Out And About In The VMK Community...

Ok, so I must admit, I live a fairly sheltered VMK life. I come on, get my free credits, maybe play a few games, and see my friends. That's it. Nothing more.
Well Monday I decided to change that. I went out and walked around through the lands. I played the "Timmy is stuck down in the well" trick on some poor unsuspecting VMKers (it was pretty funny though). I wondered aimlessly throughout some of the rooms. I really wanted to see what this fuss was about. What truly goes on in these "Will you be my bf/gf/mummy/da da/wed me/models wanted" rooms.
In my mummy/da da room. *shivers* This one gave me the creeps the most. Characters were walking into the room and it was being asked across the screen if they wanted kids, or needed a mummy and da da. I did quickly make my exit out of here.
Next I wandered into a "get wed here" room. This was funny to me since a lot of the words are not allowed to preform a ceremony. LOL. You saw a lot of ### ### ### across the screen. Basically you got in line with your bf/gf and someone married you too. What I did not really like about this room was after a couple was "wed", the boy asked if the girl wanted to party in his room. *shivers again*

While I was leaving this room, I got a pm from someone on my friends list that said "come model". Now, realize I get these messages from the younger kids on my list a few days a day. But today I through caution into the wind and decided to try it. Hey, dress up can be fun!
Well, I ended up winning the show, and it was funny because the people waiting to come in were booing me and saying "wrong choice" LOL. Yeah, I really did laugh it off (I KNOW I was cute)!

So what I learned:
Kids are jus that, kids. Don't you remember playing house when you were young? What about Barbies? (GI joes? LOL). To me, there is a lot of innocent fun being had out there. I think that a lot of it is modern-day dress up, playing house, and playing with your dolls. It is very weird when I try and think about it on an adult level. I never did that as a kid. Who plays house online?!? But this is the day and age we are in. I just really hope that there are parents and VMK staff looking out for any unwanted behavior. That is the only thing that makes me feel a little better. Because these are children we are speaking of. Very innocent, and very curious.

On a lighter note, I noticed that my bathroom door squeaks, and it sound like the parrot from the pirate costume magic pin.

Interesting report on the goings on in the VMK world. True, I remember playing with my gi joe's and all that good stuff as a kid, but the only thing that bothers is that some of these people could actually be taking this seriously. If I knew 100% that everyone knew it was just a game, I wouldn't have a problem with it

Oh, and get some WD-40 and spray your hinges. Then it'll be as quiet as the invisibility pin

There are many times when I just want to go to "the regulars" and hang out. But I've also been experimenting with the "get out and see what's out there" mode.

If I'm not adventurous, I'll just walk the streets, just to listen in.

If I'm feeling twisted, I'll go to guest rooms. Sometimes it'll be as freaky as you said, and a quick exit is best (I'm not the type to heckle). Sometimes, you end up meeting nice people, and realize that there are probably many, many "tight groups" like ours that we're never even aware of, because they have their own "regular" spots.

But sometimes, I wander around and end up just feeling really lonely. It's a toss up

You have inspired me to take a long walk today and check out the neighborhood. And I'm glad you posted this because you are right, kids play kids games and if you look at it in a different prospective things look alot better. I'm sure most of the players realize that it is a game. Not real life. And its a way to act out their fantasy role playing which is a big part of growing up. How many of us girl played wedding and dress up when we were little? I know I did. Did I think I was really married, um no. Did I think i was a superstar model? um, no. Did it ruin me for my adult years, um no. Okay maybe. LOL But seriously, its all role playing and perfectly natural to do. And perhaps as adults we should keep an eye on things just to be sure that they are truly children who are playing and not some creep adult playing for kicks. Just watch and observe unless things get out of hand, kind of like a babysitter. And it could actually be a bit fun to watch kids playing and enjoying themselves. might bring back those fun memories of when we were kids.

Yes, but I think I just got labelled as a creep adult I mentioned "my wife", and some horrified kid asked why I was playing the game. She left Central Plaza very shortly afterwards... She's still probably freaked out by her discovery.

I am so glad that I came home from work today to see that my entry was not flamed (of course I didn't really think my PEERS would do that here on VMK..other threads maybe ). I was thinking about what I wrote all day. I even had a discussion about it with one of my associates who understood where I was coming from.

I know that deep down I am "babysitting" these kids. I was making sure things didn't get "weird" in any of the "wed, bf/gf/parents-kids needed" rooms. And to my surprise I did not see anything that was not of the normal. This is todays day and age and I am starting to grasp that. Of course I don't have children of my own and maybe when I do my feelings will change. I really try to be an open-minded individual that flows with the changes in society.

Mind you, I still hate to think that there are "creeps" out there in these rooms looking for victims. That is why I still plan on keeping my eyes open to the words and language used.

It really was fun though! And JeanJoe, I know what you mean. I have done this on other days and never really met anyone new. It was sort of lonely

I usually stay to my own little corners of the kingdom, too. Kinda weird...I've worked so hard to furnish and link all my rooms, but no one sees them. Just me and DD12. I told her to use my rooms whenever she wants, but I think she prefers hers.

And see, to me this is the perfect opportunity to come out of your shell There are so many interesting people out there who have lots to share (even if it is how much they love their teleporter or inferno magic pin LOL). Or even if they share how much they want to be your boy even though you tell them you are old and lame and green and ugly (what is with these kids???) LOL.

I am able to laugh and yell and run and dance all over the place and not care what others think. I love that!

I must admit I kinda saw the bf/gf wed thing coming, but I was shocked when someone asked if I needed a mummy or a da da! Kinda weird to me at first, now I just say I got a kids of my own already, and so far they get the hint.

Perhaps not evident in how I act in VMK or how I post here, but this is me in real life too. Somehow, there safety and a little disinhibition in a virtual world.

Chimera! LOL!! I find myself going on and hanging out with my 2 sons!! It's kind of funny/lame since we're all in the same house! We'll have to meet up Chimera - you can show me your room and I'll show you mine. I too am shy in large Dis groups - can't seem to break free of that even in virtual reality games!

The thing that freaks me out is how do we know they really ARE children?? A lot of them may be, but some little girly looking character could really be a 50 year old gross guy I do not like the wed, bf/gf, child rooms I think Disney may be headed for trouble witht this one!

I understand exactly what you mean! I have thought the same thing! And vice-versa with kids acting as adults. Those were my first thoughts when I initially saw these rooms spring up. I was absolutely floored that these rooms would be allowed. That is why I wanted to see the goings on myself. That is why I walked around, outside of my comfort zone to see first hand what was happening. Honestly, I personally did not see anything weird going on between characters (well, except that boy and girl going to his room to party after they were wed..a little weird to me...). I still think that the assumption that there could be creeps out there prying themselves into kids lives is there. That is why I remain focused to continuing my walk-thru everyday to enforce the VMK. I am fine if VMK does away with them all-together, I support them. But for now I am doing what is in my effort to help.

It's OK -- the VMK's are well aware of the issues, and are monitoring things. From what I understand, for now, so long as it's make-believe and play, that's fine. But obviously, and lewd behavior and they'll enforce bans.
