Day 2 arrived bright and early. We had a breakfast scheduled in the castle at Cinderella's Royal Table for 9:55AM. We arrived at the Magic Kingdom, the girls looking beautiful in their Cinderella costumes. As it was once again HOT (do you see a trend?) and the girls were all fancy, we decided to shop and stroll up Main Street and not try to rush to any rides this morning.
As we're walking up Main Street, we saw Cruella DeVil and Wendy from Peter Pan with very short lines, so we decide to make a quick stop for pictures and autographs.
When we got to the castle, the show Cinderellabration was on so we stopped and watched for a bit before going to breakfast. The kids thought this was a wonderful show!
The breakfast at Cinderella's Royal Table ended up being one of the highlights of our trip! The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and the food was fabulous! We had never had a chance to eat in the castle, but this year we did the commando calling at exactly 7:00 AM on the 90th day before our trip and got reservations. Hooray!
Our waiter asked us if we wanted the traditional breakfast or the healthy plate. We've been dieting for a year and all bets were off at Disney. Needlessly to say, we never saw that healthy plate. We started out with fruit and breakfast rolls which were quite yummy. And then the real food arrived. We had eggs, bacon, sausage, potato casserole and the greatest stuffed french toast in the world! We all had to have seconds of the french toast. It was delicious! While we were eating, several characters come to visit. We got to see Belle, Aurora, Cinderella, Mary Poppins and Snow White.
As the girls were in their Cindy gowns, Cinderella took them over to the stairs for a picture. She was going to hold Molly for a picture and we got another fabulous picture of Molly enjoying Disney! NOT! After Mommy got Molly to quit screaming, we finally got that picture, although I had to be in it with the girls. Did we mention that Molly doesn't like the characters?
As we were leaving we went to the lobby where the Fairy Godmother was waiting. She was super! As she was chatting with the girls, she started singing Bibbity Bobbity Boo with the girls. It was one of those little magical moments we love about Disney so much.
We wandered around the castle a bit admiring the beautiful mosaics and all the details that makes the castle as beautiful as it is. We stopped at the Cinderella fountain (if you look at it from the front, the crown looks like it on Cinderella's head). As we were walking to the lockers to store our dresses, we saw a momma duck with three baby ducklings swimming in the moat around the castle.
The girls changed out of their dresses in the locker area and off we went. Kevin went and got Fastpasses for Space Mountain and then we went to see It's a Small World. Molly fell asleep and missed the entire ride. Oh well.
Afterward, it was time to use our Fastpasses. Erin finally got to ride a real roller coaster for the first time, and our next roller coaster junkie was born! It was AWESOME!
Peggy told us of an exchange on her message board about the use of the word Awesome.
"Okay, this is even a bit more off topic, but has anyone ever seen the bit that Eddie Izzard does about how we Americans over-use the word "awesome." Like, we use it to describe a hotdog, but if a hotdog were truly "awesome" we'd be almost speechless, like "Oh...my...gosh...that...is...the...most...amazing...thing." And then how when we travel to space and the crew is talking to mission control, it's like:
Mission Control: "What's it like up there?"
Crew Member: "It's awesome!"
Mission Control: "What, like a hotdog?"
Crew Member: "No, more like a hundred billion hotdogs, sir."
And so, our new favorite phrase became, "Awesome, like a hotdog!"
We decided to call it quits for rides for the day and shop on our way out. At the lockers, we came upon Chip and Dale. They began playing with the girls as we were the only ones around. They danced and played and messed with the girls. Dale was afraid of the train overhead and the girls got to take care of him until it passed. I know it's hard to believe, but Molly didn't like them except from a distance. The one time Chip came close, she made her displeasure known quite loudly.
Because we were leaving at an off time, Brenna and Kevin got to ride in the front of the monorail where she received her pilot's license. Yea!
We went back to the hotel for a few hours to nap and relax (Peggy's feet were hurting!). Unfortunately, housekeeping hadn't come yet, and since we forgot to put out the Do Not Disturb sign, they knocked and entered to room, waking the kids up. Since the floor was STILL wet, Molly had to be corralled on the beds or carried around (her favorite mode of transportation). Oh well, what would I do with a nap anyway. Peggy had gotten in touch with Todd and Cheryl, gamer friends of hers, and they were going to try to join us for dinner at the Coral Reef Restaurant in Epcot. As we had a bit of time before we had to meet them, we went on Spaceship Earth, the ride inside the sphere. Molly really did like this ride. All those colors! We enjoyed meeting Peggy's friends. They are Disney freaks too! I had a lime green Mickey head on my stroller, and Cheryl saw it and as it turns out, she's a member of the DIS too. Great minds think alike, or so I've been told!
The plan was to go to dinner at 6:00 PM and then tour Epcot until it was time for Illuminations (the fireworks show) at 9:00 PM. Little did we know that our dinner would take two and a half hours! We only had a PS for 6 people, but we showed up with 8 and they had no problem seating us. The food was only OK but dessert was really good. Peggy got the Chocolate Wave (Dark chocolate cake with a white chocolate grand marnier center finished with chocolate ganache and white chocolate ice cream), Kevin and Todd got California Gold (California Orange Pudding surrounded by Vanilla Sponge Cake, topped with whipped cream and orange zest) Cheryl got Lost at Sea (trio of assorted house made fruit sorbets), I got Chocolate Adrift (a frozen chocolate malt mousse raft and white chocolate oars) and the kids got the Make Your Own Sundae.
When we finished, we only had time to walk to our viewing area. Because we booked our trip with AAA, we had a reserved viewing area for Illuminations that is really great. I had brought a lot of glow necklaces and bracelets and we decorated ourselves and the people around us until the show started. We had decorated everyone in the viewing area and still had some left, so we gave them to a family that was standing at the wall. It turns out that they didn't speak much English, and we had fun trying to communicate with them to explain how the glows worked. The kids really liked them. Illuminations is an amazing show and completed entralled everyone. After the show, we went back to the hotel and, once again, the kids crashed as did we.
