Our Thanksgiving Trip-It was like herding cats! 7/16-FINAL THOUGHTS ARE DONE!!!!

LOVE the 80's pictures! Brings back some great memories. My sister had some of those glasses but the were even bigger! I don't know what we/they were thinking! Gotta love the shorts too! :lmao:

Hey there! Thanks for reading! I have no idea how to multi-quote so I just have to respond in one big blob.

I guess everything in that decade had to be BIG! The glasses, the Disney World hats (ginormous), the camera around my sister's neck, the big giant circle earrings my step-sis is wearing, the sunglasses, not to mention the shoulder pads and suit jackets my mom wore to work! Yikes! Of course we also carried around gigantic boom boxes with speakers the size of small cars, and a few years after this we had hair that was so big we had to duck down to come into a room. Oh yeah, we were cool! :cool2:

At the bottom of the post that you want to quote click on the multi quote button, and it will turn orange. When you're ready to post click on the post button and everyone's quotes will show up. Then you can delete any of the stuff you don't need, but make sure you leve the
boxes, and don't respond in between those boxes.

I wanted to tell you, I love Debbie Downer! I have never laughed so hard at a SNL skit! I had tears in my eyes!:rotfl2:

WOW! I love the 80's pix! I do not have enough nerve to post any pics anywhere in the world of myself in the 80's. It was not pretty. :lmao:
They were great though, thanks for sharing.

Thanks Kimmy! Awww.. come on! Let's see some KimmyDisneyNerd 80's pics - we won't laugh! Well at least you wouldn't HEAR us laughing! (I'm sure no one is laughing at me, right? ;)

Thanks for keeping up!

Well let me just say a big hearty :thanks: for reading! I thought for sure that I would be writing and writing and no one would stop by! I'm not that frequent to the DIS boards and don't post a whole lot, so I didn't know if anyone would actually care about what I was writing. So, Thanks! :goodvibes

When I first started to write this, I thought I would just give a little bit of background on our cast and our prior trips, and now as I look back I hope I haven't bored anyone who was hoping to start reading a pre-trip report about a Thanksgiving 2007 Disney Trip, and instead got a bunch of strangers from the 70's and 80's on their computer screens! I do want to post a report on our last trip (Jan of 2006) as it was so pitiful, (shamelessly asking for pity readers) but I have one more trip to highlight before the "disney disease" trip and before I start the pre-trip for this trip! So, on with the trip before the trip before this pre-trip! Got that? Ok.

Our family had not been on a family vacation to Disney since that lovely 1980's trip, so fast forward about 16 years to the year 2002, and now I'm married with a little boy (14 months old), my sister is married with 3 girls (ages 2, 4, and 6) and my brother is also married but with no kids yet!

We took a mostly unplanned quick trip to the world in May of 2002 and had such a good time. I say "mostly unplanned" as we (my Mom and I) were headed to Orlando for some training on the accounting software we were purchasing for work. We thought "hey, why don't we see if the guys (hubby and step-dad) want to go" and called my sister who lives in GA to see if they could meet us there for the weekend as well! My brother and his wife unfortunately had other plans that they couldn't change. So, our 1st family trip since the 1980’s was born! Bonus that the company pretty much paid for the lodging and the tickets, since we purchased everything throught the convention!

We headed to Orlando and me, mom, hubby, and step-dad along with the baby had one day at MGM, then Mom and I spent 3 days in training (while the guys stayed at the pool and went to Sea World one of the days), then my sister and her crew joined us and we did the MK and Epcot each for a day, then we left to go back to VA and my sister and her family stayed on and spent the last day of our 4-day conference tickets at the AK.

See? Short little synopsis, wasn't it? Here are a couple of pictures from that trip, for your perusement!

Mom with DS at MGM - he loved his umbrella backpack!

We didn't have a plan - so we just caught the tail-end of the parade at MGM!

Tuckered out!

While mom and I went to our convention, the guys took the baby and went to SeaWorld. I don't have too many pics but here are two I found:

Ok, so the girls got there, and the fun truly began! Here they are at the hotel right after getting there.
DSC00034.jpg

They're so little! :sad1: Where does the time go?
(If you've been keeping up since the beginning, these are "Belle" - 6 at the time, "Happy" - 4 at the time, & "Sleeping Beauty" -2 at the time - nieces).

DSC00033.jpg

These two are 6 and 7 years old now! They grow up soooo fast!

Ok, so the first few days of our trip (MGM and conference days) were really nice temperature-wise - low 80's. Then, on the first day of being together - our MK day - WHAMO! It felt like 100 + degrees outside! :scared: It was a weeee bit hot!

Mom and two of my nieces (ages 4 and 6) on Dumbo! Right after this picture was taken, the ride took off, and it started to downpour! They brought all the elephants down, but by then, we were all drenched! I was riding with my son and my brother-in-law and all 6 of us from Dumbo were soaking wet! Not fun! My husband, step-dad, and sister and youngest niece had taken cover and were perfectly dry! Great! :thumbsup2

Mad Hatter and Alice! I remember that these two were really great!

The girls were in awe!

Our Epcot day was next. It was raining, so the park was totally empty when we got there. We ended up not doing a lot (shocker) (Shh, we didn't know what we were doing!) We did eat at the Garden Grill which was fun:

Worms in dirt, I believe!

1st meeting with the mouse!

I believe he was dancing in the aisles with the girls - they loved it!

DSC00089.jpg

I don't think my son was too sure about this encounter!

Last but certainly not least!

So that was 2002. Up next, the Trip Before This Trip... and it wasn't pretty!

Look at Sara, teasing us with the cliffhangers!

Yeah, well I've got to keep people interested somehow!

I'm very easily influenced - just learning from the best of you guys!

Isn't that the true DIS veteran trip-report writer way? Lure everyone in and then leave them wanting more? :wave2:

Sara

Don't follow my lead! I finished my plans, and past trips too early. Now I just ramble on and on about random things! I still have readers though! Everyone keeps coming back to see my picture of the day!

Yeah, the picture of the day was a great tactic! ;) Way to keep us hooked!

Maybe I need to try that one! Something other than scary 80's fashions and gigantic eyeglass trends! (I'm still a dork though!) :lmao:

Wow! 16 people!! Your trip is going to be amazing. My Dh and I are going the week after you are... I look forward to reading your trip when I return!

Good luck and have lots of fun with those children!!!

Actually, an 80's picture of the day would definitely keep me coming back for more! Kind of like a car wreck. You know you shouldn't look, but you just can't help yourself! Mine would be more early 90's. BIG HAIR!!!:rotfl:

Woo-hoo, High school graduate of the totally awesome class of 92 here!

Honestly, I always had big hair envy! My hair is super thick and I could never get it to quite stand up and out the way all my friends did! My sister was especially good! It's amazing she didn't topple over with that hair! :rotfl:

Thanks for reading Peggy! Yes, it should be interesting! I think I might can brainwash the kids into doing the things I know we need to do to tour effectively with a large group at a busy time; I'm afraid of trying to convince some of the adults though! Here's hoping ! :thumbsup2

On with the info... This is the aforementioned "how NOT to tour WDW" trip report. For you DIS experts, it might be painful: :scared:

Sometime in the spring of 2005, we (again my mom and I ) decided to look into going back to Disney World. We were talking about how it had been too long since we went in 2002 and now that everyone had finished having babies (I had had 2 little girls since the ’02 trip, and my brother and his wife had a little girl, and were expecting their little boy in July of 05), we should look into planning a family trip for early 2006.

We chose January because we thought it would be nice to go in the off-season and also because we wouldn’t be together over Christmas (doesn’t happen often) and that going in January might be a good way for everyone to see each other soon after the holidays.

We had no “school” issues yet (my sister’s girls were the only ones school age and they are all home-schooled). Also, my brother was looking at taking a position with a new orchestra and would have some time off right in that timeframe! (Side note, my brother and his family ended up NOT coming on this trip due to his wife's issues with moving and she just didn’t feel like “doing Disney”. *sigh*). So we planned it based on it being a good time for them, and ugh, they weren't coming for WHAT reason? It was a little irritating, but oh well - We're going to Disney! You can mope! (not bitter, can you tell? I was just sad for my brother 'cause he really wanted to come)!

So, we decided on staying at a vacation home that looked fantastic – 7 bedrooms, 2 miles from WDW, private pool, great themed bedrooms for the kids, 4 master suites for the adults – it was beyond fantastic! Fantabulous-even! Here are a couple of pics of the kid's rooms:

(This was a bunk bed)

nemo.jpg

There were two of these "under the sea" beds in this room!

buzz_bedroom_2.jpg

This was a bunk as well.

We figured that if we couldn't stay onsite, that at least our house we stayed in would be a lot of fun for the kids! You can betcha those girls were all loving that princess room. The whole house was very well done! When they said "kids themed bedrooms" they weren't talking about a Cinderella comforter on the bed! These were beautiful! (Adult rooms were great too, by the way. Each had their own bath and the most comfortable beds you can imagine!)

Anyway, we found some absurd (in a good way) airfare leaving VA for $39 each way – I even bought the baby a seat instead of holding her, because for $78 roundtrip– Geez – I would have been a moron not to buy her a seat! :woohoo:

Got a great rate on the house since it was off-season, great rental car rate, etc, etc... I had been able to book CRT for our 1st day at 8:15 and we had never done that before, booked Dive Quest for the guys, etc, etc,... It was shaping up to be a GREAT, GREAT, GREAT trip! (scary, foreshadowing music starting now)… :charac2:

How's that for a cliffhanger? Need to get back to work now! I'm looking at my desk and all I can say is :scared1:

They were great! The whole house was great! It was called Majestic Palace and the rate was very reasonable, especially when you split it between a bunch of families (we had 3 seperate groups). The masters (4 ) all had their own baths and were amazingly comfortable, the kids rooms (3 total) had 2 baths between them. There were two dryers (1 washer), a wonderful pool and hot tub, two full size cribs (not port-a-cribs, although I think there was one of those too), strollers we could use, game room.

Anyway, I can't say enough nice things about it. We tried to get it again for this trip, but it was already booked. The house we have this time doesn't look quite as nice but I think it will be fine. Here's to keeping fingers crossed! :woohoo:

I've always had a dream about staying at one of the monorail resorts, but the budget doesn't allow it right now. Plus with our kids ages, it's nice to have that extra space - a couple of hotel rooms for me is not nearly as relaxing. Maybe when they are older and stay up as late as we do, but right now it would be putting the kids to bed and then sitting in a dark, quiet hotel room until we were tired enough to go to sleep. :rolleyes1
