Day 15 ~ The One Where We Visit The Circus

We woke up at 8.15am and went back to sleep for about 15 minutes before getting up and dressed. We were out the door and on our way to Blizzard Beach just before 8.45am, it only took us a few minutes to get there and when we did there were only a few cars in the car park.
Unfortunately though this was because there were no extra magic hours today, they must have changed them since we had left the UK as we hadn’t checked them since we got here. Therefore we had to wait a while to get in and it didn’t help that it was so hot out already. Eventually about 9.45am they let us through the ticket booths and as far as the lockers, then we had to wait again.

Some photo's we got whilst we were waiting:

Eventually at 9am we were let through into the park so we went and grabbed some sun loungers just above the main pool half in the sun, half in the shade. We left our things with the loungers and then caught the ski-lift up to Mount Gushmore. It was a great view over the park as we went up the hill, and it brought back a funny memory from the first time we went so Nick and I spent most of the time wetting ourselves with laughter. At the top we had to wait for a few minutes for another few people and then we rode Teamboat Springs which was so much fun. The tube you sit in can go right up the sides of the slide at times but the water was freezing when it splashed us. Then at the bottom I got stuck in the boat which was so funny.

We then went over to the purple slides on the other side of the park and rode them for a while as it was still pretty quiet in the park. We rode the Downhill Double Dipper first, the slide is two tube slides that are both the same and you race down them. They are really fast and great fun, especially when you come flying off the slide before the final drop. The first time we went down we drew so we rode again and the second time Nick won by a millisecond. We then rode the Snow Stormers which were two side-by-side slides you go down front first. Nick beat me on this one and again they were great fun. Then we rode the Toboggan racers which is a row of bumpy slides you race down. There was five of us going down and I won by quite a lot, maybe because two of the racers were little kids and Nick got stuck at the top. Nick and I then went over to the red slide, Run-off rapids, which is a tube slide you can go down in twos or separately on tires. We went down together and it was great fun trying to get the tube to go higher up the sides, then at the bottom I jumped out straight away but Nick couldn’t get out, payback time for laughing at me earlier me thinks.

We had had enough of walking up the killer steps now, they can get really tiring after a while, bring on more chairlifts I say. We decided to catch the lazy river back to our chairs which was really nice and relaxing, especially with the lovely hot sun beating down on us.

IMG_0072.jpg

We just went round to the exit nearest our sun beds and then got out and grabbed a drink. We then got the camera and jumped back on the lazy river doing a circle of the park, it was again really relaxing, apart from going through the water squirter's which were really cold . We then went into the main pool and spent a bit of time relaxing with a tube on the waves, it was really nice but after a while it begins to make me feel sick.

IMG_0077.jpg

We decided to head out of the park now but then spotted the funnel cake stand and since we hadn’t had any breakfast our tummys led us there. We brought one funnel cake with ice-cream and chocolate sauce and it was delicious but so sweet and filling.

IMG_0081.jpg

We then got showered and changed and headed out the park and over to Winter Summerland Mini golf.

DSC03322.jpg

We chose to play the Summer course and it was great fun. This was our first time playing on any of the Disney courses and they are so well themed and actually quite pretty. There was lots of beach themed holes and decoration and at the end you go through a Christmas bit with a Christmas tree and lots of decorations it was great. And I actually played quite well which was a bonus. When we finished our game which didn’t take that long as the course was really quiet we were given a limited edition golf ball, a pen and a lollipop which were nice bonuses. Amazingly when we added the scores up Nick the golfer scored the same as me, so not only did I manage to beat him at Buzz Lightyears Space Ranger Spin I drew him at mini golf, not bad.

On the way back to our resort we got a McDonalds for lunch and took it back to our room to eat. Nick got a double bacon cheeseburger and I got a chicken burger. It was ok but no better than in England, and no cheaper either.

Couldn't forget the exciting pictures of our McDonalds:
DSC03365.jpg

DSC03366.jpg

We had some laundry to do so we went down to the laundry room. Whilst we waited we went in the pool and did a bit of sunbathing, it was really nice to relax for half an hour. Once the washing was done we went back to the room, which still hadn’t been cleaned, and chilled out for a while. The cleaning service was quite irregular at the resort, if we had a bit later start to the morning they would be knocking on our door to clean our room at 8am. But if we had an early start we could come back at 3pm and it still hadn’t been done, it seemed to always work against us and we were forever having to just get clean towels and leave the beds. Anyway we then got ready to go out and left about 4.45pm.

We drove to Downtown Disney and parked at West Side. We had half an hour or so to kill so went and had a look in Virgin Megastores which had some quite cool stuff. We then walked over to La Nouba, unfortunately the queue for the woman’s toilet was huge, note to self: use another set of toilets next time. We got some popcorn and a drink in the souvenir cups and went and got our seats. The seats were pretty good, they were central and about 5 rows back in the second section, just above the lighting box. About 5.50pm the clowns came in and started their routine, of course they picked on some poor unsuspecting people, namely a family who got their tickets put in the middle of the stage and were just too embarrassed to get them back. The show itself was amazing again, everytime I see it, it doesn’t fail to amaze me. The acts are all quite typical circus acts but have been contemporized, there just so incredible and perfect and so intriguing to watch. The acts are interspersed with some incredible dancing and contemporary circus style music which all just enhance the overall atmosphere. We both loved it and every time we watch it we spot something new and interesting. We think some of the set and costumes have changed but it was as good as ever.

After the show we had 45 minutes till our ADR so we had a look in a few shops. We then headed to the House of Blues for our ADR. We were taken to a nice table out the back and our server was very friendly and helpful. We got some drinks, Nick got a sprite and I got a frozen margarita which was very good. We got the rosemary cornbread with honey maple butter to start. It was so tasty, it had a really interesting taste and the butter was really sweet and nice. For mains we both had the ribs with Jim Beam sauce, sweet potato mash and green beans, Nick had the full rack and I had the half rack. The food was very good, the Jim Beam sauce was really good and the sweet potato mash is so delicious. Even with the half rack I struggled but Nick managed to get through all his without any trouble. We both enjoyed our meals, the service was good and it wasn’t too busy and over run like we thought it may be from the queues outside, another good meal.

After tea we had a look in the HOB shop. I brought a shot glass, a pin and a magnet and then drove up to Marketplace which was really lazy I know but I was so full from tea. We went into the World of Disney Store and brought so much stuff, including some things for the Pirate and Princess Party. We then drove back to CS stopping at Hess to get some Krispy Kreme donuts, well petrol but we discovered they had Krsipy Kreme too. Back at Coronado Springs we watched a bit of TV before bed.

Day 16 ~ The One Where We Scale Everest

Today we were suppose to be going to Kennedy Space Center. The alarm went off at 6.10am, we put it on snooze for 10 minutes and when we woke up again it was 9am. We knew it was going to be too late to go to Kennedy once we had got ready and driven there. Instead we went back to sleep for an hour and it was very much needed. At 10am we woke up, watched some TV in bed and decided what to do for the day. Surprisingly Nick suggested we go to Animal Kingdom as we only have one day there to get everything done, and so that became the plan.
We got ready at a more relaxed pace and then when we were ready we drove over to Animal Kingdom. By the time we got there it was about 12.15 and we were hungry so we went over to Rainforest Cafe to see what the wait was.

Outside Rainforest Cafe:
DSC03382.jpg

DSC03397.jpg

It was only about 5 minutes so we decided to eat there. We were seated pretty quickly and were seated near Julius Squeezer the snake. We both ordered the same, Bamba’s BBQ wrap with fries, mango sauce and coleslaw and a sprite. The food was good, although I couldn’t eat even half, my appetite seemed to be getting smaller not bigger surprisingly. It was a really nice meal and the restaurant was over full as it often is meaning we had a more relaxed meal.

We paid the bill, had a quick look around the shop and then went into the park.
We took it slow today, and as soon as we were in the park we managed to get 3 sets of photopass pictures by the tree of life.

DSC03399.jpg

We decided to make Expedition Everest our first stop, we initially wanted to watch one of the shows today so we only had one to watch tomorrow but Nick didn’t have his camera and wanted to film Festival of the Lion King and Finding Nemo had been canceled for the day so that plan was out. So over to Asia it was, the architecture in this area is so amazing, its so creative and well themed.

DSC03403.jpg

DSC03412.jpg

Everest had a 50 minute wait time so we got some fastpasses and went to Dinoland to ride Dinosaur. The wait was 20 minutes which was about right but most of the queue was air conditioned and they had some quite interesting pictures and information. My feet and legs were already tired even though we hadn’t done much, it was really catching up on me today even after our extra lie-in. Dinosaur was really good, although Nick and I both thought it was more of a rollercoaster and it was much bumpier than we remembered too. After Dinosaur we rode Primevil Whirl which had a 10 minute wait. The ride was really jerky and hurt my stomach a bit but it is so funny, we laughed the whole way round. I love the bits were it goes up and down the track and the bits where you nearly go over the edge.

Some Dinoland pictures:
DSC03408.jpg

Primevil Whirl:
DSC03406.jpg

We had a look in the shop for a Pumba, no luck though which was typical, they had loads last time but none this time. We got a frozen fanta drink from one of the stalls and then walked back to Asia. We got a seat on a rock overlooking Everest for 5 minutes whilst we waited for our fastpass time, it was so hot out today, the weather seemed to just be getting hotter and hotter. We were straight on Everest, the ride was so great, better than we remembered and the backwards bit seemed longer. And I really screamed at the Yeti, the picture was so funny.

Some pictures looking over to Everest:

And inside Everest's queuing area:
DSC03411.jpg

By the time we got off Everest it was about 40 minutes to the parade and we wanted to get out the park before it started. We grabbed a frozen drink each, mango for me and mocha for Nick, and then we had a look around the shops at the front of the park. I managed to find the Classic Collection Genie I had been looking for for $200 so we got him straight away. However his box was so big, we didn’t know how we were going to get it back, but we would find a way somehow. We then brought a few more souvenirs and headed back to Coronado Springs.

Back at the room we chilled out watching TV and writing a few postcards for an hour. We then went and got some drinks from the food court and then we headed out for tea. We went to Premium Outlets again first, I managed to get the flip flops I wanted and Nick got a pirate t.shirt for the party from the Disney outlet and some jeans for his dad. We then drove to Texas de Brazil for tea.
We were seated straight away in the main section by the salad bar which was quite noisy but ended up being ok. Nick ordered a sprite and I got a margarita on the rocks which was really good and really strong. We went and got some salad first trying to remember not to get too much, which didn’t really work as it was all so nice. Then the meat came round, filet, sirloin slices and pieces in garlic, chicken in bacon, sausages, ribs, and more with mash potatoes, bananas and potato gratin. We didn’t eat as much as last time but it was just as good. We declined dessert, although it all looked so good when they brought the dessert tray over.

Not many pictures this time cause we took lots last time but here is a few:
DSC03416.jpg

DSC03417.jpg

After we had paid the bill we went over to Ron Jon Surf Shop which was in Festival Bay Mall opposite. Nick brought a t shirt which he was very happy with, for some reason he became obsessed with Ron Jon. On the way back to the resort we stopped at Walmart for a few bits and then it was back to the room for TV and bed.

Yay! You're back! And what wonderful new additions to you fabulous TR! I agree with you on the heat at AK...I'm not sure what it is about that park, but I always feel hotter there than any other day! Fantasmic looked so cool! I've only seen it here in Disneyland, and while it's nice here, there is no seating like there is at WDW. Loved your purchases, especially the AK magnet with the 2008 on it. I wish I had gotten that!

Looking forward to more!

P.S. What trip are you planning next? :)

So glad to have you back. Another great update! Thanks again for a great read.

  Yeah you're back! I was so happy to return from Mexico to read your TR. I've been missing reading about your holiday.

:yay: WOW!! When you write, you REALLY write! I loved it!
Ok, I was really glad to see that you guys like MGM (DHS) as much as we do. In fact I think it is my favorite park... not quite sure why, I think maybe it is the architecture, and the atmosphere... anyway it is best at night with all of the buildings lit up and music playing... sort of 1920's.
I am with you in liking the themeing in Asia in AK. I was so impressed with it all. I have the same picture me standing in front of those signs in Asia that you have of Nick!
Now about those obnoxious parents and children... I am sure you were a very polite English girl and didn't say anything but didn't you just want to scream?! We must have run into a few of their relatives because we had a similar experience! But overall everyone was just so wonderful and happy to be at Disney so the obnoxious ones were easy to forget.
Thanks again for sharing!!!

Yay!! :yay: :yay: So happy to have you back and with more great pictures and great report. I love Terror of Tower too....that is the only ride I have ever been on anywhere that makes me so anxious but I love it! It is in the beginning when you are going forward and it's dark....that just really gets to me! But then we always run right around and go back again and again!:rotfl: The mini-golf looked so fun...Almost made me want to do it---(I have no patience for golf) It was so adorable with all of the themed decorations! And I agree about AK being hotter too! It always seems that way to me too! Can't wait to hear about the P & P party...did that last year and it was so great---no lines! princess:

I just spent a good portion of today reading your whole TR. Love it! Thank you for taking the time to write about your adventure!! :thumbsup2

Looking forward to the rest.

Thanks :goodvibes. Fantasmic is brilliant and I am so glad they have seating as not only is it a good rest for your feet, especially when you have to wait for an hour or so for the show, but it also means that you get a good view from almost anywhere. You should definitely watch it next time your there, its one of my favorites :thumbsup2

At the moment I am planning a trip to Dollywood for my Mum's 50th in August ... I'm so excited :cheer2:

Awwww!!! :rotfl: How sweet. I feel so special! Thanks

I loved the updates, your pictures are always so great! Makes me feel like I'm there. I can't wait for more!

Thanks, there will be another one up in a minute :)

So glad to have you back. Another great update! Thanks again for a great read.

Thanks. Sorry I made you wait so long, I am so busy at the moment with work, holiday planning and its everyones birthday too but I'm determined to get them up :headache:

Yes MGM is brilliant, I just love the atmosphere and all the rides and shows and the architecture, it is so Disney :lovestruc.

Yes I really did want to scream, it seemed like all the obnoxious people were all at MGM that day. Other than that we didn't really meet any other rude people.

Thank you and sorry to have made you wait, I promise to try and get them up regularly again, you can blame work and just general life for getting in the way :lmao:.

I'm glad you like TOT its such a good ride, I'm trying to get Mum and Sophie to go on it when we go to Disneyland Paris next but their still apprehensive .
The mini-golf was really fun, I used to get really impatient with it but it was fun and the decorations are so lovely to see.

The Princess and Pirate Party should be up soon :thumbsup2

Loving this report and photos!!!1

Day 17 ~ The One Where We Saved Little Red

We were up at 7.45am today, got ready and were heading to Animal Kingdom by 8.45am. We got there literally just after rope drop and headed straight to Kilimanjaro Safaris. Somehow the wait time was already 40 minutes although the park had only just opened. We grabbed some fastpasses and decided to walk round the Paganini Forest Trail which was just next to the safari The trail was really good, we saw 7 big gorillas which was cool, they are really interesting to watch but can also be quite intimidating if they look you directly in the eyes. They were so big and one kept looking over to have his photo taken, it was quite funny. We also saw the hippo but he was right in the distance so didn’t see much.

Some Pagani Forest Trail pictures:

By the time we finished the trail it still wasn’t time for our fastpass return so we went and got some breakfast from the Kusafari. The queue was huge and it didn’t help that they kept changing where they were serving people as something was wrong with the computers. Nick got a coffee and chocolate chip muffin and I got a cappuccino and an apple turnover which was really good.

Our breakfast:
DSC03448.jpg

We got a seat outside near the Tusker House and ate whilst people watching, we noticed a lot of newly weds in the park today where their bride and groom ears and their ‘Just Married’ badges. It was also really nice taking some time to look at all the architecture, its so imaginative in this area and really make you feel as if you could be in a little African village.

When we had finished we went into the African shop and I got a few presents including some really cool Mickey head shaped pens in different animal prints for Sophie. We then headed back over to the safari for our fastpass return. The safari was great, we saw black and white rhinos, a giraffe eating from the trees, quite a few elephants including a baby down at the water hole, a leopard eating something and then the lioness and lion both sleeping on the rock.

After we returned from our safari and had saved Little Red from the poachers we walked over to Asia and got in line for Expedition Everest.

We got this really cool picture over to the Tree of Life from Asia:

The queue was 20 minutes but the queue area is so cool and well themed it quickly passed the time.

This time we got to sit right at the back which was really cool, and I forgot again how fast the backwards bit goes and again I really screamed so loud when I saw the yeti. After Everest we grabbed some fastpasses for the Kali River Rapids and went to see if we could check in for lunch early at the Yak and Yeti. We only waited about 5 minutes and then were seated about 11.45am. The restaurant was quiet at this time which was good and is nicely themed inside. Nick got a sprite and I got a Yak Attack cocktail which was really good, it was Mango Daiquiri, Bacardi Light Rum, and Wildberry Flavors, very yummy. We got some prawn crackers with peanut dip to share to start which were really good but not quite up to Tchoup Chops standards. For mains Nick got ribs with chicken fried rice and vegetables and I got Tempura shrimp with coconut ginger rice and vegetables. Both were really good although we saw a few of the other dishes and they looked really delicious too. We couldn’t fit in any dessert so paid the bill and left.

We decided to give the Kali River Rapids a miss as we were pretty cold from the restaurants AC and didn’t fancy getting wet. Instead we walked over to the Tree of Life and went on Its Tough to be a Bug. As we were walking round we took some pictures of some of the animals on the tree, its just so clever and beautiful but there are so many we hardly saw any.

The show was brilliant as usual, although we got a lot wetter than we wanted and remembered. It was then time for Finding Nemo, The Musical. The line was so long 30 minutes before the show but luckily we managed to get some good seats fairly close to the stage. The theatre is really cool and they have bubbles on the wall next to the stage which Nemo kept appearing in, it was really cute and kept us amused as we waited.

DSC03542.jpg

DSC03536.jpg

The show itself was fantastic, its so bright and colorful and the way they mix the puppets with people and all the singing and dancing was so good. It was literally just a quick run through of the film but with songs in it. Mr Ray and the sharks were so good, they all looked so like the characters.

After Nemo we walked quickly over to Festival of the Lion King to catch the next show. We had to wait a while to be let in but managed to get some good seats again right near the front in the elephant section. The show was amazing as usual, I love how they incorporate so many different things, the trampolining, trapezing tumble monkeys, the fire sticks, the balletic flying birds, and its all so bright and colourful and the music is so amazing and just makes you want to get up and dance.

After the show we decided to head out of the park but with a rather long detour to get a frozen mango and frozen mocha drink first. We got the tram to the car and then drove to Walmart to get another suitcase and some supplies. We managed to get an huge American Tourister suitcase for $100 which was a bargain, and also a belt for Nick’s dad and some more drinks and crisps.

Back at Coronado Springs we had a few hours to write postcards, phone home and get ready for dinner. We left for Animal Kingdom Lodge at 7.30pm. We parked and then entered the gorgeous lobby, it was so lovely to be back, we had such a magical stay here last time and it brought all the lovely memories back.

Outside Animal Kingdom Lodge:
DSC03620.jpg

We had a look around the lovely shop whilst we waited for our 8.30pm ADR. I brought a few things for Sophie, a safari Goofy, a ballerina Minnie (she had just passed her 1st ballet exam), a t.shirt with a leopard print Mickey head on the front and then a safari Pooh for me. We then went to see if we could check in early for Jiko and found out our reservation was actually at 7.30pm not 8.30pm, opps. Luckily we were seated within about 5 minutes on a nice table next to the window with a little pond outside. Our server introduced herself, she was very nice and chatty and very helpful. We couldn’t decide which wine we wanted so she brought over 3 white wines for us to try, put a bit in a glass of each and left us for a few minutes to try them. We choose our wine, Nick had the Reisling and I had Chenin Blanc and she let us finish the samples too. We ordered our food too, to start we shared the BBQ chicken flatbread which was really good. It had shredded lettuce which tasted as if it had mint sauce on and then the bbq sauce was drizzled on the top and not too over powering. For mains Nick had BBQ beef short ribs which came with sweet potato and normal mash and garlic sauce. He really loved this and it did taste good, the meat was so tender, the sauce was really good and so was the mash. I had the filet mignon with macaroni cheese and red wine sauce. It was good but the steak could have done with a complimentary sauce and the macaroni cheese was a weird combination. We just had enough room for dessert (well I didn’t but I couldn’t resist), so we had a pistachio crème brulee with a chocolate base, and it was really, really good. Our waitress then told us to take our time over our wine, it was nice just sitting there, we had a view over the pond outside and the restaurant had a really nice ambience.

After dinner we drove back to the room where we watched some Without A Trace. We then had an earlyish as we had a really early start in the morning and a long day ahead.

Ariel, another great installment. I can't wait to hear what you have planned on your early morning. I have to say that I couldn't be more jealous that you and your DBF got to enjoy 23 days at Disney. :) I know that I've said that before, but just have to say it again, because everytime I read your TR I think that you enjoyed almost an entire month there. What an experience! How many days did you have on your park passes? Mexico was great btw. It was very hot, but I didn't mind. My oldest DD is still there with her aunt and uncle, so she will have been in Mexico for 2 weeks. Lucky girl.

another great update!!! You guys sure do know how to pack in a good touring day......even with the rests. Love the purchases you made. All of the food looks great, but let me at those short ribs!!!
