I'm really confused here. Granted it doesn't take much to confuse me but anyhow :teeth:

I can get connected to the internet (obviously since I am able to post) but when I open Outlook Express to open my mail I get "failed" and then and error. I haven't been able to open my mail all day. :(

So I called my ISP's tech support number to see if they could help me. They told me the problem was with the server and to try to open my email in half an hour. I told them, for the second time, it has been like this all day and they said to try tomorrow then.

Doesn't ISP stand for Internet Service Provider? And if it's a server problem, not Outlook because I specifically asked, then why are they not able to say something other than try later oops, try tomorrow?

I'm really confused. Am I just without until email until "the Server" does what it needs to do? Who is "the Server"?

It reminds me of the Wizard of Oz - "Pay not attention to that man behind the curtain!". :teeth:

Yep. There are times that I'm unable to access my ISP's email (Outlook).....which is why I also have a hotmail account....

sometimes I can't get into my hotmail email area.....which is why I have a Yahoo account.......

sometimes I can't get into all three.

Guess that's the way of the internet, eh? Good luck. I hope you get your Outlook access back soon. :)

Belle - the "server" is like the post office. It is where your mail is stored to and from the network. Outlook express is the mail box, into which your mail is delivered and out of which it is sent. If the mail servers are down, then you won't get anything except an error. Your ISP techs may not know why the servers have gone down or they may know that but not know how long it will take to restore the service. Kepp in mind that you are only one of their users, and you may have been the lucky one thousanth caller to Mr. Techy. I have had it happen myself, which is why I tend to use several email addesses. Yahoo seems to be the most reliable, but I don't use Outlook express with it, I save OE for my comcast mail.

Just keep trying, there is nothing worse than not being able to talk with the world, is there?

where are you located? and what interet provider do you have??

HauntedMansionGeek - so I guess I'd better get a few more email accounts set up. I still can't get into mine. It's maddening because I have a friend in PA who I'm sure emailed me and now I'm looking like a snob for not answering her back.

mickeyfan1 - thanks for the analogy. I understand it better now. Again, I'd better get some alternate emails set up. As if I didn't have 100 other things to do tonight

Lisa L from MI - I'm in Indiana, in a real small town near Elkhart. The only ISP we can get here is BrightNet. Well, that's not entirely true - BrightNet is the only ISP with a local number. AOL, MSN, EarthLink ... there aren't any local access numbers here. That's how small of town I live in!

Thanks everybody:wave:

this may sound stupid but can you get into email from isp's website? i can access my mail from link on my isp's home page. granted it's not pretty but at least i can see what i have and reply/email through it.
