Our Magical Mulligan Trip!!

Well, our first full day anyway. Oh - DH and I have decided not to add on yet another day on to the front end of our trip. The extra day on the back end is looking to be a sure thing for me though! :thumbsup2 So now our official dates are the 1st through the 10th...:cool1:

Our first night we're staying at the AKL and then the morning of the 2nd I'd like to check out the AKL a bit and then cruise on over to the Poly to check in and dump off our stuff and head to Epcot for the day.

First order of business, since we walk through there first, will to be to check out our Legacy tile - I have to remember at some point to check out our brick on the walkway near the Contemporary while we're down there too. We always forget to do that. Wish we could buy another one now that our 2 has become 3! I've been thinking of getting DS his own legacy tile with his picture on it this trip. How cool would it be to someday show his own kids? :thumbsup2

Ok so where was I? Oh yeah...Legacy Tile first thing. At this point I find myself wondering whether we should immediately go to Soarin and get fastpasses for later. And hey, if we can ride that first, it would make my day! But you guys all know that! So let's say that Soarin is #2 on our list of things to do. That may work out well, yet it goes against my "all left turns" rule for this trip. Kind of like George's bizarro world...everything opposite than usual.

BUT, I'm thinking if we start at Soarin' and THEN head left around future world, we can be back to the Living Seas in plenty of time for our 1:50 lunch PS at Coral Reef. Did I mention that it's now a CP package meal? Looking forward to catching that! :sunny:

Ok, so after Soarin, I'm thinking we go and check out the little Kidcot station there and then go around Innoventions West and head to Test Track! I love this little banana guy and I hardly ever use him! Wonder why? :confused3 But anywho...we've never been on Test Track. Dumb luck has it that it's been closed each time we've been there. Refurbishments or broken down. Karma? I dunno, but I ain't leaving till we have been on it at least once! DS can hardly stand the wait to go on TT...and bless his little heart, it's about killing him to wait out the next couple of weeks till we go. He's been so very sick all week - did I mention he's got an Upper Resp. Infection? But the only thing that's made him feel better is Disney...the movie Cars and last year's vacation planning video and of course, the Travel Channel specials! So after 4 straight days of minimum 101.7 and maximum 104 fevers, possible delirium, luke warm baths to lower fevers at all hours of the night, he's on the mend and yesterday afternoon managed the energy to help me pack a bit for our trip - bathing suits, beach towels, etc...

Again I'm getting away from my mission here...planning out Day 1. So after Test Track, we'll check out their Kidcot station and then we'll hit Mission Space. Hopefully DS can ride...I think he's just at the 44" mark so provided he stands up nice and straight, he should be able to get on with me. And the nice thing is we can explore that area for awhile...email postcards, hit the Space Base, etc...and didn't there used to be a character greeting around here somewhere?

Then off we go to Universe of Energy. Can you believe that all these rides/attractions so far we haven't been on yet? :confused3 Well, at least DS hasn't...we didn't make any of these last time. The more I think about it, it'll be a whole new adventure for him and this time I can really appreciate the newness and wonder in him and not the bitter antics of Cruella and Horace! Ding Dong the witch is dead! I thought that this moment called for another dancing banana, don't you agree? Speaking of Cruella, she called to tell me about the wonderful weather in NJ today...I had to burst her bubble and tell her it was 80 already so far today! She wasn't impressed. Then we spoke a bit about our upcoming trip. Told her I've been watching the weather down in FL and it's looking warm (high 70s/low 80's) in the 15 day forecast. Thankfully, she was able to confirm that for me because....drum roll please....tap tappity tap tap tap tappity tap tappity tap...

So-And-So is there right now and said it's hot. So there you have it Disney fans...the official forecast from So-And-So. It's got to be true if So-And-So says so! I asked if So-And-So was going to the Lucy store when they hit MGM this year and couldn't keep from giggling...went right over Cruella's head. :rotfl: Her tone changed though to a very, unfortunately, recognizable one and then she gave me a dig about not being able to afford to fly down and that we had to drive. No, I said, that's not it at all...I can buy more stuff that way and not worry about how I'll be bringing it all back. Surely, she can appreciate that! I was going to go one step further and say that the gas it would take to drive down there would still be about $150 less than what she spent to rent a car to go to WALMART and buy coffee, but...hey, it's a beautiful day today - why spoil it?

I do plan on calling her again at some point this weekend to remind her and my DH's brother that they forgot his birthday last Tuesday....Hello? Official Travel Agent for your guilt trip calling!?!? NO ONE in his family remembered his birthday. The only 2 people who did, outside of myself and DS, were my mother (who calls and sings to him every year for the last 13 years - love you mommy!) and our best friend, who incidentally was diagnosed with cancer that morning and still remembered to call for Tony's birthday :sad2: ....Ah...family....can't live with em...can't kill 'em. :rolleyes1

Anywhooo...where were we? Ah yes, Universe of Energy. After that I'd like to spend some time in Innoventions. DS should enjoy it. Dontcha think?? :confused3

So I don't know where we'll be, time-wise, by now, but if time allows, maybe we can check out the new Nemo ride and maybe even head to Honey I Shrunk the Audience prior to lunch. And at some point I want to do Turtle Talk again. LOVE IT...can't help myself. Finding Nemo has become one of my all time favorite movies since we saw it in the theater and I can recite just about the entire movie line by line and Turtle Talk amazed me last time. I was bummed he didn't call on me for a question...I was gonna ask about the whereabouts of Squirt's mother. What is it with Disney films and single parent households? Even Cinderella...as a kid it was probably that fact that drew me in - Cinderella didn't have a daddy either...Thanks Walt...for not making me feel like I was the only kid without a dad! :thumbsup2 I keep meaning to write in to Dave Smith at the Insider and ask him if he knows anything about this....Think about it...can you list all of the Disney characters who only have one parent? Cinderella, Bambi, Nemo, Squirt, Andy from Toy Story...Ok, so maybe I'm the only one who thinks of these things? Guess you don't want to hear that the Father of the Bride movies make me bawl like a baby either, huh? It was on last night, that's why it's fresh in my head...:ssst: Shhhh....that's enough outta me.

So we have a 1:50 PS for Coral Reef and can hopefully get a table by the tank at that hour. DS should love it. I haven't told him about it...DH wasn't thrilled as he wasn't that impressed with it when we went there several years ago, but come on...we pay those outrageous prices for the environment, not the quality, right??? Open wallet, dump out contents at the entrance and shut up and smile, right?

So after lunch we'll either hit anything in Future World that we may have missed or possibly care to do twice??? TT??? Soarin???? :teeth:

We have the 5pm CP show to go to, so not a ton of time to mess around...maybe we can hit the San Angel Cantina for a couple of margarita's to go for the walk to the CP? Yummmmmm.... We have a 7:45 ADR for dinner at Nine Dragons....as of today anyway...I haven't called the good folks at Disney Dining in a few days...that's kind of late, but hopefully DS can make it till Illuminations. I've been wondering if I should switch to the Biergarten. I wouldn't mind even eating at Marrakesh...I ate there years and years ago it seems...don't know if my boys would like the food, but maybe the promise of belly dancers would change their minds?? :teeth: After all, we can get mall-food-court-style-General Tso's chicken here in Greenville...let's shake it up a bit, I say. What do you guys think I should do???

So after dinner I'd like to catch Illuminations if the boys can hang with the big dogs and then head back to the Poly....Phew...sounds like a full day...Now I have to transfer these thoughts on to microscopic sized paper that I can commit to memory and then swallow to eliminate any evidence of planning my boys' days out!

More later Gators!! :teeth:

I'm going to enjoy some of our 80 degree weather today!! :sunny:

:banana: :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

YAY - I did it...just like that...took the plunge and booked yet another day...our plans now consist of:

Friday, December 1st - Animal Kingdom Lodge...:ssst: It's a surprise!
Saturday, December 2nd thru Saturday, December 9th - Polynesian!! :cheer2:

And....Saturday, December 9th - All Star Sports! Ok, wasn't my first choice...I wanted Pop...all they had available was a preferred room at ASMo and a standard room at *** (hee hee) for the passholder rate so I took that. I'm sure now the nagging question will be...should I upgrade to ASMo? :confused3 Nope...I shall resist.

I went out into the garage and happily told my DH that I added another night...he grunted. At the same hotel, he asked? No...he groaned...BUT - and I may have stretched the truth here a bit, but I was trying to make it sound attractive - I saved 50% because we're passholders. Ok, I stretched the truth a lot, but I really needed him to jump on board so that I can live with myself...and then...it came...the conversation...big, heavy sigh...

DH - Why again did you need to add another day?
Me - Because I booked the sleigh ride at Wilderness Lodge.
DH - Ummm....come again?
Me - I got the very last sleigh ride they had available!
DH - A sleigh ride?
Me - Yes, the last sleigh ride of the night - 9:30pm. They give you a blanket, you can bring drinks...it'll be great!
DH - Let me get this right...you booked a sleigh ride for 9:30 at night when you knew we weren't even going to be there?
Me - Well, I couldn't just let it go...it was the last one!
DH - How much does the sleigh ride cost?
Me - $35
DH - A person?!?!
Me - No! Only $35 for the ride! For all three of us!
DH - And how long is this ride for?
Me - A half hour! Think about it...a deal, I think!
Me - It's only like a dollar a minute! Cheap if you ask me...and it's the holidays! How great will it be to go on a sleigh ride at night from the Wilderness Lodge!!! This will be the best Christmas EVER!! :santa:
DH - (Growling) Ok, so let me get this straight - a sleigh ride...in FLORIDA in 80 degree weather...Yeah...just like Christmas...
Me - I make a hissing noise...that's the noise I like to make at him when he lets the air out of my balloon. He knows this noise well...hears it quite often and it makes him laugh.
DH - So you're spending more money to stay an extra night to save money on a room to go on a sleigh ride that you booked for after we're already checked out and would most likely be pulling into our driveway at that time??
Me - You're going on the sleigh ride and you're going to have Christmas spirit and you're going to enjoy it...:furious: IT'S MAGICAL!!!!
DH - Walks into the house, slams door behind him...

Since he didn't say anything else, I'm going on the assumption that he's on board and is fine with that!

YAY - we're staying an extra day!!!

Love you baby, mean it!!!

Yay!!!! Another day!!! :cool1:

I can't believe Cruella and DBIL forgot your DS's b-day. :confused3

With a great mom like you, I bet he had a wonderful day anyway! :thumbsup2

Sounds like a really full first day...

I see your plan and am thinking I hope you can fit it all in

I also hadn't realized there are kidcot stations in fw? My kids are too old for that, my niece did them on our last trip with them

I also would not normally do 2 sit downs so close together but if the food is bad at cr you have another restaurant to go to and get some good food. I've never eaten at nine dragons but I hear its very good

Biergarten is good too, its a buffet of some real genuine German food. My mistake there was thinking I could handle a large beer. I did finish it but was very glad we weren't driving anywhere.

I've never eaten at marrakesh either.

Its amazing, I've been there 10 tmes in the last ten years and still have a lot I haven't done.

My advice here would be to realize you can't do everything, relax and enjoy this trip, take your time and do what you can. Whateve you don't do this trip you can put on the list for april:)

As far as moving to asmo? I've stayed there and would prob do the preferred room there if given the chance...

Just my opinion cause my name aint so and so ;)

Good control on that cruella thing...I guess she still hasn't gotten over her "issues"

Guess what?

I just read a trip report tonight and now know that the characters in epcot are in fact in innovations west!

Hth...nighty nite

Me too...not too concerned if I don't though. We actually have plenty of time that week to hit Epcot so I'm not gonna freak out if we don't make it all.

tiggerwannabe said:

I only realized it when I took out my map from February to "plot my course". I honestly never even paid attention to any of them before, but maybe Michael will like them. :confused3

I don't normally do 2 sit downs that close together either, but CR is more for Michael to see the fish than anything else, but at that late hour for Nine Dragons we wouldn't eat much anyway...appetizers probably. I like Biergarten and have eaten there just about every trip - of course with the exception of this last one - DH isn't a real big fan though. I figured if lunch is decent and I don't think we'll want to eat later, then I can always cancel Nine Dragons and if we do end up hungry we can grab something like fish & chips, etc...something about vacation though...I can always eat!! All that walking makes me hungry almost all the time!! ;)

LOVE big beers!! :drinking1 They're the perfect primers for Jack & Coke's back at the hotel!!

Don't worry my friend....not stressing over it...have a lifetime of trips ahead of me. I'm a perpetual Disney commando though...well, commando in general...I can't go slow and relax on vacations...need to always keep moving. The more packed my day is the better I feel. Go figure...:confused3 I tried telling myself that if I made a plan this time it may be a bit easier on everyone. And maybe it will help me slow down? Funny - I have no problem doing nothing at home though! :confused3 Big difference vacationing with a little guy too...can't just drag him around like a rag doll (like I do to DH! :lmao: ) and I want him to enjoy it and see all the little things that I'd probably normally skip over. Yeah, I know...I'm nuts and probably not making any sense.

tiggerwannabe said:

The Fantasia pool is closed for refurbishment...think I'll stick with ASSp - just in case...one more hotel I can cross off my list of places I've stayed. Funny - In nearly 30 trips to the world I've tended to stay at the same places or - gasp - off site a few times. I'd like to branch out a bit in my old age!

Are you SURE??? Ok, pop quiz...where can I buy I Love Lucy merchandise???:lmao:
Oh yeah, and what time does the shuttle run from WL to Universal?? :rotfl2:

LOVE THAT...at least I've got some stuff to laugh about from the last trip!!

Are they still doing the Disney Visa Card pics there? They were in February...Oh, no - I think they stopped that...ah well...

Great pre trip report. You will have a much better time. From what I understand they are still doing the Disney Visa Pictures in EPCOT. It is not on the chase rewards site, but others have said they got their picture. Ireally hope so, since my DS, DBIL are bringing my nephews for their first trip.

OOPS!

You didn't mislead me. I just reread your post and realized I need to stop posting when I'm really tired. :confused3

Morning!

I am impressed...

Your planning is very thorough.

With the fantasia pool closed staying at assp makes sense. Your planning is a good idea, being flexible is a great backup plan.

Pop quiz? Lucy is at uso not MGM and if your hire a cab you can get from wl to anywhere in Orlando.
:lmao:
So and so is either a ding dong or sil has a horrible memory for what so and so tells her...

Happy belated to your hubby!

Ttfn...

I thought I was a planner til I read your plan - you REALLY plan what you will be doing! Sounds like a wonderful day! I am sure you will enjoy it!!

AHH, but So-And-So doesn't know about the Law of V, which states that any days spent by PrincessV and family at WDW in Dec. shall be the coldest days of the entire month. Like clockwork for the past 5 years. Watch that weather forecast closely right before you leave!

Can I be honest? Nine Dragons is the pits. If you've had good Chinese food anywhere before, I think you'll be disapointed here. I'm voting for Biergarten or Marrakesh.

Spreadsheet's sent!

I wasn't even thinking when I saw nine dragons I thought Japanese not Chinese...the Japanese restaurant with the grill is the one I'd recommend. Nd is def skipable.

Ok, um...this is the kind of conversation that usually occurs in the beginning of our relationship...I would have changed my dates! :rotfl2: Dang it V!! Information like this would have useful a month ago!! (trying to channel a bit of "Fools Rush In and The Wedding Singer) Well, if the Vacation Mulligan gods think I deserve another shot...they'll give me warm weather!! Good - I don't feel so bad...yes, it's awfully quiet in our neck of the woods around birthdays and holidays...although, as you know, with family like ours, who needs enemies? Or is it you can pick your nose but you can't pick your family? Ya, ok, whatever...all I'm saying is sometimes I have to be grateful for the silence!

It's been nagging at me...first of all 'cause it's so late, but after the (and no offense to my fellow North Carolinians) so-not-worthy-of-even-mall-food-court-Chinese food here...the last thing I'm wanting to do is spend a small fortune on it down there. Actually, I've been busy today...the fine folks at Disney Dining will be getting a(nother) call from me tomorrow!

Want to try and get dinner at WCC or Chef Mickey's for the last night before we go on our "tropical" sleigh ride! Thinking/most likely going to cancel ND and pretty sure I'm going to cancel that 7:20am CM's...who am I kidding...never gonna happen.

Ok, so....where do I start? Ummmm....I know...I'm going to go grab a cup of coffee and do another post before Heroes comes on...back soon!!

So let me tell you guys about my lunch hour...

I sat down with my very dear friend Diane, who by the way, thinks I am completely insane. She's never been to Disney, has no desire to go. Can you believe that? Love her dearly, but sometimes I wonder if I shouldn't broaden my circle a bit, don't you?

Anyhow...there I was in the conference room with all my stuff spread out...I must've looked like quite the sight...my deluxe passporter binder STUFFED like a Thanksgiving turkey with tickets, confirmation letters, the first 8 versions of my Word calendar (blown up showing just the 7...oh wait, now 8...no 9...no...10 days of my vacation, with all my plans, ADR confirmation #'s with each day having abbreviations on the top with either a square (for AM) or a cirle (for PM) EMH...I'm loaded for bear...really I am.

So I'm examining my calendar, totally thinking of cancelling ND for dinner on the 2nd and cancelling my crack-of-Dawn b'fast at CM's and adding either WCC or CM's for dinner on our last night before our sleigh ride....

Then it occurs to me that I've got 2 Disney rewards cards stuffed in there too - love you Disney Visa, mean it! They've got about $170 between the 2 of them and first I think they'll pay for a nice dinner...our Artist Point maybe? Or is it spelled Pointe? Hmmmm....can't remember...:confused3 BUT - does Shula's take the Rewards card? I'd feel much better about the cost of that place if it did. It seems so...I don't know...Off Property to me...:rotfl:

Then I think about our dinner at Shula's. That's going to be an expensive night, but that's not what bothers me...What's bugging me is that you have to dress up there. And I want to walk over to MGM after. Hmmm...what's a girl to do? Change of clothes won't fit in the baggalini...maybe Shula's is a bad idea. Maybe even Artist Point(e), although we can swing by our room at the Poly from there and change before heading to Epcot. Ok, that's a plan. AP is now saved from the chopping block. Shula's is now walking on thin ice...which may, or may not be present that week - thank you Weather Queen V!! :rolleyes1 As if I needed one more thing to cloud my brain, now I'm worrying about the weather!

Ok, so this my friends, is where my sheer brilliance hit me like a lightening bolt. Sometimes I even scare myself...really I do.

So this lightbulb goes off in the midst of my dining issues...HEY - I can use my Rewards points to pay for that extra night at ASSp...Oh yeah...this is good stuff...I call DH to announce to him (yet again) that age old statement....Who's better than me? Two of me! And release this verbal fountain of spazmatical thought on him...poor thing. He's probably sorry he even answered the phone. I tell him that we can use the rewards card to pay for our night at the hotel and hey - since we got the cheap passholder rate...and will have well over $100 in rewards left...hey - we can upgrade! God forbid I think about saving that and using it elsewhere, right? That'd be too smart.

So after our conversation yesterday about the need to spend it to save it to savor a warm weather sleigh ride, yada yada yada...NOW I think, that hey - the last night is now free...he's gotta love that...

What happened next I had no control over...really. I swear. But there I was on my cell phone now convincing him that since the last night was now free, we could leave a day earlier! WHAT?? Yep - he said the same thing...but wait...listen...

I say, we should leave on Thursday night instead of Friday morning. Get a jump on it and shorten our drive.
DH - You want to drive all night?
Me - No....even if we just do 3 to 5 hours, we'll be that much closer the next morning. And besides, if we leave Friday morning...we'll get to Orlando just in time for rush hour...on a Friday...Honey, do you KNOW what that will be like? It will be so stressful...
DH - well what time can we check in?
Me - When? Friday?
DH - Yeah, what time will our room be ready?
Me - Doesn't matter...we can drop our stuff off and head out and check in our room later...like we did last time. It's easy.
DH - If you (non-printable expletives) think I'm driving all night and then going to park all day you're out of your mind.
Me - No, no - that's not what I'm saying...We drive a part of the way. That way, we get up Friday morning...have less of a drive, MISS rush hour traffic...and we can relax when we get there. Doesn't that sound great?
DH - So what do you have planned for Friday?
Me - Who me? Nothing...we have a dinner reservation but that's it. I swear. All I want to do is be there in time for dinner, but I thought it'd be nice to get a head start.
DH - So you want to spend the night somewhere Thursday night? Where?
Me - I don't care...anywhere...half way between here and there...doesn't matter.
DH - So we're spending more money.
Me - We're getting the last night for free now!
DH - But we're still spending money...let me get this straight..because the last night is now free...we can leave a day earlier and stay in a hotel on the way there.
Me - YES - finally - you've got it!
DH - We're still spending money!
Me - ARGH I give up....you just don't get it!
DH - Ok, well, leaving a day early sounds good to me...I wouldn't mind driving at night. Let' s do it.

LOVE YOU BABY....mean it! So now, we're leaving another day earlier...November 30th!!

So tomorrow I will finalize my dining choices and then hopefully be done with it for the next 2 weeks...

Told you...my mind is a scary place to be!

Spreadsheet's sent!

I wasn't even thinking when I saw nine dragons I thought Japanese not Chinese...the Japanese restaurant with the grill is the one I'd recommend. Nd is def skipable.

How's your baby today? I hope he's feeling better

Thanks C! You know, I initially thought I'd read that Teppanyiaki was going to be closed, so I booked ND, but I read yesterday that it's later on...not when I thought. I may try and see if we can get in there...I'd rather eat there anyway...

Thanks in advance for the spreadsheet...haven't seen it yet, but looking forward to it.

And thanks...Michael's feeling better today. Went back to school finally, but it wore him out...he fell asleep when he got home and was out like a light. Got him up long enough to get him in his jammies and get in bed...He was glad to go back to school though.

I thought I was a planner til I read your plan - you REALLY plan what you will be doing! Sounds like a wonderful day! I am sure you will enjoy it!!

Thanks! I can't wait...hopefully the days will fly by!

I cannot believe your DH agreed to leaving the 30th - YEAY for you. You ca get good rates on hotels at hotwire .com or orbitz .com

I am REALLY glad to hear your DS is doing better!

Good luck with the last ADR's - I will tell you the one time we ate at ND it was TERRIBLE, the CM's at our resort actually gave us those DDP credits back. Also, I said it before, and I will say it again, Shula's is overrated and expensive. Personally, I'd rather eat somewhere Disney - if you want to spend all that money go to Cali Grill or Arist Point (much better - Cali is my fav!!).

Hope that doesn't make your head a scarier place to be . . .
