~Our March 'Just Engaged',freezing,and full of surprises trip~Updated 6/23 p.76

Day 4 continued: March 16, 2010

We left off finally getting on a monorail and leaving Epcot. We had to ride to the TTC and then switch over to the Resort monorail track. I know I’ve said it before, but I love riding the monorail to and from Epcot. It’s such a different journey than just going around that continuous loop around the Seven Seas Lagoon. I mean, yes the Epcot track is a loop too, but it’s just a bigger, longer loop.

We made our way to the TTC, got off the first monorail, walked dooooooooooooown the long ramp, then uuuuuup another ramp and in line for the Resort monorail. I don’t think we had to wait too long before we were on the 2nd monorail. Our first stop was the Poly, so of course, we said hi to our table that we ate sushi at and Kona that very morning. Our table was empty so I said to Fiancé that it was lonely. haha. I also took one last good look inside the Poly since we won’t be back there until July.

A few minutes later, we were hearing “To our new passengers, Aloha, and welcome aboard!” Haha, yes I know the whole monorail spiel by heart. That’s just one of the things I love to annoy Sis and Fiancé with…so consider that a warning Kristen! HA! We looked out our monorail window at everything all lit up- the Poly’s lit torches, the lights all along the GF roofs, the beautiful lights all across the Contemporary and now BLT, and of course, the beautiful changing colors of the Castle. Nighttime is my favorite at WDW.

Soon, we were pulling into the GF station. I practically sprinted into the lobby. ha. Okay, maybe I was just a little excited to finally be back at the GF. I have so many great memories at this Resort. This was the first place I ever stayed at, the first place my Sis ever stayed at, and we stayed there quite a few times before we started staying at the Poly. One of my favorite pics from a trip when we were younger is Dad holding Sis and I’m standing on a chair next to them and we’re just looking out on our balcony at the Seven Seas Lagoon as the sun was rising. Another pic I like is Sis and Dad having ‘tea’ out on the balcony too. We had so much fun at this Resort. We got our own little GF robes and would wear them to and from the pool. In the morning as we would walk to the main building, we would always see ducks in the pool. It’s the little things like these memories that hold a special place in our hearts and keep us coming back to WDW.

We walked in the doors and immediately saw:

That light shining across the lobby is on a band that was playing/singing. They were really good and definitely gave us that feeling of being back at the GF, I don’t know how to explain it, so I hope someone understands!

We just stood by the railing and took everything in…Have you ever really looked up? Amazing:

Oh yep, there’s the piano that Uncle Jesse played on/sang to Aunt Becky..yes another Full House reference!:

339.jpg

Sis loves this elevator. I think it reminds me of when we used to stay here:

340.jpg

Of course, Fiancé had to take another pic of me..again with my phone open..I think this is when Kristen asked me if I had seen the teddy bear lady yet. We actually saw her back in June, but did not see her this trip. I think I’m looking for her as this pic was taken, haha:

341-1.jpg

Now…are you ready for some hilarious pics?! Fiancé has the camera, so he tells me that he’s going to go walk around and take pics since I was ready to go in Basin. Little did I know, he was lying! He hid behind a pole and took “paparazzi pics” of me! Oh yep, texting Kristen again…:

Walking into Basin:

Checking out the soaps…I cannot believe I did not see him in the window! HAHA:

344-1.jpg

HEY! I SEE YOU!:

345-1.jpg

He continued to follow me around, haha. I seriously could spend hours in that store. Everything smells so good!

346-1.jpg

My problem is though…I wouldn’t want to use any of the bar soaps and ruin them! haha

We were seriously the only ones in the store!:

After we were done smelling just about every scent in the store…we made our way over to the photo pass desk by the stairs. We wanted to check out our pics we had taken at the MK and see if we wanted to take any more on Thursday. We really loved the ones we already had, so we planned on buying them on Thursday.

We headed down the beautiful stairs…

Has anyone seen the Hidden Mickey’s on the floor pattern? They are subtle! We found a nice couch to sit on in the lobby and listened to the band some more. We were actually right below them:

The chandeliers here are so beautiful.:

We sat on the couch for awhile. My grandpa called to see how our trip was going, so I talked to him for a few minutes. Then, we went through my camera at all the pics we had taken that day. I was so excited to show all of you our pics from the F&G Festival! I caught up on my TR notes, then we headed back up to the monorail. It was getting late and we were ready to head back to Pop.

We hopped on the monorail to the MK, then walked over to our bus stop. Again, it was so hard for me to just walk by the MK and not go in. haha. I tried to find our stone as we were walking to the bus stop, but it was hard to see since it was dark out. I don’t think we had to wait too long for a bus and soon we were back at Pop.

When we got there, we headed to the gift shop since we hadn’t really checked it out yet. I was surprised at how big it is! It was also neat to be walking around in there after all the wonderful pics that MeMom had been showing in her TR’s and in my PTR. So this pic is for you!:

When we were done looking around, we headed back to the room. We drank some more of our champagne from our surprise basket and watched America’s Funniest Home Videos. I went to sleep content with how our Epcot day went…and visions of Tonga Toast swirled in my head. haha.

The best morning. Ever.

Awww, I love the "monorail loop". It has become a tradition to do that one of the first days that we get there. I did not know that there is a Basin store in the GF! I love that store! I will have to check it out next time. My favorite time in the lobby is when there is a band playing. I could sit there forever & listen to that. :cloud9:

I can't wait to hear what is the best morning ever!!

I can't wait to see the GF!!! It looks so, well, GRAND!!!! I imagine myself sitting in a cushy chair listening to the music as I update my TR journal, too.

AND BASIN!! WOWZERS! Personally, I am a user. I would use all the soaps I bought; however, candles are another story. I just can't seem to bring myself to light them.

:confused3

What a fun evening!

You are right...the GF is GRAND! :)

Haha, I love candles too!

I love your update. Basin has to be one of my favorite istores in Disney. I stop at th eone in GF and the one in DTD. DD15 and DN are giving me a list for when I'm there next month. :rotfl:
Someday I'd love to stay at the GF.

I spy some manly men hanging out in Basin, and they appear to be very involved in looking at the soaps.

I'm like you - I love going in Basin, I enjoy buying soaps as gifts, but I can't buy one for myself. I have three I have been given, but they are for display only! :)

I didn't know there were Hidden Mickeys. Are you talking about in the carpet? I only know about the ones in the marble floor, and I forgot to take pictures of those last trip. I'm going to get those this summer. (No time on this short weekend trip to resort hop.)

Next Friday, by lunchtime, I will be back there! :dance3:

~Up next:

The best morning. Ever.

I'm liking the title of this. :)

I've been reading and keeping up but haven't had a chance to comment since I read while my hands are holding my breakfast! Thanks for giving me something to read in the morning.

I didn't get a chance to go to Basin this time at DTD; I really wanted to check it out because I've never been in there. Unfortunately, my dad was all ready to leave DTD so quickly that I didn't even step foot in World of Disney! I'd have the same issue as you have. I'd like to buy something, but then I wouldn't want to use it!

Yayyy I love when I'm surprised by your updates LOL You did this late last night and you knew I was already :cloud9:

I love hearing about all the great memories you and your family have from all your trips to WDW, including the ones from the GF. I took a lot of vacations as a kid but you know my parents aren't Disney people and it makes me sad that they're not when I hear your wonderful stories :sad2: I act like I was a deprived child when I definitely wasn't :rotfl2:

That's sooo funny that your fiance was taking paparazzi pics of you! I remember asking you if you saw the teddy bear lady.

We have to get some soaps/bath bombs from Basin in July, ok?? :thumbsup2

A few minutes later, we were hearing “To our new passengers, Aloha, and welcome aboard!”

Is it so lame that in my mind's eye, I hear him? :rotfl:

I love doing the monorail loop. Poly and the Grand Floridian are fabulous resorts that are great to visit and shop in. One of my gols in June is to do the monorail loop just for shopping purposes.

I've never been inside Basin, but it's now one of the things on my to do list. We're redoing our bathrooms (painting and redecorating) and I think I need a trip to Basin to put some finishing touches on it all.

No way I'm using that soap, though.

Oh my gosh, girl. That little piece of audio is my absolute favorite. Well, actually I really love the entire resort monorail spiel, but the "Aloha" part is my favorite. We've pretty much always stayed at the Polynesian, and every time we board the monorail, my sister and I recite the line right along with Mr. Monorail-Voice Guy. So you're definitely not alone in that. We also quite enjoy recting the lines about the Wedding Pavillion. Why? I'll never know.

Also, I totally agree with you that nighttime is the best time at WDW. Everything is lit up, and there's just a feeling of magic in the air. It's perfect. :cloud9:

Aww I am going to miss staying at the GF on this trip!! I am sure WL is just as lovely, but GF holds a special place in my heart. :lovestruc

I love all the pictures & Full House references! No matter how many times I have seen the Disney episode, if it is on, I am watching it. :lmao:

OMG! I just started reading and check it out....I was there at the same time. Y'all got there the day before I left. And how about this for small worlds....same building at POP! I was on the other side that didn't face the parking lot! 2nd floor too!!!:cool2:

Both my girls love the Grand. We've never stayed and I doubt we ever will but we love to visit. It's Danielle's dream resort. I keep telling her we can't stay there unless we win the lottery.

It is a wonderful place to relax after being in the parks. We saw the teddy bear lady in Feb, but I didn't approach her.

What a great update! I've actually never visited a Basin store and I can't wait to do that in Sept. All those soaps look so pretty! I know what you mean about not wanting to use them. I love riding the monorail too. I could stay on it all day! It seems like you two had a great day at WDW.

hahaha, love the Full House reference! :rotfl: I was so sad because the first part of the WDW episode was on last night but it was on at the same time as the AI results. I know, pathetic considering I've seen every Full House episode about 100 times.

That is so funny you know the whole monorail spiel. Love it!

I love the pictures of the GF it is my favorite resort to visit. I can't wait to visit Basin this summer and get the 10% discount with my Annual pass. I also love listening to the music.

hi, thanks for the update!:thumbsup2
In the basin store, are those tubes on the right hand side in your pic for the bathbombs?
I never really go into the store because of my allergies. but i want to get some for gifts when i go back in October.
:)
