First let me say, we are the "Griswalds" (Vacation movie, starring Chevy Chase!) We did all the planing, yet, we had some bad luck, or rather, just things go NOT according to plan.
Yes our trip was great, yes we had a ball, yes we're going back next year, WITHOUT the kids, on the cruise. We DID however, learn some things on this trip.
First mistake, we drove from NC w/3 kids, too much luggage, not enough leg room, and a husband who's not used to being out of his eliment.Enough said there.... It took us ONLY 10.5 hrs to get there. Second mistake,we didn't stay onsite. Yes we did save money, but that was all.The hotel was nice, but we were 10 min.from the parks, there was NO magic at the hotel, and we couldn't go for rests during the day.We did utilize the 5 day park hopper plus. This was a smart move.We did hop around from parks. I DID learn alot here on the boards, did do the fast pass, what a great invention. We breezed thru all the rides. The parks were crowded, but that was expected. We really only waited once, for one ride, Epcots'Test Track. We LOVED MGM,loved everything about it.Of course loved MK, the kids were alright w/ Epcot, but Hubby and I LOVED it. I wasn't too impressed w/ AK. Hubby and kids liked it, I was dissapointed. We ate dinner at,Peco's Bills,Cosmic Ray's in MK, both very good for the price. Ate at Hollywood & Vine in MGM,very good for the money, also did the Fantasmic package w/ it. HIGHLY reccomened FANTASMIC, SOOOO incredible.Blew our minds.Ate off site the rest of the nights, and did dinner at Planet Hollywood, had an awesome waiter,ALEX. The Tuscan Chicken was very good.We also did desert on our last night in MK,went to Contemporary and had the Cappucino Mousse..mmmmmm good. Watched the water parade too.We spent last night in DTD,it was nice, and had desert in Ghiradelis (sp)it was good, but expensive!! Over all, we loved it. Just found out that staying onsite is WORTH it.Eating in the parks isn't that much different than out in town, the water park,Typhoon Lagoon was really cool, but you HAVE to wear water shoes. The concrete ground will kill your feet. Also, my teenage son called it "The land of speedos"!!
We are going back, next year,Nov.of 2002.Doing the land/sea package. I will let them fly me,stay onsite, eat onsight, and let them transport me around. My ONLY regret, is that I didn't just sit back and take it all in like I SWORE I would..Only a few times we sat and enjoyed and AWESOME ice creme treat in MK over in Adventure Land...pineapple juice and vanilla ice cream....mmmm good. The whole trip will be forever a part of our memories, and the Magic DOES live on!
