So we just got back from a 9 night stay at the Yacht Club. About 3 days in, we come back to our room in the evening and our room smelled a bit of weed. We aired it out and went to bed. Woke up the next morning and it smelled again in our bathroom. It was coming from the fan vent. As we were leaving for the day, I stopped at the desk to let them know that someone is smoking and it is coming into our room. They did nothing. We got back later in the day and we could not even go into our room it smelled so bad. We walked right out and went to the desk. I insisted that someone come up and smell the room so they would not think that we were exaggerating. It took a while but a manger and security came up and went into our room to smell it. Of course, they could smell it too so they went around to the surrounding rooms to check those. The only 2 rooms that smelled where ours and our next door, mirror neighbors. They were smoking in the bathroom thinking the vent would take the smell out but it was coming back down into our room. They said that they would take care of it. Great. Nope, the next day, same thing. Now that was ticking me off, it is nasty. So one last time I went down and said that it is happening again and that this is the 3rd time that we have complained about it. I was really nice about it but I feel like they seem to do more for people that are nasty and yell. They finally came up and kicked the people out after 4 days of these people smoking pot in the room. Before you all start, I am just sharing our experience and at no point was I rude to cast members nor did I want, ask, or expect any compensation other then for them to get those people to stop smoking weed in the room. After the last time that I went down to tell them about it, I never heard from anyone at Disney again about the matter.

I don't blame you for complaining - at all. That smell really persists. I would have requested a different room. You really should send an email to Disney about it. I don't have the email address offhand. Hopefully someone chimes in and let you know where to send it.

Smoking of any kind can be annoying. Just one question. How do you know what weed smells like? 🤷🏻‍♂️😂 Jk

They did say that we could move, but we were unpacked and settled in. I am weird and bring my own bedsheets so it would have been a pain to pack up and move. We really liked our room location too. Plus I believe that the "victim" should not be the one that is inconvenienced. Why should we have to have to waste the time and energy when we are not the ones that are in the wrong. They should immediately take care of the issue instead of just stopping the "complainer" by moving them.

If I were in the room without kids I probably wouldn’t have minded it depending how intense it was to me. Cigarette smoke would bug me to no end.

People are morons. There are soooo many ways to do weed without it smelling. Vape pens, oils, edibles, etc. They deserved to be kicked out and hopefully charged a cleaning fee by Disney.

I agree it’s a pain in the neck to move. I will usually stay in a room and deal with an issue rather than pack up all my stuff and relocate. If they offered an upgraded room that might be worth the move. I’ve never had this type of an issue at Disney but have twice at another hotel. Unfortunately I feel like smelling weed is becoming the norm and I HATE it 😡. I’m glad they finally addressed the problem and had the guests removed.

Just going to offer my thoughts as someone who worked at a Disney deluxe.

It is best practice to offer the person complaining about almost any issue a different room to solve the immediate problem. This goes for when you have unreasonably loud neighbors, smokers, weird smells, really anything bothering you. That’s the same go-to protocol that’s been done for years. Most people are happy with it (especially if they get better accommodations) and move on with their trip. Depending on the issue, you would maybe get something else for the inconvenience of moving (gift card, money off the room, in more recent years FP, etc.) I’m surprised you weren’t offered an additional incentive to move.

It’s been 16 years since I worked there, but management/security usually gave a warning and then if it happened again, removal. Sounds like they didn’t follow that process. The guests should have been removed if they violated the initial warning.

I'd suggest the OP write a letter to guest services concerning this incident. It shouldn't take that many tries to get the issue resolved. In the past, guest relations has been very responsive, often providing refunds/credits for your inconvenience.

After the 2nd complaint i would of asked to be moved. Third time i would of said something like i am going to complain to head office. The issue should of been resolved after complaint number 1.

Yeah, when I went down the 3rd time, the morning after they came up and smelled my room and figured out who it was, I told them that this needs to stop now or I would escalate it. We did see a manager and security outside, in the trees, looking up at their room. We are on the second floor and I guess they were trying to "catch them in the act". But that didn't work. I think what happened is that they did not catch those people back in their room that evening and were going to "take care of it" the next day, which they did. I feel that Disney treads too lightly on these things. What they should have done is locked them out of their room on that day that they came up and smelled the rooms. That way it would have forced them to come down to the desk and they could have been dealt with right then instead of waiting for them the next day, giving them that other chance to smoke in the room again. I also would have appreciated a follow up. But Disney does not like to do that.

Wow. I am so sorry you had this experience. In my opinion (and my own experience with non-Disney hotels), YC should have offered to move you to a different room. If the problem wasn’t resolved within at most 24 hours, I would have asked (and if necessary, insisted) to be moved to a new room. (Actually, if it had been me, I would have asked when I first noticed it.) I live in the first state to have legalized weed and have stayed at hotels here where despite no smoking (of any kind) rules, have had neighbors smoking weed in their rooms or balconies. Hotels have been very accommodating in theirs offers to move me when I’ve reported weed. I can’t say what they did about the people smoking it because the times it’s been offered to me, I have taken hotels up on their offer. I think Disney should have been more proactive in not only offering you a new room but removing these guests from the property.

See my previous posts. The go to should not be to remove the wronged person, but to take care of the offender. No need to inconvenience the victim even more. If there is something wrong with the room, like the air not working, then of course, we should move. But having a person next to you smoking weed, is not something that I should have to pack up and move for instead of Disney getting rid of them. It is illegal in Florida to smoke weed.
