Outsourcing as a "solution".

One of the policies of the Bush administration, when it came to planning the rebuilding of Iraq, was not to permit countries who did not participate in the liberation to secure contracts which would be paid for with U.S. Taxpayer money. The policy in effect was; we will not outsource American jobs paid for by American taxpayers. With regard to the importation of Canadian drugs, again this is a form of outsourcing. Offering contracts to those NOT a part of the coalition to rebuild Iraq seems to be one of the approaches the Kerry camp would like to take. They have also made it clear that they wish to import drugs for Canada. I guess some outsourcing is fine with them. Any opinions?

Dawn as usual hits the nail on the head. Kerry says we've done nothing right in Iraq, but wants to bring "the world' into the loop there, which -- if it ever happened, which is arguable right off the bat -- would definitely involve giving countries like France and Germany full access to the redevelopment market there, in return for whatever form of extremely limited poliical support they might provide.

As for the drugs from Canada, as Dawn as already pointed out, the left just doesn't get it. The ONLY reason drugs are "cheaper" in Canda is because that country lets everyone else eat all the development costs (there is no such thing as pharmaceutical R&D in Canada; in fact, historically the U.S. pharmaceutical industry has created over HALF of the major new drugs in the world). Bottom line: if everyone here tried to buy their drugs from outside our borders, the lack of ROI here will drive prices in Canda (and everyplace else) up faster than you can say "economics 101."

I have absolutely no problem with outsourcing jobs in Iraq or Canadian drugs, actually.

Considering how many of our US and coalition workers are being kidnapped and beheaded simply for being there and trying to rebuild, I say let's spread that risk around. If France wants to go in and bid on a construction job, let them. If a few of their folks get kidnapped or threatened while on the job, what better way to show them why going to war was important in the first place. Holding back and allowing only coalition forces to bid only reinforces the popular European thought that the US went to war for money.

As for Canadian drugs, maybe its time that the prices DO get driven up in Canada. Why should the US have to pay for all the R&D, thereby making drugs more expensive here than anywhere else? If the US pharmeceutical companies could get past their own R&D egos and share their discoveries (and the costs of those discoveries) with other countries, it would end up with a fairer market across the board.
