Outer Banks North Carolina

We are thinking of taking a trip to the Outer Banks NC early August. We love history and lighthouses. Any suggestions on where to stay? Any information or insight would be most appreciated. thanks

My father was raised in the area, but we mostly only know about Ocracoke. I am trying to find a thread that I posted a lot of info about it on the dis, but can't seem to come up with it right now. I will keep looking.

Anyway we like Ocracoke, if you have any questions about it I can try to help. The light house there is small, but nice. On 4th of July they will let you go in it, but it isn't that big of a thrill and super hot!
