Out of all the Disneyland Resort Hotels...

Which do you think is the best to stay in, and why?

Any advice for a Disneyland Resort Hotel Newbie would be great .

The Grand Californian Hotel! It's the newest out of all of them, it's pretty, it smells gorgeous, the rooms are nice, there's the flat screen tv, a mini fridge for leftover meals, and the shower curtains have Bambi and Thumper on them. I love the shower curtains!

I would also pick the Grand Californian. However, it's the most expensive of the 3 official Disneyland resorts. In second place would be the Disneyland Hotel.

Are you interested in Disney owned hotels (there are only 3 in DL) or all Good Neighbor hotels too?

I've enjoyed staying at the Disneyland Hotel. My favorite Good Neighbor hotel is the Candy Cane Inn. However, I will be trying Hojo's for the first time this October.

My opinion, for what it's worth...

For adults or a special/romantic trip: The Grand Californian.

For families with young kids: The Disneyland Hotel.

Families with teens: Paradise Pier.

I usually stay off-site, but for special trips, or when a good deal is available, I'll do the Disney hotels. I miss having a free breakfast, however!

I love them both.

GCH is definately closer to the parks and that is so nice and convenient.
Rooms are smaller in my opinion. GCH is pricey and we most likely won't be staying there anytime soon again unless I can get a great rate.

DLH has nice grounds for the kids. The pool is great but definately gets crowded.

We just stayed at the DL Hotel this past weekend. It was great. I agree with ter-moo's assessment...it kind of depends on the mix of your group, and what you want to pay.

GC is certainly "closer" - and given the proximity, newness and amenities, is much more expensive. DLH, however, is not terribly far away. It took us about 10 min walking to be back at the hotel entrance each time. The pool area was very enjoyable. Our kids had a great time, and are already asking when we can stay there again.

NO FREE BREAKFAST at the Grand Californian?! I guess I'm so used to having the free breakfast thrown in at most of the cost-efficient (cheap!) hotels that I assumed it'd be available at the Grand Californian. We go next week!

Only if you have concierge service, which at the Grand Californian costs a goodly amount over and above your regular room rate. Like $100 a night or something like that. That gets you access to the concierge lounge on the 6th floor, which is stocked with snacks and beverages all day long.

If money weren't an object, I'd stay at the GHC. It's truly wonderful.

Not sure where you got the $100/night price, but when I checked in August, the regular AP rate for a standard room is $365/night and upgrade to concierge is $640/night - WAY more than $100/night difference

I just received our hotel confirmation in the mail yesterday. They broke down the cost of concierge for each hotel: $100 per night plus 15% bed tax at PPH, $125 per night plus 15% bed tax at DLH, and $150 per night plus 15% bed tax at the GCH. These may be a better rate because I am using the fall special to book. But it is a considerable difference. It probably wouldn't be worth it for us until our kids are much older.

I'd say both GCH and DLH are great. There reasons to stay at both :


GCH:

- close proximity to the parks w/ a private entrance to GCH
- the darkwoods and finishings are beautiful
- it has a great ambience
- if you're exhausted, its a short walk back to the hotel
- the restaurants are great
- the room views are great if you reserve them

DLH:

- its less expensive
- the pool is amazing
- goofy's kitchen is in the hotel
- the koi pond is beautiful
- if you get on the right tower and a higher floor you can see fireworks.

I'd say both GCH and DLH are great. There reasons to stay at both :


GCH:

I agree with my cousin.
If I had to pick only one, I'd do GCH because it's extremely close to the park, it's gorgeous, and GREAT overall

Nope. The only way you'll get a free breakfast is if you bring breakfast stuff yourself and keep it in your room!

There is a coffeemaker in the room, though, so at least THAT'S free!

WOW - that is such a good price compared to what we could get in August - even with an AP discount! I was hoping it would be around $100/night, but for $300/night, not gonna happen!

Although, the fiancee and I are getting APs so we could probably get some kind of
discount if we do decide to stay at the GCH.

I'd pick the Grand Californina (and always do!)
In May, with AAA discount I paid between 334 and 352 a night (weekdays versus weekends) but..remember the tax, which was 48-54 per night..PLUS the resort fee at 11.50 per night. The GC is our one big splurge, so it's worth it for us, but not for some.

We stayed at PP concierge last November for $169 a night (plus taxes/fees). At that rate (an AP rate), going concierge was very worth it for us as a family of 5.

Back to the original question, having stayed at all 3 DL hotels, for 2-3 people, if money were no object, I'd stay at the GC. However, for a family of 4-5, I'd stay at the DLH as the room was significantly larger. Yes, it's a little further away, but not really that much, and I just thought the DLH was magical.
