The PE teacher at our elementary school is huge. I would definately say he is morbidly obese. I have nothing agaisnt large people, but when you choose to be a PE teacher, shouldn't you try to be fit yourself? At least somewhat fit? His stomach is enournous. Again, no offense to pooh sized people, but this is a guy who's job it is to make sure our kids learn about fitness and spends his time making our kids exercise and get in shape. He should set an example, I think. I'm sure he's a nice guy--Ive never talked to him, but this just kind of bothers me.

:teeth: I guess that could appy to Firemen,Policemen,etc...the list could go on and on couldn't it?

The bottom line is that in my opinion EVERYBODY no matter what you do for work should "TRY" to take care of themselves and be as fit as they possibly can. :)

In a perfect world everyone would be fit and healthy, but I still think that if you choose to be an althletic director, you should practice what you preach.
Practice what you preach being the key words.

I would expect a music teacher to be able to read music, so yes, I would expect a gym teacher to be reasonably fit.

I have had gym teachers who were a little "burly", but never obese.

When I was in HS we had 2 PE teachers. One was thin one was VERY large. Both could move well and run, You'd be surprised how well a fat person can keep up. I'm a large woman, but I can bench press more than half my weight(and I'm not muscular), I can run a mile, and I can dance.

Don't let a spare tire fool you. There could be extra power in the engine.

You are correct! I agree with you. :)

In HS our gym teacher was huge. Like couldn't walk huge. But I've heard she lost some weight in the past few years. So good for her.

When I went to join a gym, the guy that gave us the tour/info was morbidly obese, and he was young too. It was a great sales pitch ;)

Overall, I agree with you. It does send a very confusing message to the kids, I think. But, that doesn't mean he can't be a GREAT PE teacher and that's what really counts. But, yeah, it would be weird to see.

My daughter had a Life Skills teacher in middle school and a major portion of her semester course was a unit on nutrition. This woman was a very large lady. The kids thought it was funny that she kept candy and cupcakes on a shelf behind her desk and ate them whenever she wanted a snack!! :earseek:

Yep, it's a "do as I say, not as I do" thing. I know everything there is to know about dieting and weight loss, but danged if I can stop eating those Ho-Ho's! :teeth:

To quote Woody Allen;

Those who can do, do
Those who can't do, teach
-and-
Those who can't teach, teach gym!

True, and I did have some very large women put me to shame once in an aerobics class.

It's just strange seeing a huge PE teacher. I asked my DD and she said he never does any of the exercises with them. I saw on Oprah yesterday that stomach fat is the most unhealthy of all. They even showed it on TV---it was lovely.

Exactly.

My elementary school PE teacher was morbidly obese. She could not walk 5 feet without being out of breath. She would yell at us if we could not run a mile.

Same thing when I went to check out our local Curves. :confused3
