We had a lightweight stroller our Autistic daughter uses at theme parks, or..well in public. It just broke it's axle today!!

i cannot afford to get another now. we like it as it had a visor that she pulls over her head in her time of need.

do the parks at wdw offer these types of strollers...with the visors/shades??

i went to the resale shops and could not find one suitable.

all our money down to our last cent is saved for our trip. well...not all, bills, etc. LOL

have you tried craigslist? also the park strollers are not cheap, but they do have a sunshade, it's not very large but you could always bring a small blanket and a few large clips to fasten the blanket to the sunshade so that your DD could pull it down if need be.

What type do you have
It was the pink jeep stroller. If I order it now it wont arrive in time to our zip code via walmart.com which was the cheapest avenue.

Thanks! That helps! I never had to use a park stroller and couldnt recall what they look like from seeing them in the parks.

here's a link to the page about strollers from allearsnet.com. It has pictures of the strollers so you can see what they are like. The picture from the Studios shows a jogging stroller, but people have posted recently that the Studio now has the same strollers as the other parks.

Many people who have children with autism say their kids really like the WDW strollers. The side panels cut down on stimulation from the sides and it is possible to throw a light blanket or sheet over the whole top to cut down even more. Also, the strollers are made of a firm plastic that many people with autism find very very comforting to sit on (it's similar to Little Tike products).

If you follow my signature to the disABILITIES forum, we have a lot of posters with questions/tips about taking a child with autism to WDW.

And, for the future, you can probably get a special needs stroller for her paid by your insurance. Even if she can walk, children with autism often need a stroller past the size of regular strollers for safety and security when going out to places like shopping, etc. I can give you more information if you like after your trip since you will obviously not have time to pursue it before you go.

She does have a stroller lot larger however to accommodate her provided by Easter Seals and the hospital where she has therapy, however since we are driving this time we opted for the lightweight. Plus she likes that it is PINK.
She has sensory issues and since the parks strollers are plastic that will be a no go, especially if she wants a nap. Plus it will be a hassle trying to pad it just right. Thanks for the photo link.
I am headed to Babies R Us to do some shopping for one similar. I called and they do not have ours, but one similar in color, etc which will minimize her screaming until she gets used to it. Usually a day or 2.

You might want to check them out anyway if you can't find anything. A lot of people who thought their child would not like the plastic because of sensory issues found they actually did like it because it gives firm pressure while sitting in it.

Also, if you want a special needs stroller, but don't want to bring yours with, there are some places that rent them. There is a list in the disABILITIES FAQs thread.

You could probably buy one cheaper than what you will rent one in the parks for..those buggers are COSTLY!!!

Try a consignment shop, or if you have a FREECYCLE in your area ask if anyone has one on there.

I'm hitting a resale shop.
Our craigslist is not very good. People want new prices for old stuff.
Our freecycle is usually junk (not just strollers).

Compared to other Freecycle and Craigslist postings in other cities near us, we just dont measure up.

If not I did the math even with the offsite rental, and I will just purchase a new/used from a resale or babies r us.

If the problem is the axle, call a lawnmower repair shop. If you can find one with a bit of imagination, they would probably be able to replace the axle for you. A lawnmover axle should be about the right size for a stroller, and the assemblies are similar. Just tell them what you told us; that the child has difficulty adjusting to new things, and that she is REALLY attached to it, and that it would be great help if someone could try to repair it. Most folks who like to fix things cannot resist this sort of challenge.

do you live near a babiesrus I would consider stopping there and getting one if they have it in stock it might be priced more than walmart but you don't have to wait for it to be shipped or pay the shipping costs.

What about seeing if the Babies R Us closest to WDW has one in stock? Since you are driving anyway maybe it wouldn't be such a big deal to stop by for it? If you speak with a manager it might be possible to have them deliver it for you.

I hope it all turns out OK for you guys, Good luck.

Dou you live near a toys R Us or Babies R us?
I just go one there that was 40 bucks for our trip. A little nicer than an umbrella one, but no so bulky as the big ones and much lighter too.
Here is a link to one similar to what I got.
It has alot of bad reviews. I only bought it for the trip, so I guess we'll see. I have noticed that it is stiff and was not easy to fold down.
My DD likes to sit in it to watch TV though since I put it together.
