Our Non-DDP trip (How we did compare??)

Thanks Maggie! We have pretty much decided that the food plan would not be worth the $$$$ for us. We have 3 kids who are "adults" and I just don't feel that we would get our money's worth with them. We generally all share 1 appetizer and 1 dessert (if we even feel like we can handle that!) I can see how sharing at CS would be easy most of the time, but sharing at TS does not appeal to me! We generally eat one CS and one TS a day and never spend 1400$/week on food, which is what the plan would cost us! Glad you had fun :) .

What a lot of people seem to forget also is that in order to do the DDP, you have to pay rack rate on your room. We always stay at the YC or BC off season and rack rate is not pretty :rotfl: In order to get the free dining, we had to nix the AAA discount on the room... the $100 per day of free dining was more than the $60 discount... but if Disney wasn't running the free dining promo, I would not have done the dining plan because you're technically talking $160 per day in food ($100 dining plan + $60 discount on room that you give up) I kept tabs on what we spent last time, and we averaged about $120 per day without trying. (2 adults and 2 kids) Over the course of the week, you'd spend $280 more to do the dining plan. :)

You CAN get a room discount (AAA for example) if you are PAYING for the DDP.

I asked my travel agent at AAA re: this and she said "double dipping" is not allowed???

I then contacted another AAA branch and they told me the same thing?

Perhaps they just meant during the free dining?
Yes, when Disney offers free dining, the rooms are rack rate. No way around it. I would think most people would still come out way ahead with the free dining though. The times have just never worked out for us (maybe next year  )

The only way to get the AAA discount and the paid DDP is to do it through AAA. Disney won't do it, nor other TA's. Just AAA itself. But yes, then you can do AAA and get DDP.
