Our Salesperson was Very High Pressure!

I agree, Randy was wonderful, and comletely no pressure.

Thanks for all the replys! I think that we will call and ask for a different person(like many of you suggested!) and if they ask why then I can tell them. I didn't even think of doing that, so I am glad for the suggestion!

I've heard that when people call to switch sales reps, that they sometimes get a manager who tries to "talk them out of it", and to give the original rep a second chance. This guy doesn't deserve that second chance, IMHO.

Just put your foot down and politely but firmly indicate that you would like a different sales rep. Good luck to you...and I'm sure that whoever you get assigned to next will be a pleasant and welcome change for you. :)

We first toured DVC back in '97 and had a terrible guide that all but slammed the door in our faces when we were trying to discuss the pros and cons of buying. Had it been someone else, we probably would have had seven years of "Welcome Home" under our belts now instead of trying to sneak in through the backdoor (resale). At the time, we had no idea our guide was not the norm and assumed DVC was high-pressure and therefore, not our cup of tea.

cindy I do think you need to tell them why. I know DVC recently took on 6 new sales staff and maybe this person is one of them, but unless you say the reason you want a change then it is unlikely that this person will become aware of the situation. It reflects badly, IMHO, on DVC if people get this type of experience and the only way DVC can "re-educate" their sales staff is if they become aware they have a problem.
As calypso says, people not in the "know" will think this is the norm and may be chased away from buying something that would suit them very well.

It actually took me quite a few years to buy. We first toured OKW in 1993. I was interested, but came to the conclusion at that time that I could still get better deals by cash. I still kept coming back to the idea. I looked at BWV when they were built...I liked them, but my Mom didn't. When they announced the possibility of Wilderness Lodge, I looked again, because that is where we had been staying. Over this period, my guide had been switched because the original left the company. The new guide was very pushy and tried to convince me to buy immediately instead of waiting. Anyway, I asked to have my guide switched and DVC did it with no problem. My new guide was wonderful and very patient. She never pushed or tried to convince me to do something I didn't want. I actually ended up buying BWV in 1998 and not waiting for WL. I started with 270 point, and now own 500.

Don't feel bad about asking for a new guide!

I agree with Vernon! We had an ugly experience (not DVC related) that we mentioned to one of our favorite CMs in the gift shop at the YC, & that woman took swift measures to correct the situation. We were a bit embarrassed at the fuss, but they basically said what Vernon just posted. It certainly makes a lot of sense b/c Disney works extremely hard at making every aspect of your vacation magical, including a timeshare presentation!

That said, we visited DVC twice, then went to an off-site place on a deal to check out their timeshare (Westgate VIllas). OMGosh, you never saw a family sprint so fast thru Orlando back to the DVC office. Our guide, Mary, was almost apologetic for the other place's behavior! We promptly purchased, & have never regretted it. Our kids still ask to go back just so they can go to the kid's room! Best wishes to you...Keep us posted! :D

Granny, just wanted to mention that this exact thing happened to me when i tried to switch guides last year. but i was very firm that i didn't want to deal with my old guide, so DVC did accommodate my request.

CindyBeth, i hope that you were able to get someone better!

We did all our sales via the phone and mail. In fact our sales person patiently waited several YEARS for us to buy with absolutely no high pressure. Her name is Michelle MacAlister at 1-800-827-7201. You will love her.
This is exactly the same experience we had with Michelle. She is also my DB & SIL's guide. If you lived in Seattle rather than Kansas, I'd suspect my SIL had finally stopped lurking and started posting.

You are too funny Mary Ellen! I'm glad you liked Michelle as much as we did. We have listed some great reps so there's no excuse to put up with a pushy one.
