Out of State Disneyland Trip Planning Thread

I’m going to drop it after this because I’m hoping we’ll get information today that makes this whole conversation moot, but Disney has not changed it on their reservation system yet. You still have to attest to being a CA resident as of now. As of now, there have been no changes for after June 15th. That doesn’t mean it won’t be changing, even as soon as today, but technically the person broke both a state rule & board rule and I was gently trying to let them know.
DisneyJamiecCA. I want you to know I DO appreciate your input.

I did not deliberately violate any rules, but there have been a lot of rumors flying around and I thought I knew what was happening. I was aware that Disney was turning away out of state guests, at the gate, EVEN if they had tickets AND park reservations. I just thought they had already changed that as of June 15th. But, apparently they hadn't.

Now, today, California seems to be removing almost all restrictions as of June 15th. I still don't know what Disney is planning, but I am being more hopeful.

One trouble, for people who are out of state, is that with the current park reservation system, even when or if they open on, say, June 15th, there are essentially NO park entry reservations available for June or July. So people who want to go back to Disney will need to start planning even farther out.

I really am seriously concerned that, because of the Park Entry Reservation system, a quick, relatively unplanned trip to Disneyland is going to become a thing of the past, at least during most of the year.

I understand the frustration, trust me! And believe it or not, even those of us pointing it out actually DO want everybody to be able to come. I just didn't want to anybody to get in trouble for unknowingly violating a board rule. Even as a self declared Disneyland expert, I find these boards to be a wealth of information. How people do it with Disney is between them & Disney and I have absolutely zero skin in that game.

I do hope for all the OOS people, Disney announces their plans soon. I agree, it does look promising.

ETA: One thing to keep in mind, is come June 15th, Disneyland can drop all capacity restrictions. So reservations may not be needed. Or they'll add more and they will be plentiful.

Seems June 15 was going to be the day about a month ago. Knotts had already extended the start date for out-of-state season passes to 6/15/21. So if Knotts knew in April that 6/15/21 was the day then Disney did as well.

Seeing the frenetic reservation schedule, I wouldn't blame anyone for buying tickets and making reservations as a calculated gamble. Now the people who go before Disney officially removes the restrictions for out-of-state visitors are on a different level.

Also, It's my understanding there is nothing about being a California resident on the tickets and the tickets expire in 2022. So it seems Disney was following the restrictions half-heartedly anyways.

Just glad it is all over with. I hope to never again follow California politics so closely. o_O

I also wouldn't be surprised, since Disney knew of June 15 a while ago, that they held back some days after June 14 to ensure some out of staters would still get an opportunity to reserve once they announce....edit...I see they are already increasing capacity for dates in June and July. So much for that theory.

Amen! My state leans pretty similar (CO) in some areas but we've also been extremely rational and supportive of our businesses during covid. What a mess.

I'm guessing Disneyland will make some sort of announcement once they have all their other ducks in a row with the freedom this gives them. I'm expecting a similar approach that WDW has taken. Which is fine with me! Heck, they're already extending hours into July longer than WDW has! Go DL go!

I don’t think this is as simple as we are making it out to be. Disneyland is considered a mega outdoor event so what I’m interpreting the new guidelines is vax/negative tests will be recommended but not required. If the venue does not require them then they must require masks.

I feel like I've been in the minority about the masks, but I really agree with you. Even though it's spread out, the attendance numbers alone, could qualify it.

While slightly outdated (from May 3rd), the CDPH guidelines currently show that masks will be required at fairs & festivals, which could leave Disneyland in a very grey area. I know the guidelines today say they'll follow CDC, but in either case, I don't see how masks get dropped indoors/on rides. I could see maybe optional outside?

We don't know that for sure quite yet.

I'm happy to provide vaccine proof for me and my kid or wear a mask to come so I'm just happy to know we can at least visit! The biggest thing most of us in this thread have been waiting for is some good news regarding OOS and we got it.

Agreed, just will be happy when Disney announces their plans/requirements so we know for certain what we need to do

There's no way they'd remove indoor masks before WDW which I still think will lead the way with lifting restrictions. I suppose we'll see what WDW does soon bc over in the other Orange County the mayor there is waiting until Memorial Day before moving into their next phase to not require indoor masks. Does that mean Disney will drop them? I honestly doubt it. Either way it should give us insight into what Disney is thinking. A lot of folks think they will, others disagree. 🤷‍♀️ Of course Universal tends to YOLO their way along so they might remove them first and then Disney will feel pressured to...

I imagine no outdoor masks is the more realistic possibility at DL and even then I'm hesitant... I think we all have trust issues with the state at this point.

But again, I'll wear ten masks if the state wants me to- just let me inside. 😂

I am really happy for you to finally see things moving in the right direction for OOS! I know it's been a long wait for you all.

Not quite.

  • At outdoor live events with more than 10,000 people, California will recommend venues have a verification of vaccination/negative test in place. Those who aren't vaccinated or who don't show a negative test result can still enter if they wear a mask. This is a recommendation from the state, not a requirement.

Every other article I’ve read says the recommendation part applies to vax/tests and if the venue chooses not to do that then they must require masks.
  • At outdoor events with over 10,000 participants, like festivals, parades, sporting events and concerts, the state is recommending verification of vaccination or a negative coronavirus test. Or, if the person is neither vaccinated nor tested, venues can give them the option to attend but with a mask required.

Oy, seems like reporters are interpreting the guidelines differently.

In any case, the key word is recommendation. The indoor events are the ones that have firm requirements.

What?! There's a lack of clarity with something the state released!? I'm shocked. 😂 This is probably why we haven't heard from Disneyland yet.

:grouphug: It's been a wild ride this past year hasn't it?

Okay, here is the ACTUAL guidance from the covid19.ca.gov page for outdoor mega events:

576770

Vaccines/negative tests/masks NOT a requirement.

By the way, I think it's shady that the state equates theme parks with outdoor mega events like music festivals. SO not the same thing at all.

Yes but for the past 15 months theme parks have been singled out so it’s kind of nice to not be anymore

Also notice the language of only 'recommended'- all these venues are gonna be like yeah, nope. And considering they didn't include theme parks in that list I think it's all gonna be fine.

I honestly can't understand why, if theme parks are included in this guidance, they were not listed as an example. I'm starting to think that they aren't really included and whomever "confirmed" that they were to the press didn't know what they were talking about.

There's no way they'd remove indoor masks . . . .I imagine no outdoor masks is the more realistic possibility
I don't believe it is possible for Disney to require masks ONLY indoors, and to let them go outdoors. Because people would be constantly putting them on and taking them off and frankly, way too many people would forget to put them on again indoors. Or get upset when they are reminded. So either they will continue to require masks at all times - which is what I expect - or they won't require them at any time.
