Our September 2011 Pre-Trip Adventure!! (Update 09/29/2011 - Link to TR!)

Pinocchio is definitely one of the classics, When You Wish Upon a Star is so iconic. Love the Blue Fairy too, she's so pretty :cutie:

It definitely is a classic Stefy. You should have seen my reaction when Wish Upon a Star started playing - I just felt so warm and fuzzy, lol!!

The blue fairy is pretty and it also played a reminder in to wish upon a star when I see one! ;)

Hi everyone! Hope you all enjoying the weekend – it sure goes pretty fast!! Can you believe it is already mid-May!! Yay September will be here before we know it! :rotfl: 121 days to go - bring on the double digits!!

Back to our trip details and I was printing our flight details this week and realised that I still have not updated this PTR with the new details! Better late then never, right? ;)

Most of you are already aware that we will not be flying with Delta or getting the ME bus once we reach Orlando – I am sad to miss out on this experience :sad2:

Instead we will be flying with Monarch Airlines.

Has anyone travelled long haul with this flight and if so how did you find it? I have researched it on the net and have read mixed reviews.

However, one thing that bothers me is that there are no personal tvs on the back of the seats – I just found this out two days ago. I blame my impulsive side that always rushes in to decision making and then regrets it afterwards!! I have emailed the company to make sure this is the case and am waiting on details.

The time difference also plays tricks on us! On the journey to Disney World we leave at 8.30 and reach Sanford at 13.05. Yay for it seeming like we are arriving earlier then we actually are!! I’m sure the jetlag will kick in at some point during our trip.

home-map.jpg

However, our flight back leaves at 15.05 (as we will not be using ME am hoping that we will be able to spend a little bit longer at Epcot on our leaving day) and does not arrive until 5.15am the next day :scared1:

I have printed Disney related word searches from the Internet (which I love doing) and will be using them, my books and music to keep me going for the long journey.

Question of the week: What do you like to do on your journey to/from Disney World?

Coming next: Fun and games at Pop Century Resort!

The last time we flew to Scotland to see our family I found the jetlag never set in until the trip home...I think we were so excited to get there that I never noticed...but we arrived home on a Sunday and I was back to work on the Monday and by 2 in the afternoon I could have put my head on my desk and been out like a light!

We are flying United this time to MCO and they don't have seat back TV's either. Air Canada and Westjet both do but we didn't have them with Delta last year either. Both Jasmine and I took our Ipod's and watched what we had downloaded and when we got sleepy (early morning flights will do that) we changed to music and had a little nap! The good thing for us though is we get a break half way thru.....Winnipeg to Chicago is 2 hour flight and then Chicago to Orlando is 2 hours....so we've got it pretty good!!

We're used to early morning landings on the way home, but they are actually not bad. We get the 6-7pm flight from MCO and land at LGW around 6-8am. By the time we get home we can actually go to sleep and wake up before midday which helps with the jetlag. I would do just that as soon as you land, trust me it really helps :)

When flying I tend to listen to my music and do stuff on my iPad. Last year I caught up on my Gossip Girls episodes, watched a couple of films and listened to some music.

My DD and I watched Pinocciho last night just because of you:thumbsup2 She hadn't see it and I forgot we even had it. She liked it, and when I heard " When you wish upon a Star" I really had DWD withdrawals:lmao:

We are lucky when we fly. It's a two and a half hour trip. I usually just read or watch whatever movie Kadence is watching.

Aww, that's too bad you won't get to experience the ME! Although, I can't really talk, I've never done it either, we always rent a car and drive to WDW from the airport!

I've flown from NY to England once, and I have to say, the flight was SO boring! This was a while ago though, before everyone had Kindles and Ipads and laptops...I think if you have something fun like that, the flight should go by quickly! I'm hoping to buy a laptop before I go in September, so I can watch a Disney movie on the way down! I also really want a Kindle...Also, try to sleep on the flight! That will pass the time! :upsidedow

Only 121 days for you? That's amazing!! :dance3: I'm SO ready to be in double digits, I swear, once you hit 99 days, time seems to go by pretty quickly! I'm at 138 days now...ugh! :rotfl: It seemed like the 140's took forever!

Question of the week: What do you like to do on your journey to/from Disney World?

SLEEP.

:lmao:

We drive to/from WDW. It takes about 10 hours or so, factoring in stops for breakfast and lunch. I can't help it, being in a car lulls me to sleep! I'm usually napping within 30 minutes of our departure.

Question of the week: What do you like to do on your journey to/from Disney World?

On the way there, when it's not my turn to drive... I will probably be reading over my plans and my disney guide books!!! (and if I'm lucky I'll take a nap sometime too!) On the way back... Writing in my journal, and I'm sure we will spend a lot of time just talking about the trip and maybe planning the next one!! (I can hope so anyway hahaha) :goodvibes

Question of the week: What do you like to do on your journey to/from Disney World?

Coming next: Fun and games at Pop Century Resort!

I listen to WDW podcasts!!! I can only read if I have already started a book and am interested in it. I have a hard time getting interested when I have too many distractions. I like to read magazines because they don't take focus. I also sleep if I can..put on my AK music to help me zone out if my girls are occupied. Otherwise, I end up playing cards or other games with them.

When we drive, I color in the states for the license plate game!

That's good to hear - hopefully we will be able to say the same thing! Wow at going back into work on Monday after a long flight on Sunday :worship: - I would never be able to do that. On the one occasion I have gone back to work straight after a long flight I have regretted it and learnt my lesson. I now aim to have at least one day to recover!

I like the seat back TVs and this is the first time we will not have them - at least I have my laptop and phone to keep me going with movies and music. I was under the impression most Delta flights had them in but maybe it's just the long haul flights that have them. I will definitely be doing some sleeping at some point and yes would appreciate a break in between - you sure have it good! Oh well I will just have to stretch my legs on the flight instead!!

Ooh am glad to read that they are not bad - have never arrived in the UK so early in the morning so am not sure how my body will react! I will definitely follow the advice of getting some sleep as soon as we arrive back home :)

I will definitely be listening to my music and maybe watch some last minute Disney movies. I love GG - that reminds me that I need to catch up with this weeks episode as it is the finale on Wednesday! I think Ed Westwick is great and it is even better that he is from London! :thumbsup2

My DD and I watched Pinocciho last night just because of you:thumbsup2 She hadn't see it and I forgot we even had it. She liked it, and when I heard " When you wish upon a Star" I really had DWD withdrawals:lmao:

Hahaha I'm glad I inspired you guys to watch it! :thumbsup2 Yay on her liking it and when you hear 'When you wish upon a star' the first thing that comes into my mind is Wishes and I haven't even seen it yet! So, I can't even imagine how you felt...not long until September, lol!! :lmao:

I'm looking forward to watching the next movie - will not give it away but I may be able to actually create some food to go with it!!

Yes you are lucky - I would love to be able to arrive in Disney World in two and a half hours!

I know, it's the one thing that I was a bit sad about! Lol, I don't feel too bad now after hearing that you guys have never used it as well!! We're scared to rent a car due to the driver being on the opposite side and getting lost. I get lost in Manchester so I don't even want to think about driving in unknown territory!! :lmao:

Yep, a flight would be boring without any form of entertainment though am hoping we will be okay with our laptop. I didn't really want to take it as we will be unable to use it in Disney World but I'm not sitting through an 8 hour flight doing absolutely nothing!! I would recommend getting a laptop - I love ours and the freedom of being able to use it from anywhere. I want to buy a new gadget - maybe a kindle or ipad but will have to wait for a bit longer. Oh, I will definitely be sleeping especially as I will be sleep deprived the night before from all the excitement of looking forward to our trip!! :wizard:

Oh don't worry I will be getting lots of sleep (though I know people that can't actually sleep during a flight :confused3), especially as I will be panicking the night before so doubt I will have had much sleep before our flight! :thumbsup2

I would love to be able to drive to WDW especially as you can make lots of stops. Lol at napping that early on into your journey - I hope the kiddos don't wake you.

I will be carrying my planning binder so will probably look through that on numerous occasions and still worry that I have forgotten to do something! :confused3

I am hoping to write in my journal as I go along but will def read through it and add things on the journey back - if I am not too tired out by then! Hmm planning the next one sounds good - like you said one can dream ;)

There's nothing like listening to the podcasts to get you into the mood for a WDW trip. I love reading but I know what you mean about finding it hard to get stuck into one with all the distractions! I always buy some magazines/puzzle books at the airport before boarding our flight to keep me occupied :thumbsup2 I was thinking that travelling with the girls must keep you occupied as well - I know when I travel with my sister she keeps me busy and that makes the time pass.

Lol, I love the sound of the license plate game!

No, it's usually my DH who wakes me up, LOL! Either accidentally, 'cause he's turned up the radio... or on purpose, because he's bored and wants someone to talk to! :rotfl:

Honestly that is the best thing to do when you get home. I used to think it was a drag arriving home so early, but I guess you can just treat it as if you have been out clubbing the night before and are just getting in  Don't oversleep though, you want to try and get back to normal as soon as. DF once slept til 2pm instead of midday and he wasn't the happiest of bunnies for the rest of the day.

I love GG and was quite shocked when I saw Ed in Son of Rambo all cockney accent and everything  Can't believe last week's ep ending I hope Blair will be ok.

LOL that is funny!! That reminds me of my mum and dad when we used to travel by car - we would all be snoozing and my dad would get bored and want someone to talk to him. He, therefore, either used to open all the windows so we would wake up from being too cold or blast the radio!! They sure know how to get their own way! :rotfl:

I know, when I read to sleep I was like will I really want to do that after arriving home. However, the more I think about it the more it seems like a sensible thing to do :thumbsup2 I didn't think about it as being out all night and coming in about 3am or later! I will remember to think of it in that way. Right you are - I don't want to be grouchy on the first day back though you never know the Disney blues and lack of sleep may mean I have no control over the way I feel! :rotfl:

Yep, the first time I heard the cockney accent I was shocked as well!! You just expect him to speak like he does on GG. I know - it seems that everytime Chuck and Blair try and get together something gets in the way. I sure hope it all works out. I'm expecting they will leave it at a cliffhanger as there is another series to come ;)

When I fly trans-Atlantic, I just try to sleep. Maybe you can try seeing if your doctor would be willing to write a small prescription for sleeping pills? I've used Ambien in the past and while it's not a great quality sleep, it definitely helps with the jetlag and makes the time go by much quicker! It sucks when you have a long flight and they don't have the personal tv's in the headrest!

When I go to Disney, I only have a 4 hour drive. I like to listen to the WDW Today Podcast while I drive, and alternative with music. :thumbsup2

I *try* to relax on the flight down to Orlando, but I inevitably spend the majority of the time checking my documents again and again to make sure we have everything. My DH puts his headphones on and reads.:goodvibes

Thankfully IAD to MCO isn't that long, about 2 hours. I cannot imagine what the transatlantic flights are like, though it seems I'm going to find out next August! We're heading to Scotland with DH's parents! :cool1: I'm hoping to extend the trip a few days so we can spend some time in London as well!:yay:

Congrats on your airline booking. I'm sorry you're not having a t.v. to watch.
Sleeping is what I like to do on our trips to/from WDW!

Thanks for the advice Abby! :thumbsup2 I will definitely look into the sleeping pills but am not sure if my doctor will prescribe them and also having never had the need to use them I'm not sure what effect they will have on my body. Do they have any side effects etc? I will have a look online and see what information I can find.

It sure does suck not having personal tv's in the headrest on a long haul flight! Oh well, I hope we can keep ourselves entertained for 8 hours!!

I think I will be the same as you - making sure I have everything and still panicking that I have forgotten something behind! I don't know why I do this because it's not as if I can go back and get anything that has been left behind :confused3 Yep, Zaheer also enjoys his headphones and listening to music or catching up with tv programmes.

Wow 2 hours is not long at all! That is cool that you are going to Scotland and then visiting London as well!! :cool1: Just make sure you are prepared for the cold weather - the rain has returned in Manchester, lol! I have been on 8 hour flights before and they have not been too bad, but I have had the personalised tv screens in the seats. This is the first trip where we will not have this so it will be a new experience for us.

Congrats on your airline booking. I'm sorry you're not having a t.v. to watch.
Sleeping is what I like to do on our trips to/from WDW!

Thank you Amy :goodvibes I know, I'm a bit gutted about that but it'll be part of the new experience for us!

Yes, sleeping will be high on my list of things to do as well!

Hi everyone! This is my 1000th post on these boards!! :dance3: It feels like only yesterday that I joined - can't believe it has already been 9 months!! I love these boards, meeting new people and hearing new things about Disney World!!

I'm not sure if the post number updates on your own thread - I suppose I will find out in a minute. I hope it works :wizard:

Edit: Yay it worked...so happy!! :)

I'm sorry you're going to miss out on ME! I have never done it either. We usually drive to Disney, but when we fly we always rent a car at the airport.

In response to your question, I usually entertain myself in the car with reading and now that I have a portable DVD player I watch DVDs! I like to read my Disney planning books and watch my Disney World DVDs to get myself pumped for the trip! :goodvibes

Yay, I can't believe it is 121 days either - time is going by very fast at the minute and I am definitely not complaining!! I can't wait to hit 99 days! I'm sure it will be here soon for you guys as well. I want your trip to arrive but at the same time that will mean we will be back from our trip

I am definitely getting a laptop before my trip, I just don't know anything about them, so I'm having a hard time picking one out! I found a really nice purple one for a decent price, but...I don't know if I should buy a laptop just because it's purple! I'm going to be so happy to actually have something to do on the flight down, because my DH just puts in his headphones and sleeps, and I nag him the whole time and bother him, about every little noise the plane makes, and ask him "are we there yet" like some 5 year old! :rotfl: I just want to play the Sims on the way down and get there!

I can't wait to be under 100 days! Soon!!! When I booked this trip, I was in the 260's, I think, so time is going by! Although, you're right, I don't want it to get here too quickly, because then it will be over!

I *try* to relax on the flight down to Orlando, but I inevitably spend the majority of the time checking my documents again and again to make sure we have everything. My DH puts his headphones on and reads.:goodvibes

Oh, I hope you can do a few days in London, it's such an amazing city! :lovestruc When I went there years ago, I came home and cried for like, a month because I wanted to go back, I felt so at home there! It does rain a lot, though...at least, it did when I was there! :rotfl:
