a white supremecy group is coming to our town for a rally.....the city and alot of the cities in maine are coming to the college inour town for a peaceful demonstration .....we will also welcome all the ethnic groups that make up our city.....our newest residents are from Somolia......and they are good additions to our city.......we are made up of so many different cultures.......my family came from Canada.......we have friends that are from Greece....Ireland.....our first real citizens are Indians......we have friends from India.....so we are many of one.....that is the name of our peace rally.....hands interlocking together.......to become one........

As someone with a "rainbow" family, and so many friends from different cultures/race.. my kids have never noticed color, and so many cultures/races pass through our home.. its unbelievable.

I read somewhere (census info maybe?) that African American population percentages in Maine were very low--maybe 2% of the entire state.

Why supremacy groups still exist is beyond me. Are you going out to protest against them? I would be the first ones out there!

I'm keeping your town in my prayers!! I hope it is a peaceful weekend. And I hope the peaceful rallies make a much bigger impact (I'm sure they will)

If I didn't have another obligation this weekend, I be going to the college rally w/ my ds.

I must say I was thrilled to hear that the leader of this white supremecy group was thrown in a jail cell & can't make this rally!! Hmmmm wonder if that says something about the group? He's in jail on charges that he tried to get someone to murder a federal judge.
sick!

Marie, will you be going to the college rally?

I think it's wonderful that there is a peaceful demonstration scheduled at the same time AWAY from the racists. I hope no one goes to protest the racist's rally. That only gives them what they want -- attention. I hope your town and all the surrounding towns stay as far away from the racist rally as possible. Show them that you are united in peace, not hate! :) :) :)

Good deal Pumba! :) :) :)

I've been to both types of rallies -- protest against and at the racist rally, and protests for peace away from the rally. The protest away from the rally are always much more productive and positive. You find when you go to the racist rally itself, you tend to lower yourself to their level. Hate breeds hate. Love breeds love.

Have a great, loving weekend Pumba!

every place I turn to....hubby went back to work today......if I don't get the flu......I am going to the Bates College Rally tomorrow ....it will be also a chance to welcome our new residents to our town....and let them know that we have alot of good people here......

Good luck Pumba and nice job to your town. We saw this on the news last night about the other town that they are doing the "protest" in and what the mayor has to say - it sounds like your town is taking the way it should - in stride and welcoming to those that wish to come!!!!!!

Hi Neighbor,

I'll be thinking of you this weekend Pumpa! My family and I are not going to be able to make it down to Lewiston, but our hearts are there. I hope that all goes well and is peaceful.

Marie, I haven't read the newspapers or heard the news yet about this weekend... how did it go??

peaceful is the word........could not get near the college....can you believe that......over 5000 that made it to the auditorium and then another thousand outdoors in the freezing weather.......no violence at the haters meeting either........I heard their talk on the tv and it made me cringe to think that someone could say the things they said....the hate was to much for me.........to think that people could be that filled with hate is beyond me...........

It's heartbreaking to know that peoplel have so much hatred for others, isn't it Pum?

I'm glad the rally was peaceful.

Good to hear it went well, Pum. It is amazing the hate some people can have in their souls. When folks like your town do it the right way, the haters drift away, eventually. Hope your week is a good one.

My mom lives in North Idaho so I understand what youre talking about

I can tell you that their hate WILL get the better of them!

A few years ago a man and his mom blew out a tire ( or something like that had car troule) right near their compound, they were actually shot at!! They son and mom took them to court, they were found guilty, the court awarded them the WHOLE compound!!!

It was bought by a wonderful man from Seattle ( I think) who donated many parts of it to North Idaho College to make a momunment to MLK and Human Rights!!

:) :) :) :)

Hows THAT for justice?! :) :)

Im Glad your rally was peaceful and non eventful in Coeur D Alene, they used to petition for the right to have a parade down the middle of downtown, so here would be these nasty, hateful people thinking they were making a dofference in their cause when all they did was bring out the GOOD in people! People would line the streets in protest and just do good things! :)
