Our Seemingly Silly Semi-Illogical Four Day Whirlwind Trip

Move over, Maelstrom!!! Kay's description will make El Rio de Tiempo a FASTPASS for sure!!!!!!!!!!

HELLO, EVERYBODY! THANKS FOR STOPPING BY AGAIN! :yay:

I have read up through Part 6 now .... and LOL at a few things:

-- Time Dilation Effect theory
-- People getting worked up over getting the wrong size waffles. Are you not going to cut them up and eat them anyway??? Sheesh! But it worked out for you
-- The search for luggage in your mansion. Trust me, the search wouldn't be necessary at WL either!

And more, but I'm too lazy to go back. I'd rather keep reading.

:wave2: kpk89: I’m so glad you’re enjoying it, and as much as I love receiving comments about parts people like, your comment that you’d rather just keep reading was a very nice compliment.

Hi Kay:wave2:

Another great installment. You described Mexico well, Disney's and the real one.

:wave2: NAB: We loved Mexico, but there are many funny and annoying things about their tourist areas, which I suppose can be said of many other countries, too.

LOL Fantastic Kay.
I love the bit about the dancing dolls, after experiencing "Its a Small World" for the first time DH renamed it "The Village of The Dammed Ride". On our return trip to WDW with DD #1 we managed to side step this ride, as you may already be aware you do not argue with a grumpy Glaswiegan ranting about demon dolls!! Unfortunately on hearing that we are returning this year with a new DD in tow, DD #1 piped up "you know Niamh will just love It's a Small World!!!!". DH was seen to weep quietly in the corner...

Keep the laughter coming you're brightening up some pretty "dreich" Scottish weather...thanks so much

:wave2: 2ScottishPrincesses: You will probably need to endure It’s a Small world for the sake of your little girl, but mercifully, el Rio del Tiempo will be renovated by then, so I don’t think you’ll find any demon dolls there! As for IASW, buy some industrial earplugs, or wear headphones and play some other very loud music as you ride through.

What a visual! Ha! Glad to hear Lowell isn't always the underDOG when it comes to swimming.

:wave2: iluvsushi: He is much better at snorkeling than I am. I always go through an initial panicky stage of not being able to breathe through my nose. It’s weird to have to breathe through your mouth all the time. After a few minutes, I’m OK with it.

I was in Costa Maya and tried to haggle - me and Ben even did the "If you won't give it to us for 20, we're leaving bit" and left.
Only to find no one else had snorkels.
:(
We eventually succumbed to his stupid price.
I was so mad. Maybe next time I'll take Lowell and not Ben.
Great installment!

Did you know they let you take beer on the ride? It's become me and my sister's new tradition.
Also, at Les Chefs De France, they don't care if you bring an alcoholic beverage in with you - as the waiter said, it's France after all.
Is it wrong if drinking around the world is my favorite ride in Epcot?

:wave2: celerystalker: Too bad you had to cave in and buy an overpriced snorkel, but at least you didn’t miss out on enjoying a swim. I am not a very good haggler, so I leave the bargaining to Lowell.

Drinking your way around the world is fine, as long as you don’t partake in too much “brain cell euthanasia!” ;)

You mean "HOLA MI AMIGOS, LA LA LA LA LA LA! SOMETHING SOMETHING SOMETHING, FA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA, LA LA LA LA LA LA...." I LOVE that song!

A couple years ago I embarrassed my travel partner by downing a fiesta margarita and then hopping on the ride with him....when we went into the dancing dolls room I burst into song (which I’m sure was a real treat for our fellow passengers, especially since I obviously don't know any of the words) :rotfl:

Kay, thanks for taking me on my very favorite WS ride (well, there are only two)! Your memory is phenomenal.

:wave2: I can see you’re going to miss the song! Maybe they’ll ditch the dolls and the dated video clips, but keep the music. We’ll see. You had me laughing at trying to sing the song without knowing the words! Don’t be embarrassed, remember “Silly people have more fun!” As for my memory. I cannot tell a lie. I watched a google video clip of the ride and took notes to refresh my memory and get the order right.

Roughly one hundred years ago, when I was young and foolish and very blonde, I went to Tijuana with my pal, Carl and my sister for a day trip. I lived in San Diego at the time. I had my hair up in one of those very 80's banana clippy things, so I had a big blonde pony tail. As we walked down the street, I heard a shouts from behind us, "Hey, big spenders! Come on over here. Hey, BARBIE!" Barbie? I'm sure he was referring to my incredible figure, not merely the blonde pony tail. :rotfl2:

I'm really sorry we missed El Rio del Tijuana last time. I'll move it to the top of our "must do" list for next time!:thumbsup2

:wave2: Barbie: ooops, I mean bunnysmum. You know, of course, I will never let you live this story down! Next time you go to Epcot, el Rio del Tijuana will be revamped. I hope it will be more up-to-date and entertaining. Please Imagineers, NO dancing dolls!

Kay7979,
I love your trip report! It's almost like being there.:yay: Yes, I am a Small World fan. I fear I was brainwashed when I was just 4 years old.

:wave2: SmallWorld71: I would never have guessed you are a Small World fan! I’m glad you are enjoying my trip story. You’re a good person, I can tell, even though you support doll abuse. ;)

Kay - I'm here - just to let you know.
And will enjoy it soon :thumbsup2

:wave2: Yzma and Kronk: Thanks for coming over to read my story. You are reader # 109. Not that I would be so obsessive as to continue to keep on counting. I hope you will enjoy my report. Otherwise, I’ll be obligated to give you your money back per my money back guarantee!

Kay, you just reinforced the reasons why I have not been on this ride for YEARS!

Looking forward to your Maelstrom segment.

:wave2: Minnie_Moo: I hate to say it, but this ride really needed the wrecking ball. It was marginally enjoyable, but it could be SO much better. I hope they come up with something that better showcases all the great things about Mexico.

You take me away from this cold and snowy day.:rotfl2:

:wave2: natcat: Thanks. And thanks for letting me know you’re still out there reading. I really appreciate that.

Move over, Maelstrom!!! Kay's description will make El Rio de Tiempo a FASTPASS for sure!!!!!!!!!!

:wave2: tiggerbell: I’m afraid my description made it a Fast Pass-it-by! But never fear, the new ride can only be an improvement!

DING!!!!!!!!!

We walk inside the dimly lit interior. Vendor stalls sprawl across the floor. Craftsmen sell a wondrous assortment of colorful native wood carvings, pottery, jewelry and other goods. I’m amazed at all the tempting merchandise here. Thank goodness we’re missing the “shopping gene.”

Amen, sister!

The last time we ate at a waterfront restaurant in Mexico, they had a resident alligator who hung around waiting for handouts. If the food at the San Angel Inn is anything like my dinner at Whispering Canyon, an alligator could come in handy here. One toss, a few moments of thrashing, and dry pork chops would be but a bad memory. You’d need to be seated right next to the river, though. It’s bad manners to lob tough meat or soggy nachos over people’s heads.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

El Rio del Tiempo is the River of Time in more ways than the attraction designers intended. The River of Time has moved on, leaving this attraction in need of refurbishment. No changes have been made since it was constructed in the 1970s. In a few weeks this attraction will be closed while it undergoes renovation. This is our last chance to memorize the current version so we can appreciate the changes.

I should go over for lunch one day before they change it....

Alas, beach and marketplace vendors were nothing compared to Mexican Timeshare hawkers. Disney ought to set up shop for DVC in Mexico and promote their “Best Kept Secret” of vacation ownership there. I’m sure they would be more discrete. Timeshare reps literally chased us down the street, begging us to preview their resorts. They promised us Tequila, Kahlua, serapes, boat trips, even $100 cash for our time.

Some 30 years ago, DH and I went to a timeshare presentation in Daytona. They promised us a big TV in exchange for 2 hours of time. It turned out to be a plastic screen you clipped in front of your own :lmao: Totally useless, of course....

The renovated ride can only be an improvement, whatever it is.

I worked in Epcot 12 years ago, and it was on the list for an update then, along with the China and Canada movies.

Who knows, maybe in another 10 years, those will be updated too.

Great episode again, Kay!!!!!!! You are a funny lady.

Kay, there is no need to be formal, everybody just calls her YAK. She is one of our lovely Canucks, and writes a pretty good TR herself;)

Well, Kay, I'm all caught up. And since I read about four installments at one time, there will be no quoting. Although there were many things I would have liked to quote.

But I so enjoyed each installment. And since we are staying at WL in May, you helped make my decision for eating at WCC on arrival night. We won't be doing it. The pork chop description was just too vivid. I'm trying to "wow" my parents who've never been to Disney. Something tells me that won't do it.

Maybe we'll just go to Epcot and ride El Rio de Tiempo instead.

You have a great writing style, Kay. And I've enjoyed getting caught up on your TR this Saturday afternoon!!

Keep it comin'!!

:wave2: Backstage_Gal: I would love to know what the procedure is for creating a new ride or entertainment program. I wonder who creates the idea, and how many people have to approve it. Maybe it’s a “design by committee” and they’ve been fighting over the new update for the last ten years!

:thumbsup2 Another very entertaining installment Kay!!

:wave2: TigerKat. Thanks so much. You are one of my most faithful readers!

:wave2: Joe. Okay, you can be Joe and not jw50, and she can be YAK instead of that other name that appears to be a dual personage. But her name is KAY backwards, which is kind of scary. I think of Zzub being Buzz spelled backwards because Buzz is his favorite character. I don’t think YAK would consider me her favorite character! ;) Although I am a character, of sorts, or so I’ve been told! BTW, YAK, I read your report during the fall. It was a fun report. :thumbsup2

:wave2: nicolemarie: Thanks, NM. I value your opinion as I have been enjoying your report as well. You could take your parents to Artist Point rather than Whispering Canyon for a more upscale dining experience. WCC is a lot of fun, but the food is so-so.

AND NOW I HAVE A HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT FOR YOU ALL WHILE I’M AWAY ON VACATION THIS WEEK. If you enjoy my “story” style of writing, and have some free time to read, please stop by and enjoy the report by bunnysmum. She has an engaging writing style that will pull you in and keep you smiling the whole time you're reading. I don’t think she has nearly the readership she deserves. Do yourselves a favor and go say hello to bunnysmum! I've even provided a link below to take you straight to her report. :goodvibes

Packing made me think of a couple of "stars" in this trip report: The main star, The Tweed Bag, and co-star The Wallet on a string. Here are some photos to make the story more real. And while I'm at it, in supporting roles are Lowell and Yours Truly. I have one photo each of Lowell and me. I hadn't planned to include these photos until the part of the report when they were taken, which is of course at the Grand Floridian for Lowell and the Contemporary for me. I have a close-up of Lowell later at HDDR, but no close ups of me. I'm like a fine oil painting: I look best at a distance! :lmao:

Kay, why are you posting a 20 year old pic of yourself?:confused3;)

It's great to actually "see" you and Lowell, Kay! I have to "third" Joe and Marita's comments.

Have a funtastic trip!!!

Off to visit bunnysmum's TR . . .

Kay,

I described Bunnysmum's wonderful trip report as a story...Yours is a novella! Fantastic! I think if someone were very smart, they would take these stories and put them in a book! I would be the first to buy a copy!!!

I love love LOVE reading your humerous descriptions of everything! The suspense! The triumph!

And yes, now that stupid Mexico song is stuck in my head. It started the moment you boarded El Rio... I wonder if I can run to the bar right now (12:30 AM) in my pink flannel nightgown to get a Margarita...

I can't wait for the next installment!!!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

The renovated ride can only be an improvement, whatever it is. Maybe they’ll incorporate the beach vendor theme into the remodeled version of El Rio Del Tiempo. Near the start of the trip, female Cast Members run alongside the boats offering hair braiding services to the women. Farther up-river other CMs chase the boats holding out silver bracelets of dubious silver content as they call, “How many, please; how many do you want?” A bit farther along, vendors halt the boats to show passengers colorful serape blankets. And at the end, more vendors greet passengers with similar goods at cheaper prices. As people climb out of their boats, they pass a DVC booth. A salesman offers a bottle of Tequila and a serape to attend a presentation about their “Best Kept Secret.”

Throw in a Dole Whip and a few Fast Passes, and Lowell and I will probably sign up.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I loved the WHOLE thing, but these two parts had my husband asking "What's going on in there?"

Thanks for the "homework", BunnysMom's TR is a great read.

Hope you are having a great time!!!!

I agree with the others. Here I thought you were a gray haired lady....don't ask me why?:confused3

You are a cutie.....Hubby probably is too if I could see him...:rotfl: Did he make that house just for you.

PART TWENTY ONE:

The last time we ate at a waterfront restaurant in Mexico, they had a resident alligator who hung around waiting for handouts.
This is great, Kay! I've never been on El Rio de Whatever because I couldn't drag my DS7 on the "boring" boat ride. But if I tell him there MAY be an alligator to sling pork jerky leftovers to--he'd knock everyone down to get on it.

And, great pic of you! I'm holding a magnifying glass up to see Lowell, he's too far back there blending in with the gingerbread background. And the tweed bag! Yeah!

Have a safe trip...will be here waiting for more....:rolleyes1

Hope it's not too late to wish you a fun vacation! Yeah, okaaay, we'll do our homework while you're gone. I will check out Bunnysmom trippie for sure:thumbsup2

Loved your last chapter. Once again, I felt like I was right there with ya. It was actually the most fun I've ever had on that ride. Heh heh.

The pictures are great! The infamous tweed bag, a-ha! You and Lowell are a cute couple. It's so nice to put faces with the story.

Looking forward to the rest of your report. Hurry back!:)

:confused3 ..did i post on the other site?

oh well, it's probably old age creeping up on me, again :lmao:
