You asked for details, so here they are.:D

The common areas of the Plaza are amazing. There's marble, gold, and crystal everywhere.

We were warmly welcomed at check-in. I didn't detect the slightest problem with us being DVC. We had booked a standard king bed room for the night, and weren't sure what to expect.

We rode the mahogany lined elevator to our room on the 16th floor.

Our door was in a little alcove area. When we walked in, I was blown away.

Our room easily measured 12' by 20'. Opposite our bed was an amazing carved marble fireplace. It had a light switch that turned on a tinted bulb. There are amber colored translucent rocks that create an illusion of glowing coals. Over the fireplace was a large mirror.

There were two windows overlooking 58th street. There's a large office building directly across the way. At night, it's very pretty to look out at all of the lights.

On either side of the bed were nightstands with oriental lamps. Directly over the bed was a large, glittering crystal chandelier! An upholstered bench was at the foot of the bed.

To the right of the bed we had a writing desk that housed both a computer and fax machine!(No, I didn't log on. ;)) Over the desk was a large mirror with elaborate gold framing.

In one corner there was a comfy chair and ottoman. A large armoire housed the TV and minibar. The ice bucket was heavy leaded crystal glass.

The entire room was decorated in soothing shades of green. The rug pattern followed the contours of the room. There are beautiful wood moldings throughout.

We had a walk in closet that housed a safe, iron and ironing board.

The bathroom was about the size that we expected. The mirror had a silver and crystal sconce cut into it. Very elegant.

All in all, well worth it. Sure, at 44 points for the night it was pricey, but I can say that I stayed at the PLAZA!!

The best part, I met up with dbond, another DVCer who's staying there with her family of 5 (and you can't beat our DVC "family" for friendliness) Lovely people, and I'm very happy that we met. She also was happily surprised with the size of her room. I'll let her give you the details when she gets back.

If it wasn't for DVC, this magical getaway would never have happened. Gotta love those points!!!:D :D :D

I think we have only had one report from someone who described their room as 'tiny'.

I wish I could remember what floor we were on, I don't think it was as high as yours. You pretty much described our room, though I would guess the 20 foot was short. Our room seemd to be twenty feet plus the vestibule/closet area. I would say 26 feet from the window to the door. 12 foot the other way sounds right.

We had the standard catagory room also, ours had two queens, maybe our room was longer????

But I agree, the best part of the stay was the architecture and the ornate detail in the common areas.

If we want to send a couple days in NYC, we wouldn't hesitate in spending points to stay there again.

Thanks for the prompt report Regina! I'm so glad to hear you had a lovely room and it sounds like a nice break from the routine. :) I've been to The Plaza many times (and looked out at it from my office window for several years) but have yet to "stay" at The Plaza.....it's on the "to do" list. :)

Oh my "mom" sounds wonderful!!! thanks for sharing :D

Rich, we also had the vestibule. I didn't count it in the measurement of the main part of the room.

It easily could fit two queen beds instead of the king.

Adjacent to the check-in area is the concierge services. They're there to assist all guests.

This may have to become an annual event. I highly recommend trying it at least once if you're going to be in the NY area.:D :D :D

I ditto everything DVCREG said above and will add that our family of 5 also had a magical stay at the Plaza. I was a little skeptical before arrival because when we called about a week before to confirm our ressies, the Plaza had our info all wrong. They didn't have the kids listed on the ressie and if we had showed up and only had a room with 1 bed, we were in big trouble. They also informed us there would be a roll-away charge. Since our ressies came from DVC, only DVC could update the info. I called MS and they took care of the mix-up and everything was as expected at check in and no charge for the rollaway. We booked a deluxe room for 56 points per night, which is the only room that would accommodate 5. Our room was huge. I'm not good with dimensions, but imagine 2 double beds and then add a rollaway, end to end to the beds, and we still had enough room for 3 more rollaways if we wanted! The boys were doing cart wheels in the room! We also had a desk and computer/fax, 2 velvet covered chairs and a glass coffee table, a large tv cabinet/mini-bar, and a walk in closet big enough for 5 suitcases opened on the floor. The bathroom was small, but it had a window and a nice ledge with lots of room for stuff. I was most impressed by the luxuriousness of the towels and the sheets. I don't think I've ever stayed in a hotel that had such a fine thread count on the sheets, all monogrammed and the towels were plush, and also monogrammed. They sandwiched the blanket in between 2 flat sheets and turned the bed down and tucked everything in tight for us each night. We left housekeeping a note asking for more towels and we had enough towels to stay another week! We had what they called an interior view. This hotel is actually a c-shape, and the interior views are of the other wing of the hotel. We could see 58th street if we mashed our face up against the window! No complaints about the lack of a view though. We actually enjoyed the quiet interior room after our day of city noise. One day we decided to sleep in and with the black out shades on the windows, we slept like babies until mid morning.

I also enjoyed getting the chance to meet a fellow DVCer and Dis Board family member. I was so surprised that we accidentally ran into each other the way we did again and again. I look forward to meeting your entire family when we vacation together again at WDW. What a "small world" it is when you belong to DVC.

:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc What great reports! Thank you both. I'm glad to hear the it sounds like DVC gets treated right at The Plaza. ;)

Thanks so much for posting this Regina (it took a couple of days for me to find this post)

We are leaving for The Plaza in 8 days!!!!

I am sooooooooo siked!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm glad that you found this laurabearz.

As you see, both Dorothy and I had beautiful rooms, mine booked as a "regular" and her's as "deluxe."

I still haven't stopped smiling. Who would have thought that me, a kid who grew up in the East 80's of Manhattan, would ever stay at the Plaza???

It still feels like a dream. :) :) :) :)

We had an invitation from another Time Share company to visit NYC, stay overnight, get Broadway tickets and a $50 credit towards lunch (which we used for dinner). The room smelled so badly (mildew) that I asked to have it changed. The next room, very small with windows that if you screwed your head real tight you could 'almost' see Central Park was at least not smelly. We enjoyed the show and the dinner, but I can't wait to do it again at the Plaza. That would be a real treat.

Dear dvcreg! So, as a fellow NY'er, you'd recommend the Plaza for, let's say, an anniversary week-end? How far in advance did you need to book the night? Would one night be enough? Did you go on a week day or week end? It's sounding good to me in any case! I still need to convince DH that we've done the right thing in buying into DVC! He needs to realize the DVC flexibility!

Hi Skorpie

We had play tickets for 7/25, a Thursday night. About a month before, I suggested to DH that we go through DVC to book the Plaza for that night.

When I called Member Services, they told me it would be a few days before they would know if the Plaza could accommodate us. In just a few hours, we got the call back that it was confirmed.

When you book the Concierge Collection, there's a $75.00 fee that's applied to the transaction, (not per night.)

We had such a great time, that DH suggested that we get play tickets for that Friday night, and take the late train home. The Plaza held our suitcase, we hopped in a cab, zoomed back to the hotel, grabbed our bag, and headed to Grand Central.

Is one night enough? When it's a night at the Plaza, you betcha!;) (But I wouldn't have minded staying longer.):D
