Day 7 – Epcot...The Day We Failed, Part I.
June 21, 2007
We did not set a time to get to Epcot, I think we were starting to feel the effects of 5 full Disney days because we were exhausted and didn’t arrive at the park until 11:30 that morning. Just getting out of the car and walking through the parking lot was exhausting, I kept thinking this was going to be one long day! It was pretty hot that day too, so that did not help with feeling incredibly tired.
Getting there at 11:30 was the number one blunder of this trip and it definitely effected our day, as you will soon see.
We arrived at the gates and I felt myself get a little burst of energy, I mean this is still Disney, right?! We got in a line and that is when we noticed just how crowded the park was going to be today. There were long lines at every entrance gate. My small burst of energy began to fizzle as I feared the worst...OUR PLAN WOULD NOT WORK TODAY!

I told DF we will probably have to improvise for much of the day, he of course stayed calm and said we would make it work. I just love him.
Our entire group was dispersed among different check in lines, so like always, DF and I were waiting for everyone else to get the butts inside! I think we just have a knack for finding the quickest lines at the beginning of the day. As we were waiting we saw our favorite CM’s...the Photopass photogs, taking pictures of people in front of Spaceship Earth, aka the Golf Ball. We moseyed on over to him and he immediately noticed our “Just Engaged” pins and wished us congratulations, he asked when and how it happened so we talked it up with him a little bit, after all the rest of our party was still no where to be seen. He started taking a bunch of pictures, probably more than any other photog we had seen so far.
The photog told us to then face each other and for me to put my left hand on DF’s shoulder so he could get a shot of my new bling. This is one my favorite pictures from the day.
I think we told the photog we were waiting for our group and that is why he kept taking pictures of us, even though other families were waiting patiently for their turn. So if you were at Epcot on June 21, 2007 and tried to get a Photopass picture at around 11:30 in front of Spaceship Earth, I am sorry. Good thing there was another photographer taking the same shots.
The photopass guy then told DF and I to look at each other, of course I find this hilarious for whatever reason and ruin the picture.
See I can’t keep a straight face, oh well it would have been a nice shot. The photog then tells DF to pretend that he likes me...meaning “kiss the girl.” (Cue Little Mermaid Soundtrack)
We finally see members of our party wandering aimlessly looking for us, so we thank the photog for our photo shoot session, grab our card, and round up the troops to get started on our day, but not before we pay one last visit to our favorite photopass photog for some group shots.
Now that we got that out of our system it was time to put some kind of plan into action. We told everyone to meet at the entrance of Soarin’ in the Land because we were going to get Fast Passes for it...if there were any left that is. DF and I took off in a brisk walk/run dodging strollers, crying children, and people who had no idea where the heck they were going. We arrived at the Land and the air conditioning felt amazing the minute it hit our bodies. We saw that Soarin’ still had FPs available but not until 4:45. We had dinner ADR’s at Alfredo’s at 5:00, so we knew we may be a little late, but there would be no complaining, at least we knew we would be able to ride it today!
Our group found the Land with no problem we told them how Soarin’ would be later on in the day. We noticed that Living with the Land had a 15 minute wait, so we hopped in line for our first ride of the day. As we all know this ride isn’t much of a thrill, but where else can you see Mickey shaped pumpkins, right?
After the ride we opted to stay inside the Land and watch Circle of Life, after all it was way hot outside and no one felt ready to take on the heat just yet. We were corralled into the waiting area where DF and I decided to take a seat on the floor. DF took it up a notch and decided to lay on the floor, he said he didn’t feel good.
We got into the theater and took our seats to watch the very cute movie filled with the cast of the Lion King. I get chills whenever I hear the Circle of Life song, I don’t know why that is or if it is even normal. After we learn that we need to save our environment and lights turned back on I noticed that DF was sound asleep, I had to poke him to get up and he tells me he still doesn’t feel good and feels very weak. When DF is weak it means he needs food and I was starting to tell what he meant because I feeling quite hungry myself. We made the executive decision that it was definitely lunch time!
We ate at the Counter Service place inside the Land called Sunshine Seasons. I think we eat lunch here every time we are at Epcot because there is a lot to choose from and everyone can find something to eat.
We weighed our options but then DF and I both decided on getting a sandwich. He got ham and I got turkey, the sandwiches are pretty generously sized too. We walked by the dessert area and saw they had a delectable looking chocolate mousse cake, so we grabbed a piece of that and a coke and went to pay for our food. We found Karen who had saved us a table, you literally have to run and dive to a table if you want to sit and eat at this place, there never seems to be a place to sit so you have to scan the place and wait for people to get up. It is like there is a line to get a table, which can be very unnerving if you are starving! We found a large enough table for the 9 of us and dug into our food.
I have to say that turkey sandwich was very yummy, they put a spicy little sauce on it which gives it a little kick and it was good. I devoured it in no time and then it was on to the cake, and my goodness what good cake it was. DF and I got one slice to share, but I could’ve eaten all of it myself. Our cake made everyone at our table want a something sweet so Janna went to get everyone their dessert of choice and DF ordered a Butterfinger brownie which was very tasty too. (sorry I have no pictures of the food!) We were now very full and I was now very cold because we were sitting under an AC vent. I was ready to go back outside. DF and I decided that we would go grab a FP for Test Track and would meet everyone at the Seas with Nemo and Friends. Jeanne, Ken, and Matthew wanted to go to the World Showcase to go see some show in America. They told us they would meet us at Soarin’ at 4:45.
It felt very good to get outside because I was that cold! DF and I made our way to Test Track and were horrified when we saw that there were no more left and there was a wait of 90 minutes. I really wanted to ride it so we decided to wait and see if the line would die down later. Since we had a FP to waste we decided to FP Mission Space for everyone, even though I knew I wasn’t going to ride it. We started back towards Nemo and got in line telling everyone the bad news about Test Track. The Nemo line was outside for a little bit, but soon were inside and the line was moving pretty quickly. I like the theming of the line for Nemo, it was pretty dark though.
We loaded our Clam Mobile and set off on our Journey into the Sea, I was excited since I love the movie Finding Nemo. After riding it I was kind of disappointed though, I mean it was one of those things that if I didn’t get to next time, I would be fine with it. The one part where the screen is right in front of you made me kind of nauseous and I had to close my eyes. I am glad we tried it, but it is definitely not on my top things to do at Epcot. I was happy knowing that I could still get my Nemo fix at Animal Kingdom tomorrow with the new live show.
After Nemo we wanted to see Turtle Talk with Crush, but we just missed the showing so we were told another one would be starting in 20 minutes...so we waited. I thought Turtle Talk was very cute and very funny. I love all they get all the kids involved, it was definitely worth seeing and we thought Matthew would have loved it, but he of course thought Finding Nemo is boring and that was another reason they split off from the group...I mean what kid thinks Finding Nemo is boring?!
As we walked out of Nemo DF and I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to get a picture with Nemo from a Photopass photog.
We also stopped for a snack—DF got the famous Mickey ice cream bar and I got a Minnie Strawberry bar, which I think are made by Edy’s brand because they taste exactly the same except they have Minnie on the wrapper. Either way it is a refreshing treat. Just being the sun was starting to give me a headache

, so always being prepared, I popped and Advil and we continued on. We were so behind schedule at this point that we decided just to wing it the rest of the day, something we don’t usually do.
We decided to make our way to Innoventions to see who was at the Visa Character meet, since DF is a card member. There was a line which we waited in for about a half hour, but it didn’t really matter since we were just winging today. It was finally our turn and I was delighted when we came through the curtain to find MICKEY and PLUTO waiting for us!
I walked in and Mickey greeted me by kissing my hand, that mouse is such a heartbreaker.
DF and I think Jeff looks like he is meeting the president in this one.
Before we left Mickey stopped us to give us a stickers as an engagement present, so the CM said. DF got a Mickey Sticker and I got a Sleeping Beauty One, which we wore proudly next to our “Just Engaged” pins.
We walked back out to Innoventions with everyone except Jeff, he was no where to be found. We figured he went to find a bathroom or was trying out one of the things in Innoventions, so we took a seat to wait, and wait, and wait. There was no sign of him, DF went to look around but came back with no Jeff. Karen, Janna, and Shannon (who is Janna’s friend who was joining us) went to look for him outside. We weren’t worried because afterall he is 21 years old, but we were just confused as to where he was because he was with the us the entire time and just seemed to disappear. DF and I sat down and took pictures of each other to commemorate the occasion of waiting for Jeff.
Notice our awesome engagement present from Mickey?
Karen, Janna, and Shannon return with no Jeff either, we remember mentioning that we were going to ride Spaceship Earth next, so we were thinking he may be there waiting for us and we would call him on his cell phone on the way to see if we can locate him.
We made it to Spaceship Earth and he is not there and not picking up his cell phone either. Finally, DF gets a call and it is him, he says he lost us and thought we were right behind him. DF told him we are at Spaceship Earth and he should come and find us here. Jeff asks what Spaceship Earth is

and DF says the “Big Golf Ball.” Then Jeff says he doesn’t know where to find that and DF makes the funniest face and tells him to look up, find the huge ball, and walk towards it. Jeff then tells DF that he is looking up and cant see it. WHAT? How can you not see the million foot Golf Ball?! Then DF asked that very question and asks Jeff if he is inside a building and that is why he cannot see it. I am sure Jeff then called DF a smart-butt (but insert other word for butt) and explained that NO he was not inside a building. We were all laughing so hard that he couldn’t find Epcot’s landmark, but somehow he found us and to this day he claims that in the area he was at, the ball could not be seen...suuure.
After making fun of him some more we walked on to Spaceship Earth, which was set to close the next day for refurbishment, what good timing! I love this ride, it is so long, cold and relaxing, not to mention educational. After our little go around in the ball we noticed it was almost time for Soarin’ so went to meet Jeanne, Ken, and Matthew and I think we all arrived at the entrance to Soarin at the same time. We gave our Fastpasses to the CM and received congratulations from the CM, we loved those pins we got lots of Congratulations all day long!
We were hoping to walk right on to Soarin’ like we did in 2005 with our Fastpass, but we did not run into such luck this time. It was as if we didn’t have a FastPass it was moving so slow, I guess it was better than 100 minute standby line, but I still think that 30 minutes in a Fastpass line is too long, and it meant we were now late for ADR and I was worried that they would cancel our ADR on us.
We finally made it on to Soarin’, this is DF’s favorite attraction and one of mine too. Usually simulators like that make me motion sick, but this ride really feels like your flying that is has no effect on me. I love all the sights, smells, feelings of this ride. When it was over we all clapped like we always do because it is just that good. Had there been more FPs available for it, we would have gotten them so we could ride again!
We were now well aware that we were late for our ADR and had to make it all the way to Italy. We knew it was a far walk to the World Showcase and we knew we would have to go back to Future World after dinner. You see, we had originally planned the day so that by the time our ADR had rolled around we would be done with Future World and not have to backtrack to that side of Epcot and enjoy the attractions of the World Showcase for the evening. But since we had gotten there late, we still had a bunch things to accomplish in Future World like Figment, Honey I Shrunk the Audience, Ellen’s Energy Adventure, Mission Space, and possibly Test Track. We knew there was no way to hit all of those things, but we still wanted to try to get in as much as we could.
But there was no time to really devise a plan for after dinner we were late and hungry and with that we hauled our butts all the way to Italy in hopes that they could still honor our 5:00 ADR at 5:40!
