:yay:

Are these not the 3 happiest words for a photo-gadget-geek? :)

A Canon 17-55mm f2.8 is on the final steps of it's journey from Adorama (with whom my bank is beginning to have a deep and meaningful relationship with after providing me a 70-200mm F4L IS and this puppy over the past year).

There is now no longer any excuse for every shot I take not to be brilliant [other than a total lack of talent that is ]

Too bad it's such a dreary day, when the 70-200 arrived it was a beautiful day and I was immediately convinced that the seemingly ridiculous price had been worth it by the quick focus, brilliant colors, sharpness and smooth bokeh it produced as I snapped shots of the birds in the neighborhood.

Wait - is that the doorbell?

I know the feeling!

Just this week...

Canon 5D Mark II
Canon BG-E6 Battery Grip
Tokina 11-16
Canon 24-70

Go Stanley, :cool1: Go Stanley, :cool1: Go Stanley, :cool1: .......

WilsonFlyer feels a severe case of "Stanley Envy" coming on. :lmao:

Congrats! I'm headed down the same road just as fast as I can go, partner.

Thanks everyone.

No really nifty pictures yet - it's been drizzling all day and the stuff around the house just isn't that interesting!

It definitely turns a Rebel XS into a 2 handed camera.

It seems to be able to focus in dimmer light than the 18-55mm Kit lens - which sorta doesn't make sense since the focusing sensor is in the camera.

I should have included a hood in the purchase, but didn't think about it (well really you spend more than a grand on a lens you figure a hood comes with it...sheesh) so I guess the local camera shop will be making a few bucks on the deal.

Actually, it does make sense -- the f/2.8 aperture lets in significantly more light than the largest aperture on the kit lens, which allows the AF to work faster and more "confidently." My Nikon D300 almost sounds like it will strip a bearing focusing the 50mm f/1.8 because it lets in so much light.

Sweet. I got my Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 a few weeks ago and today I ordered the Nikon SB-900 and Gary Fong collapsable dome diffuser. I'll have those tomorrow and will give them a good workout at a dance on Sunday.

Looking forward to it.

Congratulations! The sight of the UPS/FedEx truck is one of the most beautiful things I know.
