I know they also have two bedrooms and studios. We had a complete kitchen, screened balcony, washer/dryer, spa tub, free internet, etc. The traffic in the area can be a pain, but for a couple nights, it's okay.

Really close to WDW.....

I recommend the Buena Vista Suites (a Disney Good Neighbour Hotel). The rooms (2 rooms do sleep 6) and include a FULL buffet breakfast.

Free shuttle to WDW too!

I'd try Hotwire or Priceline name your own price, stay near Universal one night and Coco beach on the night before cruise. That way you don't have to travel on the cruise day and you can even see the ship comes in the port.
