Our Rockin' Trip to the World~February TR! UPDATE 5/15 ~ LINK TO PTR!!!!!!

Happy Belated Birthday!

Sorry to hear about all the real life drama going on. I hope everything works out soon.

Bummer about the house, but something that will be better for you will come along.

The Dismeet looks like such fun. I'm sure no one could have ever guessed it was the first time everyone had first met.

The BC and Cape May look beautiful.

Max looks adorable in all of the pictures. He looks like he had more fun with all of his new Dis friends and couldn't be bothered with Minnie.

Are you ready for the snow today? I really thought we were done for this year.

Tina, I am so sorry for all you are going through right now...it seems that everything has to hit at once, cannot come in dribs and drabs so we can deal with it easier. I hope your uncle is going to be ok.

Love the update...basically you were taking the words out of my mouth! As soon as I saw you I was like "Oh there my friend is!" I felt like I knew you forever!

We have go to get together again soon!

And Tom, LOVE the cake topper!

Hi Tina!

So sorry about everything that is going on in your life right now! I am sure that you can still find the house you want - and that your dad and uncle will be on the road to recovery pretty soon.

And like Nicki said - it was the same for us - as soon as we saw you all, it was like we had known each other for a long time. I am not usually feeling all relaxed among strangers, but when it came to Nicki and Todd, you, Mark and Max, it was easy sailing all the way!
I really hope that February vacations are in all our futures again (I really say HOPE, as I checked airfare yesterday and it is unbelieveably high for next February - don't think it will come down much, but I am hopeful! ;))

Okay, love the photos - esp. the one where Max is ignoring Minnie! :lmao: and the bouncing one is so cute too! I might have to print that one out and put it into my gallerie at school - love to have all my favourite little friends on my desk!

Thankfully it is Wednesday and we are halfway through the week - I need another weekend and another vacation! :rotfl2:

Tina...my prayers out to your uncle...my grandmother is currently in the hospital and I know the feeling...but isn't it nice to come to the Disboards and relive Disney memories....everything could be falling down around y ou but you can always find peace when planning a trip or even thinking about past trips and answering questions on disboards and you get my drift :)

btw, I've never stayed at Beach Club but when I went to eat at Cape May I was the same way...one of these days..

Love the update! Max is so cute jumpin up like that. I love that pic! How cool you all got to get together!!!:thumbsup2

Nice DISMeet! And what a fun idea to give them scarves!! Fabulous, I say!! Pashminas are our favorite! We could get them in Crapistan for about $5!!!

I think it's great you all hit it off so well, so quickly!

I'm sad that house didn't work out for you... we could of been neighbors! :goodvibes:

You can look a little father to the northwest and find me! ;)

Love your DIS meet!!!!! It seems like you guys has a great time at breakfast! I love the picture of Minnie holding Max's face and kissing him!

Did Max like his Mickey waffle? I could go for those right now!!!!! :goodvibes

Great updates! popcorn::

Sorry to hear about your real-life stress though  Hope things pick up soon

Great trip report so far! Just started reading today, and got all caught up... Can't wait to read more!

Looks like a really fun DISmeet. Beach Club is such a beautiful resort. And you got some more great pictures of Max with the characters. :thumbsup2

Believe it or not, I'm all caught up! Don't get excited, it won't last long. :lmao:

I am so sorry you've been having such a roller coaster lately.

A couple of comments on all that I missed.

Caramel. YUM! Jeff is a caramel freak and I can't wait to stock up on goodies to bring back for him in May.

Letting kids choose. It is overwhelming, even when they get older. I recall a day on our 09 trip where I had 3 kids taking turns saying "I don't know, what do YOU want to do". they were paralzyed. We've gotten better about "directing".

Iam :rotfl: about walking past Jordan and being paralyzed. Not that its funny but I would so do the same thing unless I really felt like I "knew" the person. I'm glad your meet went so well and love the pashminas, that's a fun idea :)

last but not least

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so sorry for being so late with replies... I've started them numerous times and then something else has happened and I've had to stop before I could post them! :headache: But I think things are calming down, even if we got some news we didn't want. My uncle had a stroke last weekend and it turns out it was caused by a brain tumor....more bad news a couple days ago when we found it the cancer is...well, pretty much everywhere. He's barely sixty. Its very sad... but we're still holding out hope that it could be treatable.

Billy Joel! These Are The Times To Remember.

Nice DISmeet!

I like the first picture of Max apparently ignoring Minnie. Also, the bouncing one. :thumbsup2

That's all you ate? You didn't get your money's worth -- good thing the company made up for it.

And another Sheen sighting! "Winner, winner, chicken dinner. No...winner, winner, Sheen dinner!"

Another point for you, Glen! And you're right...we didn't get our money's worth. I can't believe that's all I ate. I think Mark might have eaten more, but I didn't notice at the time. :lmao:

Tina, great update. I love the DIS pictures and Max getting kissed by Minnie. I wish I could have been there with all of you in person.

It was still awesome that I got to speak to you on the phone!!! Just knowing what your voice sounds like is cool!

Happy Belated Birthday!

Sorry to hear about all the real life drama going on. I hope everything works out soon.

Are you ready for the snow today? I really thought we were done for this year.

Thank you! Aren't you glad the snow really didn't happen? :rotfl: I am so over it!

I really didn't think the BC would do much for me, being from New England, but it was so pretty. I guess all the Deluxes are pretty nice and I probably wouldn't complain about staying in any of them!

Meeting everyone was amazing! It definitely didn't feel like the first time we'd met!

Tina, I am so sorry for all you are going through right now...it seems that everything has to hit at once, cannot come in dribs and drabs so we can deal with it easier. I hope your uncle is going to be ok.

We have go to get together again soon!

And Tom, LOVE the cake topper!

Thanks, Nicki! Isn't that cake topper HILLARIOUS??? :lmao: I know... its a cliche for a reason...when it rains, it pours. Unfortunately.

I would love to see you again soon, too... I know you're going to have a great visit with Kathy.

Hi Tina!

Hi, Karin! Take the photo, by all means. I'm actually back to thinking we might be headed for Florida in July. Doesn't look like we're moving anytime soon, so... Plus, I'm finding some serious deals on-line. I just have to convince Mark that we should. I can't even begin to imagine that protests from my extended family. People just don't understand. :sad2: But I keep looking at doing other things, and aside from a few days at the beach a few hours away, everywhere is EXPENSIVE. And why pay a lot of something I'm not sure we'd enjoy?

Point being...if we go in July, that means we wouldn't be going in February. At least not this February...we could possibly be back on track the following year, as I think going down to Florida in February is divine!

We'll see... I'm not putting up a ticker yet and we haven't booked, but...we might soon!

I think I'm going to need a vacation by July and where else is there? :rotfl:

Tina...my prayers out to your uncle...my grandmother is currently in the hospital and I know the feeling...but isn't it nice to come to the Disboards and relive Disney memories....everything could be falling down around y ou but you can always find peace when planning a trip or even thinking about past trips and answering questions on disboards and you get my drift :)

Thank you... and yes, the Disboards are wonderful. They have been a great source of support and FUN over the past year and a half.

Love the update! Max is so cute jumpin up like that. I love that pic! How cool you all got to get together!!!:thumbsup2

Thanks...its a nice picture. Karin got nice pictures of all of us, too.

Nice DISMeet! And what a fun idea to give them scarves!! Fabulous, I say!! Pashminas are our favorite! We could get them in Crapistan for about $5!!!

I think it's great you all hit it off so well, so quickly!

I'm sure you could.... :rotfl: I was really nervous... despite having what I've been told is a rather big personality (I can be loud :rotfl2:), I can be very shy in social situations. Put me in a situation where I have :rotfl2: to network for my job, though, and I'm fine. Give a speech in front of a few thousand people? No problem. But try and make new friends? Now, that's :scared1:

Oh man, how'd I miss the update here! Well, this is now belated but, Happy Brithday!:goodvibes I hope you had a wonderful day!

What a great Dismeet!! I can understand your thoughts beforehand, that's how I would've been too. But obviously you had nothing to worry about!:thumbsup2 And I love the scarfs you made! They are beautiful and Nicki looks so fashionable in hers!

Max is getting cuter and cuter with each update Tina! I love his sweet little side glances with his eyes, so cute! Love the hopping pics too!

Looks like you all had great fun!:thumbsup2:goodvibes

Thanks, Tim! I think we live about twenty mins. away from eachother, having checked out your FB profile. :rolleyes1

There were plenty of not so great things about the house and it looks like we won't be moving right now anyway. Its a ridiculously complicated story... :headache:

I'd love a waffle right now...but I think Max preferred his watermelon!

Great updates! popcorn::

Sorry to hear about your real-life stress though  Hope things pick up soon

Thank you! I'm sure they will... they always do, right? :goodvibes

Great trip report so far! Just started reading today, and got all caught up... Can't wait to read more!

last but not least

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you, Cynthia. Yup, still can't believe I walked right past Jordan, thinking, hey...that's Jordan! :rotfl2: I did it to Tom and Karin during that first trip, too.

I have a list of things I would handle differently with Max the next time around. Mark and I also kept pointing things out to him, as if he didn't have enough to look at on his own! :confused3

And the caramel place is really, really great.

The scarves were not my idea...my art teacher made different scarves for another occasion, I just copied her...and perhaps got her to do my cutting! :rolleyes1

And I'm behind everywhere, too...including your thread! :upsidedow That's what happens. I also haven't been feeling very Disney recently... for a minute I totally switched my focus to moving and got all obsessive about that. And now I'm back. But I think things are calming down for us now, except for my uncle. That's a tough one.

But we'll all be ok...I just need to remember that. As my husband says, "You were all Hakuna Matata about everything...." and then I change my mind! :rotfl2:

Oh Tina! That's really sad and hard about your uncle! I"m so sorry that he is facing this! Great to hold onto a bit of hope though- keep thinking positively and be strong for him; he'll want and need that.

Keep up posted!

Looks like such a fun Dismeet! I love the scarf you made, I would never be able to do that!

Love the pictures of Max and Minnie, how cute! :thumbsup2

Yeah, I wasn't able to do that, either... Not only did I "steal" the idea from the incredibly talented art teacher at my school, but I also asked her to help me create them at the very last second. I did the layout and stuff on my computer, that much I could handle, but I got her to put them together. I'm not exactly the craftiest person in the world! :lmao:

Sadly, we said goodbye to our new friends. Nicki and Todd were off to check out of their hotel and then head to EPCOT and Karin and Tom were off to...well, you can read her trip report to find out what happened to their afternoon!

I did, however, stop to take some parting shots of the beautiful Boardwalk...

CIMG0790.jpg

I had never walked from the Boardwalk area to the World Showcase entrance, so I had been expecting a long walk...um...yeah, not so much. Before I knew it, we were walking through the International Gateway.

CIMG0794.jpg

CIMG0796.jpg

I seemed to take a lot of pictures of people from the back... I am in serious need of some photography lessons!

Strolling through an empty, positively beautiful England.... sigh...

CIMG0807.jpg

We made our way back to Future World.

CIMG0811.jpg

CIMG0812.jpg

The snacks that Nicki gave us were already coming in handy...

CIMG0815.jpg

I would come to realize that I should have been better equipped with smaller snacks for Max. Oops.

I had absolutely no plan whatsoever. One of the plusses of not being able to ride the super headliner rides is that the attractions we can see regularly have very short wait times. We made out way in here:

CIMG0823.jpg

So, this is one attraction that we had not done last February. Its also different from what was there way back in the medieval era...or 1988. I had no idea what to expect. We enjoyed our journey and found Figment entertaining enough.

Max enjoyed the play area at the end of the ride:

CIMG0835.jpg

We spent some time admiring the fountain:

CIMG0841.jpg

And then I decided we should go see Captain Eo. I figured it would bring back warm memories of my ‘80’s childhood. As it happens, Captain Eo was there way back when... and, apparently, I did not remember anything about it because if I had, we would not have taken our THREE YEAR OLD. I was imagining something fantastically kitschy, not creepy, weird, and scary.

And, yes, in case you’re wondering, I did remember that Michael Jackson was in it!

We left the Imagination Pavillion and ran into this:

CIMG0845-1.jpg

We allowed them to pass and decided to head to “the room,” as Max took to referring to our accomodations at Coronado Springs. While I would have liked to stay and have lunch in World Showcase, Max had other plans, so we made our way to the Mickey bus. We were making a mistake we would make again and again throughout the trip: we asked Max what he wanted to do! I know, I know... I am not suggesting that you ignore the obvious needs of your child while at Disneyworld. But in a place as stimulating as we all know Disney can be, asking a three year old whether he wanted to go to the room or go to World Showcase was pretty much pointless. How easy it is for me to sometimes forget that I’m the adult. I’m the decider!

On our way out, we were stopped by a wonderful CM who was greeting people as they came into EPCOT. He stopped Mark, who was wearing his birthday button, and serenaded him with “Happy Birthday.” It was fantastic and one of so many small moments that make you stop and think, yes, THIS is what Disney is all about. This is why I’m here.

Our super bus mojo continued and we didn’t wait too terribly long for one to arrive and wisk away to our home away from home. We returned to the room, only to quickly go back out to the Dig Site where Max played in “my kiddie pool.” My son is a funny little kid. There are many things he has never been afraid of; he’ll run and fall and hit his head and get right back up again. He’s been making his way down slides and up all sorts of stairs and ladders for years now, but swimming in the “big waters” scares him. This is something I cannot fathom, as I swam competitvely for a significant part of my childhood and sometimes think I”m more comfortable in water than I am on land.

We had a grand time in the kiddie pool and at some point, Mark took him over the playground and I was able to get in some time to zone out in CSR’s beautiful, big hot tub while sitting under a bright, blue sky. Ah...blissful!

But that bliss could not go on forever and we decided to head over to Pepper Market to grab some lunch. We were headed to Jiko for dinner that evening, so I didn’t want to eat too much, but I hadn’t had much at breakfast, either, and was definitely looking for something. Max absolutely needed lunch, so off to El Centro.

Mark and I shared a reuben, which was delicious. We got a huge sandwhich, stuffed with corned beef and sauerkraut with potato chips and a nice pickle on the side. It was perfect for sharing.

20110220123732.jpg

Max had the spaghetti meatballs, which was...spaghetti and meatballs. The serving size was generous. Pardon Max’s finger...

20110220123737.jpg

We sat outside, overlooking the beautiful lake and I just could not get the smile off my face. We were in a place that was stunningly beautiful with amazing weather; flowers were bursting all over the place in way that they just hadn’t the year before. The air was warm and the sun was strong. I felt completely relaxed and so happy.

We headed back to our room and I snapped a few pictures along the way:

20110220121036.jpg

I also took some once we were back in our room:

CIMG0847-1.jpg

We all settled in for a nice nap, as we were running on a bit of a sleep deficit after the last two days. The beds at CSR are super comfy and I love comforters. Everything was so soft.

I had plans to meet up with Tom and Karin later that night for evening EMHS at Magic Kingdom, obviously not something Max could make and Mark was fine with staying back with him. After all, my husband is the person who, when presented with the opportunity to ride BTMRR time after time, refused. There was only one snag; my phone, for whatever reason, would not let me dial Tom’s Austrian cell phone. While we were still at El Centro, I stopped at the front desk where a very friendly CM tried to help me leave them a message in their room. I should have known something was wrong when they still did not have a room assigned for them and all I could was leave a handwritten note at the front desk, hoping they’d stop by again.

Lucky for me, once they FINALLY got their room, sometime around four, I think, they stopped by our room and we discovered we were only separated by about seven rooms or so! Same building, same floor. They kindly offered to drive me over to MK for EMHs before their late ADR at the Wave. How sweet! I had been prepared to tackle the big, bad bus all on my own but it appeared that I would not have to.

But there was something wonderful and exciting between that moment and my first walk up Main Street...we were off for our dinner at Jiko.

Seals and Crofts, Summer Breeze.

"Summer breeze, makes me feel fine
Blowing through the jasmine in my mind."

I've just learned something very important for future trips- not to ask my boys what they want to do next. :rotfl: Neither of them talk well enough for it to matter right now, but I can definitely see why it's better not to ask.

We loved CSR last time we were there. I remember a few really good naps there. It's nice that it was warm enough for Max to play in the kiddie pool.
