I am trying to furnish a new brick patio and an existing deck with a fairly large amount of furniture...I don't want to spend a ton of money on something that isn't going to hold up, SO do you have outdoor seating that you really love and that has stood the test of time? Please tell me where you go to buy quality pieces! I know I will be replacing faded cushions no matter what, but surely there has to be furniture that will hang around for 5 or more years, right?

We bought a metal patio set a few years back...actually it's probably about 10-12 years now that I think of it, which has held up well, but it wasn't cheap.

I have known a few people who have purchased the wicker furniture made of resin and have no complaints. Also the teak seems to hold up OK.

Furnishing a patio or deck isn't cheap though.

We have a conversation set from Target called Madaga. It is a black wicker set. We have the three cushion sofa, table and two large armchairs. It is very comfortable and has held up well. We bought it about five years ago. This is the first year I replaced the sofa cushions....still using the armchair cushions.

Hope this helps!

Our table, 6 chairs, umbrella, & 2 rockers came from Target.

The frames are metal. The table has a tile inlay top, & the backs & seats of the chairs & rockers are some kind of thick, woven material. The umbrella is a thick canvas.

So far, it's all held up well, but we just purchased everything last summer. However, it lasted well throughout the winter.

I also ordered a cute metal table w/ a mosaic top from Amazon that goes between the rockers.

If you want it to last forever then I would go with wrought iron. We have pieces that are about 20 years old and some newer ones too and they all look great. Every few years I do have to repaint them but once I do they look brand new all over again. I would spend the extra money and get it.

A few years ago I bought a lounge chair from target that was not to expensive but its a thinner wrought iron and has plastic arm rests. It has held up OK, but I wish I had paid a little more for the other just because of the arm rests.

I have a quick dry fabric, aluminum set with tiles in the tables. I think we got it at Sears last year online? We bought 1 6-seat table, 1 4-seat table, bistro set, glider rocker, and 2 lounge chairs with a table in the middle. I love it.

I would not get cushioned chairs unless they were in a screened in deck/porch. Or unless you are in a dryish climate. Where I am at now, too wet every morning with dew. Had to get rid of the cushioned set.

Do not get steel because steel rusts.

Wrought iron will not break on a deck even if it is blown over.

We re-did our back deck just over a year ago and bought all new furniture for it last summer. I got a set at Menards, 2 chairs and love seat. It also had an optional coffee-type table, but it didn't fit in the space so I didn't get it. We did get a large table and 6 chairs for eating. The chairs and love seat have thick comfy cushions.

I think they are wrought iron frames.

What I did to protect them is invest in furniture covers, the thick green waterproof canvas ones like for grills and etc...

They were out all last summer, and covered when not in use and they looked brand new when we got them out for this summer. I also bought a deck box with lid and seating that we can store the covers in when we aren't using them. Keeps them handy until we need them again to cover everything up.

The covers do not have tie-downs, so I plan to add that this year for those windy days so they don't blow away. Figured I can just tie them to the legs of the furniture.

Have you tried Craigslist? I live in a very transient city and people move out every day and are selling their new or like new furniture.

I got a great set from a former model home that was worth 4 times the price I paid for it.

I have done that before....the thing you have to keep in mind is transporting it. :thumbsup2

So true. I have a service that delivers for me and does a great job. Got them from CL also, under "services".

I have a 'wicker' set that has held up pretty well. I do put it in the garage for the winter right. I also put the cushions in a deck box at night. I have a wrought iron table and chairs..that stays out all winter and is in great shape.

We have polywood furniture. We got the first pieces 4 years ago and just added to our set this spring. You can't tell the new pieces from the old pieces, they all look brand new.

Polywood is a brand, I'm not sure of the actual brand of ours, we got it an Amish furniture shop in Lancaster Pa area.

Mine (dining table and chairs, sofa, arm chairs, coffee and side tables) is from Restoration Hardware with a painted metal finish. It wasn't inexpensive, but it's held up very well so far. I keep them covered when not in use, and the smaller pieces (coffee table and end tables, and cushions) get moved into storage in the garage in the winter. In the spring, I remove and wash the cushion covers as needed, hose down the furniture, and then gently scrub it with a soft brush and soapy water. I've been really happy with how the cushion covers have held up and washed, mine have had everything from a red wine spill to squirrel pee on them and you wouldn't know it. Everything is 3 years old now and looks brand new, and the cushions are really comfy!

I also like that they have a lifetime warranty against defects and a very long (I want to say 10 or 15 year?) warranty on the finish cracking or peeling.

We have a teak set. I love how it looks, but the downside is you have to re-do it every year or so or else it turns grey.
