whenever i open my OE, it tells me

"Would you like to go offline?
No connection to the Internet is currently avaliable. To view Internet content that has been saved on your computer, click Work Offline.
Click Try Again to connect"

then i have to click Try Again, and then it tells me

"Some errors occured while processing the requested tasks. Please review the list of errors below for more details."

then i have to click Hide

then to get any new mail, i have to hit Send/Recieve.

this is kind of ridiculous because i am permanently conencted to the network. i've had these errors since i got back to school last month. is there anything i can do to fix this?

thanks so much.
:D

I don't know the answer but I'll bump it for you. Does your college have a help desk?

I've been getting that alot too.

I have to turn off my ZoneAlarm to get my internet and email to work. Anyone have any idea why? Once I turn it off I connect ok Hes. Do you have ZoneAlarm too?

If you click on the File menu, is Work Offline already checked?

Also if you go to Tools and then Options, (I can't remember the tab here) Look around. There should be a checkbox that says Disconnect after sending and receiving.

Check those out and let me know.

Luis, neither one was checked. everything seems to be in order. it worked last year fine, then i took it home for the summer and now it's all messed up. :(

Maybe your connection properties got changed. In OE, go to the TOOLS menu & select ACCOUNTS. Change to the MAIL tab & click the PROPERTIES button. Switch to the CONNECTION tab. Is the "Always connect to this account using" option checked? If so, uncheck it. That should make it look for the network connection first - I hope!

If not, get back to us with what the list of errors is. (Instead of clicking HIDE, select DETAILS.)

What version of Outlook Express are you using?

Help --> about Outlook Express (in case you didn't know how to already)

Thank you SO MUCH, Deb!! That was the problem! Thanks for all your help too Luis. you guys are the best.
:D :D:D

Some more Ideas in case it comes up. Or if this doesn't work for other people:

Click on Start>Settings>ControlPanel>InternetOptions>Connections>LanSettings. Select "Automatically Detect Settings" and click on OK.

Now start Internet Explorer. Once it's started and has loaded your home page, close Internet Explorer. Now go back to that same auto setting and remove the check mark and click on OK

There is also one more trick but I wouldn't recommend it unless you feel comfortable working on your computer (it involves going into the registry)
