Hi everyone! We're back from a wonderful week at Disney, so I thought I'd type up some thoughts while everything is still fresh in my mind.
Here's our motley assortment of travelers:
Me, 34, married to DH almost 12 years. A Disney nut since I was 5 years old. I spent 13 months planning this trip, and I wanted everything to be perfect! Even though I've been to Disney many times, this was my first time using Tour Guide Mike's plan.
DH, 38, a converted Disneyholic and the love of my life.
My mom and dad, both 50-somethings and retired.
My sister (30), her DH (31) and my beloved dear nephew, who's almost 3. This was my nephew's first trip to Disney.
Our trip:
Friday, Dec. 1: Our flight left Tennessee at 7 p.m., and we were in Orlando at 8:20 p.m. The weather was so warm -- even at night. We were peeling off our sweatshirts at the airport!
We had no trouble finding the Magical Express check-in, and everything went smoothly. Luckily, we just beat a huge group of people checking in. We went right to a bus, waited on board about 15 minutes and were then on our way to Disney World! It took a little less than an hour to get to our resort for the night, All-Star Movies. This was the third of three stops for our Magical Express bus -- it also made stops at All-Star Music and All-Star Sports. There were LOTS of Pop Warner players on the bus with us. Most of them were staying at All-Star Sports.
By the time we got to All-Star Movies, we were one of only a couple of families left on the bus. We checked in with no wait. We were assigned to the Mighty Ducks building, which was pretty far from the main building. Since we were only staying here one night, it was no big deal. We were all starving, so we grabbed something to eat in the food court before going to our rooms. DH and I split a cheeseburger, which was pretty good. Everyone else also got burgers, with the exception of my dad, who ordered a child's pasta. He said it was good. We paid cash for this meal.
After eating, we hiked to our rooms. Let me preface my next comment by saying we're not resort snobs. DH and I spent our honeymoon at All-Star Music in 1995 and loved it. Well, nearly 12 years later, All-Star Movies is showing its age. The furniture in our room was nicked and banged up, and the carpet appeared worn. The worst thing was the telephone, which was so dirty and stained it didn't look white anymore. It was just grimy. We were all glad to be here just one night!
Our suitcases were delivered by Magical Express around 11:30 p.m., which I thought was pretty good. We grabbed our stuff, got a wake-up call for 6 a.m. and fell into bed exhausted. My DH and I shared a room with my sister and her DH, while my parents and nephew stayed in a connecting room. Again, I'm glad this was just for one night -- those rooms are small for four adults!
The next morning was Saturday, Dec. 2, and we planned to brave the parade crowds and spend our first full day in the World at Magic Kingdom.
To be continued...
