Buy a travel card - you can hop off and on all trains, tubes & buses within London after 9.30am. If you're doing the eye, why not buy a combined eye & riverboat ticket? Check out www.destinationcoupons.com for some discounts. London is very diverse depending on your interests. Museums including Natural History, V&A, Science, Imperial War etc. THere are statues & monuments, art galleries, classic tourist sites like Buck House, changing of the guard, Madame TUssauds, London DUngeons, London Zoo etc. I'm sure there will be more you want to than you have time for, but either way, have a great time!

We live spitting distance to where you are staying in Wandsworth, there is no tube line it is the overland line (Wandsworth Town) which goes to Clapham Junction (one stop, 3 mins or 12 mins to Waterloo). As they say from Clapham Junction the London train/tube network is at your feet!!! There is a Macdonalds just by the Holiday Inn where you are and if you walk to Wandsworth Bridge (you are just by it) there is a bus stop with lots of buses going into Fulham, Chelsea, etc. There is an excellent pub called The Ship which has a great restaurant and the meat is provided by their own farm in Surrey.

If you cross the road (it is a major road going to the wandsworth bridge roundabout) to the station you will find Old York Road where there is a sister pub with again excellent restaurant called The Alma and along that quiet road are a number of great places to eat, it has a good buzz about it.

We have lived in the area for 17 years, and you will be staying on the river. My advice to you is dont get too excited about Outback..... It isnt very good, pretty soulless, and the food is way below TGI Fridays' standard. We went when it first opened a couple of years ago, it was okay but nothing special. We hadnt been since so returned (after reading how great it is in the states on this board) and DH said the burger was ok, we had the bloomin' onion, chicken wings and caesar salad. It was not good, we would not go back. It was like stepping back a decade when we english tried to cook and produce american food. (I know its a aussie chain but its basically american food!)

The three times we ate here (they were Sundays) the place was nearly empty. I am sorry to be so negative but I wouldnt eat here if I was offered a free meal. There are lots of great restaurants around but not this particular branch of this restaurant.

If you would like any further infor I would be delighted to answer any other questions. Please forgive me for the negative tone about the restaurant but within minutes of where you are staying are some really fun and good places to eat.

We enjoyed the Outback in Birmingham very much :) In fact, we had a better meal there than the one we had in Sarasota (Florida).

Paul,

To get to the eye, you must take the overland train (3 min walk from your hotel) from wandsworth town to waterloo (approx 8 mins) and then its a short walk to the eye. When you are taking the overland train do not get out at wandsworth road station, its an easy mistake to make especially at the end of a long day! Its two stops away!!

Ignore my ideas for the two pubs, I wasnt thinking children, they are good but you want to go to the road where the station is,you will see Homebase that is the beginning of Old York Road, there is a pizza express (always fun and busy), a thai, a chinese, a fish and chip restaurant - sit down casual called 'Bradys' v popular locally on friday nights with families, pine tables and treacle tart etc!, konnigans which serves everything, really nice. Its not a long road so best to have a wander and see what you feel like. Old York Road is great and has a real buzz at weekends. Also there is a macdonalds next door to the holiday inn. The Outback is set in a newish development with other restaurants which are not busy so make sure that you go over to Old York Road. My daugher is 12 and loves Pizza Express, that is one of her favs.

Its so difficult to describe it all and I apologise for going on and on.. its just rather nice that a fellow diser and family are coming to my neck of the woods!! If you want more infor and any questions, do PM me, so I dont have to bore the rest of the board with my comments!!!

Throw those questions at me!!

Paul,

A thought when you go to Tate Modern, there is the 'wobbly' bridge (when it first opened it did wobble and they had to shut it!!) its worth walking across it because straight infront of you is the nearly cleaned, sparkling St Pauls cathedral which is a definite photo opportunity. Near the Tate is the Globe Theatre which is worth pointing out. A different route back having arrived by overland train is to take the number 11 bus from St Pauls, its goes through the westend, Victoria, the Kings Road and several landmarks and goes to Fulham where you get off in Harwood Road and take a number 28 or 295 back to your hotel.
