Our Seemingly Silly Semi-Illogical Four Day Whirlwind Trip

I stumbled upon your TR yesterday afternoon and have not stopped laughing since, your writing is amazing !!! I love your honesty and humor, I read the service announcement to my husband and he :rotfl2: I spent my Saturday afternoon in my jammies, with a cup of coffee reading it. This has been the best way to spend a snowed in weekend in a long time. Thanks so much !!!

Love the trip re... um, story!! You certainly have a wonderful way with words. So glad your wonderful world is Disney filled!

We also live in an area where dodging animals to avoid road-kill is a way of life.
I read your version of Test Track to my 2 kids and they agree that throwing a few furry creatures in the way would really mix it up(and no, I'm not referring to Chip and Dale!!!:rotfl2: )

Thanks for the entertainment...can't wait for more:cool1:

Hi Kay,

I'm upto part 6 but really have to stop reading... I was only meant to be taking a short break from studying and your Trip "Story" has me hooked... and giggling like a fool! I too enjoyed the chasm tale, and the refillable mug press release was hysterical.

I'll be back for the next installment real soon :)

What a way to leave us hanging - you are so good!! I too am dying to know what's in the tweed bag.....

Special K, you're doing a terrific job writing, gonna have to work on catching up. :goodvibes
Ooh, ooh, pick me, pick me.

:wave2: Hi, Nebo. Are you caught up yet? Thanks for coming over to check out The Lucky Fourteen’s madness. And I’d be honored to have you and Horshack as groupies!

Just "found" you and read through all 8 pages.
Looking forward to your next installment funny lady:rotfl:
Can not believe only on day 1.5 of 4 days ......and wish you had gone for 7 so the TR never ends.........

:wave2: Welcome!!!! Thanks so much for the compliment. I’m not sure you realize the full truth of your statement. I can turn 4 days into an epic so it’s entirely possible that 7 days would result in a trip report that is virtually endless!”

I've been reading your TR out loud to my husband -- we're both loving it, and anxiously waiting for the next installment! :thumbsup2

:wave2: Hello! Another new reader, I’m so excited! I only read the trip reports I like best to Lowell, so the fact that you are sharing mine with your husband sounds like high praise. Thanks!

Tell us what's in the tweed bag, woman!! Is it a woodchuck? A refillable mug that you're going to smuggle in to the WL?:confused3

Thanks for more laughs!!

:wave2: I’m afraid you will have to wait for another two or three episodes to find out, but it will give you something to look forward to!

:wave2: Wow! I am more touched and honored than I can express. I’m delighted that you had an enjoyable weekend reading my humble trip report. Being able to please and entertain others is a great feeling.

:wave2: I think I am hitting the jackpot of new readers today. Welcome! You read my Test Track episode to your kids? That is SO neat! I’m glad to hear you all enjoyed my warped sense of humor.

:wave2: Hello and thanks so much for taking the time to tell me you are enjoying my report. I hope you like the next six segments as much as the first. It’s great that you and so many other new readers showed up this weekend. What a boost to my morale! And I really needed that right now. Sometimes I feel I am only writing for a faithful few, and I get a bit down because it’s nice to be “discovered” and have more people following my report. I put a lot of effort into each segment, fine-tuning and polishing before I post. So thanks again for the kind words and stick around for more of our seemingly silly semi-illogical trip.

What a way to leave us hanging - you are so good!! I too am dying to know what's in the tweed bag.....

:wave2: And speaking of my faithful readers, there you are! You’ll have to wait a while longer to find out, but I’ll try to keep you laughing and entertained so the wait seems to go by quickly.

PART THIRTEEN:

Trip Report DISclaimer:

Warning: Dry Sense of Humor Alert:

This tongue-in-cheek episode includes truths, half-truths, and gross exaggerations. If you have experienced Epcot’s Finding Nemo attraction, the following account should be funny. If you have never experienced Finding Nemo, the following account should be amusing. If you have no desire to experience Finding Nemo, and dislike both Disney rides and fish, you should skip over this ride review altogether and go watch something dull on television instead.

**********************************************************

The winding switchbacks you walk through on your way to the Nemo ride are amazingly diverse in scenery and theme, and amazingly long, so Disney must have high hopes for the popularity of this attraction. A sign should be posted at the entrance that tells the distance to the ride, and they should install milemarkers along the way. If you attached a steel cable to either end of the labyrinthine queue, and pulled the queue line straight, it would stretch from Epcot to Daytona Beach. In fact, we develop the theory after walking quite awhile that we are indeed somewhere along Daytona Beach. The scenery shows us walking along a shore, and as you may be aware, there is no ocean or beach in Orlando.

We pass sand dunes with clumps of grass as we walk along the boardwalk. There are no other vacationers in sight and we have the boardwalk to ourselves. I’m sure there are people ahead of us, but they are so far ahead that we can’t see or hear anyone, and when I look behind us, I see only scenery of beach, ocean and boardwalk.

Eventually we come to a lifeguard station. Unfortunately the lifeguard is mysteriously absent so we find no one to ask how many more miles until we reach the Clammobiles.

I look to my right. Ocean waves break just beyond the dunes, but it may be farther than it looks since I can’t hear the sound of waves. The sky is dark and it looks like the sun will be setting soon. A cool wind blows off the ocean which feels strangely similar to air-conditioning.

After walking a few more miles it occurs to me that we might need to stop for a picnic on the beach so we’ll have enough energy to reach the Nemo ride. There's no telling how much farther we have to go. I feel inside my pockets and find only one slightly crushed Nutri-grain bar and a baggie with leftover trail mix. I sigh with disappointment. It would make a meager picnic.

Then the scenery changes and we find ourselves under water without a snorkel. For a moment I panic, but somehow we’re still able to breathe, despite the fact that we’re walking along the bottom of the ocean. I reach out and run my hand along the submerged rusty iron railing that stretches before us. To the right I see the support legs of an old neglected pier. What else is down here? When we vacation I tend to pack a lot of useless items that I’ll probably never need, so there just may be a metal detector as well as sonar equipment in my TARDIS suitcase, but the suitcase is too far away to help us now. Lowell nudges me and points over my head. I glance up. What is this? A boat is anchored overhead. I stare in amazement as we walk beneath it. Fascinating. The surface of the water ripples gently as the boat drifts with the current.

The Mickey waffle I had for breakfast is a dim memory now, and my thoughts turn again to a picnic on that beach we passed a few miles back. An image of fried chicken and potato salad shimmers mockingly before me.

I’m walking much slower now, whether because I’m tired of walking and weak with hunger, or whether because of the added effort of walking under water, I am not sure.

Clinging to each other, we continue to struggle forward through the current, wondering if we will ever come to the end. If we perish here under the sea, we will never be able to help find Nemo. In fact, it is quite likely that Nemo has already been sent out to find US. I can see the faces of disappointed children as the announcement comes on, “Please remain seated in your Clammobiles. This ride will resume momentarily. Mr. Ray, Nemo, and class have gone in search of two missing tourists who were last seen struggling through the ride queue, two miles back.”

Eventually we emerge, haggard and shaken, in an area where a moving walkway leads to the Clammobiles. Disney can call off the search party now, we’re safe. Maybe I can walk far enough to reach the Clammobiles before I collapse.

“Come on, it’s only a little further.” Lowell takes my hand and pulls me gently toward the vehicles, murmuring soothing words of encouragement.

We step onto the walkway and are carried forward. As we prepare to board, the Cast Member in charge of loading the vehicles barely looks at us, and doesn’t notice our worn and bedraggled appearance as he asks, “How many in your party?”

“We are much too exhausted for a party,” I say tartly, “And there are two of us.”

We climb wearily into our clam shell which carries us off through a coral reef.

The story begins with Mr. Ray and his class on a field trip . . . which has now been rudely interrupted because they have heard that Lowell and I, and a few other straggling tourists, are lost in the vicinity of the rusty pier. They must swim away and find us.

Ahem.

OK, I admit this was not the official story line we were given, but the more I reflect on the circumstances, I believe that this is very close to the truth. No doubt Nemo and friends spend most of their days rescuing tourists and directing them toward the Clammobiles. Surely you can’t believe that Nemo wanders off and gets lost two hundred and seventy times a day. Every day. How ridiculous! Clearly Mr. Ray, along with Dory, Bruce, Marlin, Squirt and Crush are using the Nemo “wandering away” ploy as a cover story. They’re all in on it. The underwater scenes show our heroes as they make their daily rescue missions, searching for weary and disoriented tourists. Disney guests are told that Nemo is lost, and that his classmates are searching for him, and off everyone goes, following along in their Clammobiles, not suspecting the truth. What else could Disney do? The alternative would be to stop the ride every time Nemo and friends have to swim away to look for hapless travelers.

It really is a shame. If Disney had built a ride queue that didn’t take guests to the Clammobiles by way of Daytona Beach, they wouldn’t need this unimaginative cover story. They could have written an exciting plot filled with action and adventure. Now, they’re stuck with this Fish Tale of a perpetually lost Nemo.

**********************************************************

Episode addendum:

On a more serious note, this is a cute ride, and the queue area provides plenty to look at along the way as described here. The projection technology is interesting, showing the Nemo and friends characters projected against the aquarium walls, swimming among live coral and fish. The technology is not “slap you in the face impressive,” so you tend to take what you’re seeing for granted. I think that’s why many people say they enjoyed the ride but wouldn’t stand in a long line for it. Also, I admit I have never seen the movie, and if I were familiar with the characters and the plot, maybe I would have enjoyed the ride more, but the rather lame “lost fish storyline” seems like a waste of good technology and special effects. Couldn’t the Imagineers create a more interesting sequel utilizing the same characters? Once again, the creative side of me rebels and I find myself thinking, “Good grief, I could do better than that!” If you’ve ridden Finding Nemo, I’d be interested to hear what you thought of it.

I've been eager to get back to WDW to check out the Seas with Nemo and friends, but now thanks to you I feel like I already have. In fact I think the picture you have painted of your undersea adventure is so lovely, that I fear I will be disappointed when I actually do make it to Orlando next to help search for missing tourists...I mean, fishies. :fish:

FULL ON FUNNY! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: This one is at the top of the list for "favorite installment" from you. :thumbsup2

I'm too, am amazed at how long the queue is for this ride. Leave it to you though, to view it in the most imaginative and FUNNY way! I will never go through this queue again without thinking of you and your report........oh and bringing along a picnic lunch, as well. ;)

I don't get to post as much as others.......I'm a busy work-at-home mom with no extra time on my hands. But when I do have time to take a little lunch break at my desk, without actually working while I chew (which doesn't usuallyhappen), it never fails that I log on to the trip reports here....hoping that you've posted a new one since my last visit. There's nothing quite like ham and cheese with a side of laughs, ya know.

..."here to Daytona"........."perpetually lost fish"...... ..you're too much.

I haven't gone on this ride...but if it's anything like the NEMO MUSICAL at AK...i just as soon skip it. boring.

Well, I have finally gotten caught up with your trip story and may I just say Bravo!!!!!

You totally had me with the refillable mug program, and I also really enjoyed your seeing eye Pal Mickey that you posted on Nebo's report. Poor, poor, blind and broken Nebo!

Keep up the great work, can't wait to hear where you ended up at WL, you're such a risk taker waiting to check in. And also, what the heck is the "item that must not be named"???? I'm dying to find out and won't rest until I do, so please, continue on with your tale!!!

Just discovered your trip report this week. (I'm another one of those who spent an enjoyable snowed-in day reading!) I have a confession to make -- Although I'm a Disney character lover from childhood, I've never actually been to Disney Land or Disney World, but I still find these boards a fun read. Your trip report was one of the best things I've read ANYWHERE in a LONG time and even the little Disney "insider" details were pretty understandable -- a tribute to your clear writing and attention to details. I can't believe that you can remember all this stuff without taking any notes!

I love your humor! I was chuckling and laughing right out loud as I read (which I don't do often!) and there were a couple spots where the tears were streaming down my face so much that I couldn't see to read and had to go find the tissue box.

If you aren't a writer in real life, you certainly should be! Keep up the good work and please add me to your membership list of admiring "groupies."

Eagerly awaiting the next segment,
Iluvsushi

Yee Hah! I'm completely caught up! I found your trip report yesterday while at work (of course I was on my break!) and read more again last night and then again today!:cool1:

As the other posters have said, it's been a GREAT read!:rotfl: And I think with the high view count of your TR, I would say you've probably got a large amount of "lurkers" keeping track too, their just too shy to post.

Your doing a great job, keep up the good work!:thumbsup2

Ok, we all know what I will be thinking about while I am walking to my first ride on Nemo. I will try to find a good spot for a picnic:beach: and pass the info on to others who will be taking the journey.

Thanks! It's a compliment to who ever designed the ride queue that the scenery in the waiting line area is about as entertaining as the ride! I described very little of the ride itself, (only in the addendum section) so the description in this episode was all about the queue! It's very clever how the scenery transitions you from being above ground on the beach, walking along the ocean, to being under the sea looking at the surface of the water overhead. I wish I had taken pictures. This segment would really have come to life if you could see the ocean waves and the sunset on the beach painted on the walls, the lifeguard station, and all the other details.

By the time you get to the Clammobiles, you are already part of the sea life. The actual ride, while pleasant and amusing, falls short of some imagined ideal in my mind. Granted, they don't have much space or time for a complex plot as you travel along the aquarium during the ride, but the perpetually lost fish storyline just didn't (bad pun alert) :) HOOK me.

I'm glad you thought it was funny, and surprised to find that it was one of your favorite episodes. While I loved the irony of the endless walk through the queue, by way of Daytona to the Clammobiles, I was worried that my dry sense of humor was so dry that I left everyone else in a pile of dust. So maybe only you and I got the giggles over it, but I hope other people found it entertaining, at least.

:wave2: akrake:
I haven't seen the Nemo musical, but I think I've heard a few people say they liked it. Maybe most people found it a let down. If so, that's a shame, because Disney spent a lot of money on it, so they probably can't scrape it and replace it with something else anytime soon.

:wave2: Mumbler: I am tap-jogging with happiness at another new reader! Your name is very interesting and makes me wonder about the story behind it.

Well, I have finally gotten caught up with your trip story and may I just say Bravo!!!!!

Worse than not checking in early, WE DIDN'T MAKE ANY ROOM REQUEST! I had read the WL thread and gotten advice to request "a high floor on the north wing overlooking the otter pond." Then I read someone's post about a great room they got overlooking the lake, and I thought, Otter, smotter, maybe we'll get a cool lake view which would be better. Or maybe if I don't request anything at all we are even MORE likely to get an upgrade. Will my lack of a room request end badly? popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn:: OOOOHHHH NOOOOOOO more foreshaddowing and suspense!

As for the "item that must not be named" ssssssssshhhhhh! Didn't I tell you to forget I even said that? Try to focus on the fate of our room assignment so you can get your mind off it. Or maybe . . . no I was about to foreshaddow some additonal doom and drama to come, but that would be much too cruel.

Another new reader and a new member of the DIS. Welcome!

Just discovered your trip report this week. (I'm another one of those who spent an enjoyable snowed-in day reading!) I have a confession to make -- Although I'm a Disney character lover from childhood, I've never actually been to Disney Land or Disney World, but I still find these boards a fun read.

Yes, there is so much that's enjoyable here, from the trip report boards to the community board, for people who maintain their "inner child." I once heard a saying, "It's never too late to have a happy childhood." I like that saying. I hope you will continue to read and enjoy this report as well as many others.

Thanks so much! I am truly delighted to hear how much you enjoyed the report so far. Thanks for NOT lurking. As you can see, I really get excited over people reading my "story." This is the most fun I have had in ages, and I feel I am making a lot of new friends.

Wow, if that isn't the most perfect smiley icon for the occassion! That made me laugh! If you don't bring a lunch along, at least wear hiking gear and bring a canteen and a few provisions. In fact, some enterprising person should set up a concession stand on the beach along the way and earn some money to pay for their next vacation. :)

MORE (short term) FORESHADDOWING: I plan to post another spoof some time on Friday: "Magic My Way Tickets with Pool Hopper Option."

OK, I'm trying to focus on your room assignment at WL (oh the suspense!). I'm hoping to hear that you got the Presidential Otter Suite or something.

Loved your report on the Nemo ride. On our last trip it was not yet open, so I can only imagine what it's like. When I do go though, I'll be thinking about your description and giggling to myself.

Now.....what could be in the tweed bag, oops, I mean, what kind of room did you get?

Thanks once again for keeping us entertained!

Hi Kay, I have been meaning to read your report, I saw you on UMA's thread, and now on the Open Mike thread, and finally started reading it.

I must say, LOVE it! Very funny and entertaining, and I only finished part 4 tonight. Time for bed now though.

Looking forward to reading the rest of it.

A dry sense of humor and sarcasm are my favorite ! Remember, Frazier Krane's dry wit? (if you ever watched that show) That was my all-time favorite sit-com. I COMLETELY get it and LOVE it!:thumbsup2

Right now I'd say the "chasm of fire" and "pre-enjoyed mug" bits, along with this last installment are my favorites. Although, I've truly LOVED the whole sh'bang!

PART THIRTEEN AND ONE HALF:

Magic My Way Tickets with Pool Hopper Option

Disney World guests own the keys to a truly Magical World. Whether it’s theme parks, water parks, the Downtown Disney shopping complex, Pleasure Island night life opportunities, or dining at our casual and specialty restaurants, you’ll find many ways to share magical moments with your loved ones.

Coming soon, multi-day Magic My Way passes can be purchased with an additional option. For only five dollars per day, you can add the Pool Hopper Option, and enjoy the use of Disney World Resort’s wonderfully themed pools. With the Pool Hopper Option, you can walk into any resort, grab a towel, and make yourself at home. If you find towels reserving unoccupied lounge chairs, just chuck them into the shrubbery and claim the chairs for yourselves. If no unoccupied lounges are available, choose the ones you want, and demand the chairs for yourselves. The other guests have probably been there too long anyway. If loiterers refuse to relinquish their chairs, douse their resisting bodies with ice water obtained from the pool bar. This generally has the desired effect.

When you are ready for a dip in the pool, feel free to jump right in without showering first. We assume you have already showered this week, and we’re trying to conserve water.

Waterslides are for children of all ages. If you are able to climb to the top without the use of your walker, or support from nurse’s aides, you are young enough to slide. Many older people fear they look silly going down a water slide. This is not the case. Photos, taken by the hidden camera inside each waterslide, posted in our resort offices, have never once reduced Cast Members to crying, shaking, gasping fits of uncontrollable laughter. Your dignity is safe with us.

We have one request regarding swimwear: Disney celebrates and encourages the imagination, so please don’t wear swimwear that deprives us of the need for one.

Swim pants for infants and toddlers are recommended but not required. That’s what water filtration is for. Any floating material emitted by your child that is too large to be processed by the filters, however, should be removed to the pool decking and discarded at your convenience.

Please note the advisories posted beside our whirlpool spas. Hot water amplifies the effects of alcohol and certain drugs. If you are enjoying our spa in an Amplified State, loud laughing, shouting and singing is encouraged for the entertainment of other guests, but please desist after 3:00 AM.

Our spas contain an interesting and varied assortment of microorganisms for you to take with you when you go, but please be considerate and leave some for other guests.

Remember, outside food and beverages are not permitted. We have a large assortment of over-priced drinks and snacks for your enjoyment. There are no pool attendants to take your order, however, so be prepared to scrape your lazy butts off the lounge chairs and get your own.

Disney World is pleased to offer one more way to spend a magical day with our new Magic Your Way Tickets with Pool Hopper Option.

DISclaimer. Somewhere in the WL resort offices is a photo of me going down the waterslide.

I am really getting a kick out of your report. I'm so excited for our upcoming "whirlwind" visit. Loved your remarks about NYS road conditions! I'm from Rochester and can totally relate!
