We were lucky enough to score Secret Porthole Room 5520 for our Wonder cruise on 9/8. Aside from the safety light that was left on at night (closing the room divider curtain solved that problem easy), and someone stealing our door magnet signs for the Nassau Day & 1/2 of Castaway Cay (who want's one that says "Rose & Chris Just Married" and "Celebrating Chris' Birthday on Castaway Cay"?) the room was great. Here's the reason that its discounted (these two pics are taken from the middle of the porthole):

But here is the view taken from me standing at my regular 5'11" height:

As this was our first cruise, we were just happy to have a porthole. in all honesty, i didn't think the poles were that big of the deal. When we go on the Wonder again, we're gonna try to get that room again. granted there was no steamer trunk, but i don't really think it was neccessay. then again, it was just me and my bride.

Thank you! Thank you! My mom and step-dad are going to be in that room in 13 days! My DH, four kids and I will be in 5522/5524, so it's nice to see what our view will be.

Thanks again,
Lori P. :)

Lori,
5522/5524 are connectors. We stayed in these on the Magic last Nov. The view is different from the above posted 5520 which has the best view of the SPH.
5524 has barrels in front & is probably the most obstructed view of the SPH on that side of the ship. But it's still nice to have a porthole for free. It was nice to have the light come in.
Here's a pic of my dd doing her homework in 5522:

Well, I'm going to add my thoughts on the SPRs since my family just had 4 of them a couple of weeks ago. We were in 5020 and I LOVED having the window and will probably always have to have one from here on out (that's why I don't want to get upgraded to a veranda :smooth: ) however, it is more obstructed than I thought. I'm not complaining, it's just that every picture I have ever seen is taken looking straight at the window so here are my pics taken from a different angle (actually looking to the sides of the windows)...

That's okay :flower: I'm just happy to have a view of the outside. Natural light cheers me up.

Thanks for the other picture!
Lori P. :)

I just saw that you were from Chattanooga, too so :wave2: neighbor!

Thanks for the pictures of 5020 that is our cabin on the Magic for the July 2006 double dip cruise. What did you think of the room and the location?? Would you book it again?? Thanks in advance:)

Yes, I would book it again in a heartbeat! We felt that there was enough space for the 3 of us (for a stateroom!). Everything we had was unpacked and I still had the drawers to the "desk" that were empty. I was glad that I took extra hangers. I don't know if you can ask for extra but it really wasn't that big of a deal to take some. The location was great. One thing I didn't know before was that you can take your kids in the club/lab reagardless of age as long as you stay in there with them. My son will be 3 in December and we were able to go play anytime as "visitors", we just couldn't leave him in there for them to watch. We even went into the lab (my son loves Buzz and when he saw that big Buzz right in front we HAD to go in). But anyway the location was great because it was right there by the clubs. Short walk up or down to everything. The only complaint I have is this - 5020 is all the way forward, the drink station on deck 9 is all the way aft. But I just read someone saying that they took a huge bottle, and I'm thinking one of those 64oz-all-the-water-you-have-to-drink-in-one-day bottles, and filled that up and since your room host will give you ice, you can have drinks more readily available. I would recommend doing that and wish I would have thought of it. Have fun!

Thanks for your additional thoughts....We are cruising with all of my brothers and sisters and grandparents totalling 18 people next July. We were able to get the 5020 room and my two boys ages 9 and 4 when we cruise are very excited. Thanks also for the tip about the drink station that is a great idea to bring a bottle and fill it up and have drinks ready at the room. I will also add extra hangers to my list!!

We were on the Wonder in June and had room 5520--absolutely LOVED it!!! Am going to try and get it for our 7 day on the Magic in June 2007... :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I would also book it again in a heartbeat. Again, the SPH not pictured here are the ones that are most obstructed (I guess the pic was not going to be very attractive so I didn't take a pic of 5524). The barrels cover at least 1/2 of the window view. SPH 5024 on the opposite side of the ship would have the same barrel view blocking most of the window.
Upsides to these rooms :
1)love the deck/location. Easy access to the theater and elevators
2)LOVE the split bathrooms :cheer2:
Dowsides:
1)the luggage storage area was almost right across from 5522. Got a little noisy on check-in and check-out day (they really toss those suitcases around !)
2)BEWARE of CM's working outside your windows. More than once we were coming out of the shower or getting dressed and saw CM's right outside our window on that small catwalk area. They were cleaning a couple days.
3)there is a light that constantly stays on---even during the night. For us, this was not a downside, but for some it might be. YOu can just draw the curtain shut.
I would def book these rooms again.

ham53, We took care of 5520 on the Wonder 9/18 sailing for you! We loved the room. There were 4 of us, and my DD5 loved the bunkin beds (her terminology). ha ha. We used clothespins to keep the curtains closed, but w/out a room darkening shade, the light still shines through the curtains. Not really a problem for us as my kids like having a night light anyway, and this kind of acted like one. Ditto on the crew working out there...make sure to close the curtains before showering or undressing! The only noise problems we had were from kids running up and down the halls unsupervised I guess. Other than that, we loved it! Terrific location.

Thank you for all the info everybody!!! My Dh and I will be in this cabin in December. Can't wait! :sunny:

vossjemi ~ that's really funny that you had the room too. did your sink leak too, or had they fixed it by then? And was the champagne we left in the fridge still there? :)

No leaking sink. Worked just fine. The tub seemed to leak water on the floor though. And darnit, no champagne either! Was Filany your room steward?

Hi Kelly! Nice to meet another Chattanoogan. I actually live in Hixson, since I pay city taxes, I claim to be in Chattanooga, lol.
