Our little thread of BIG Resort changes*OLD THREAD link on last pg. to new thread!

We leave one week from today!!:dance3:

I have a lot on my to do list today, so I'd better get with it. I'll check in later RC friends. :goodvibes

Good morning, ladies. :grouphug:

Has anyone heard from Kook? I know she's in NoVa, just concerned she might have known someone there at the Navy Yard.

Miss... I couldn't agree more. WDW is the prize. You've a wise and wonderful DH.

Sometimes when you get all the specifics down and take a break from them, when you return the master plan doesn't look nearly as good as it originally did piece-meal, so then it's Tweaking Time. Muuuuuuahhhhhhahaha!

DH and I love our EOS and Casey's hot dogs just as much as CG and Shula's (and our Sci Fi, and Hoop-de-Doo, too!). The main thing is that the day-to-day "master plan" has got to "work" and not feel hurried or stressful.

Thanks, Magic. Tweaking Time, we're all experts here when it comes to these moments. I just couldn't believe all that I had planned on our arrival day. Crazy. :upsidedow

Hi Miss,
I am glad to hear you are feeling better. I think you are totally on the right track with simplifying a few ADRS. You guys are going to have a lovely anniversary!

I'm living vicariously through all of your meal plans now. :rotfl:

Change needs to happen

 Sorry things are difficult for you guys.

Miss I wish I could be brave and schedule just 2 ADRs, mine go up and own like a yoyo I re-added Jiko and now second guessing it yet again.

Have you been to Jiko before? popcorn:: I did a few peeks in when we walked past because the smells wafting out the doorway were absolutely heavenly. :cloud9: (We still haven't tried it.) What about Sanaa or Boma? We've only done breakfast at Boma and apps/drinks at Sanaa. There's such a wealth to choose from at AKL. Heck, after this last trip, I think The Mara is one of the best CS (THE best?) in the entire WDW complex.

Hello again everyone!! :wave2: We're finally home from a trip that ran at times was wonderful, others had be throwing up, and yet others had me being asked to leave a festival and being threatened with a police escort out.

Welcome home, Wookie. :goodvibes So glad for the upgrade you got. Wonder if it was out where our room was -- was quite a hike. Sorry about the motion sickness and incident at the gumbo fest. Clueless idiot, you should write a letter.

Hi to everyone else. So our drama, DD9 is now in a walking cast for 4-6 weeks. The sore foot, can't run on it foot, has been feeling like that for 3 weeks foot actually has a small fracture. I really really want to tell DH I told you so, mom's antenna was up on this one. I just KNEW there was something wrong, and DH kept saying it is 'no big deal'.

Anyway, hopefully she will be out of it before our trip. But if not, we will be renting a double stroller instead of a single.

Jen

Oh NO! Was it a sports injury?! Poor kiddo. Give her a hug from us.

You can't ROOT for the Jets. You just watch, expecting the worst and hoping for the best.

:lmao: I'm in the same predicament (every. single. year.) with my team, Washington. Travesty. Wonder if I've got any paper bags to put over my head?

I have had that realization with ADRs and park planning a few times. In May we ended up canceling one of our breakfast plans, and ordering room service instead. It was PERFECT.

Ah, that's a good idea -- room service. :thumbsup2

Don't know what I was thinking, really. Original plan before dumping the ADR: We'd have arrived around 1pm, checked in, had a FP+ for TSMM between 2-3pm, an ADR at 5:10 at CG and breakfast at the castle the next morning at 8:30. Insanity.

But I do have an official change....BLT and all my ADRs are no more :( I did book CR for Jan 4-6 to help ease the sting just a bit.

Well, I like that "easing of the sting", my friend! :woohoo: I was thinking of maybe a split between an Epcot and then perhaps WL/CR? Dunno. It's if I can persuade the hubs to stay away from the Epcot area for a couple nights. :upsidedow

Just a thought for your anniversary DHS day, you could go to Brown Derby, and have the amazing Cobb Salad for dinner or lunch. We've gone twice at lunch. And ordered it. So good! ADRs easy to get. Don't have to get real gussied up, lol. Nice atmosphere for your anniversary, and not really much more then you'd spend for a CS meal.
Maybe a slice of the grapefruit cake for dessert?

Thanks Sue! Believe it or not ( :rotfl: ) I was checking out the menu for Brown Derby. I think we'll keep it in mind when we head to the park (though sans ADR) and just wing it if we decide to go for a sit-down that night. The salad and that cake sound SO good. I'm planning on putting Miss M's hair in curlers in preparation for her first breakfast at the castle the next morning; she'll be wearing her Merida dress. (Doesn't know where we're going; I've fibbed to her that she could wear her dress to the park that day.) So, with all that to do, the original now-cancelled plan was a big mistake.

The DH has moved up when he wants to go to WDW next. Instead of it being for our 85th wedding anniversary, he's saying 2030. I'm breaking him down already.
Wookie, you really are breaking him down. :rotfl2: Glad your trip was mostly good and that you loved AKL.

The DH was so funny about the location of the room. I'll have to make a Robo-type map to show how far it was, but at one point coming home from a park at night he was like, "if you call this death march a a good thing that was caused by pixie dust, the next time I see that stinking fairy, I'm taking her out with your dad's elephant rifle."
Agree 100% with your DH. Our upgrade to the 1-BR that first night didn't fling nearly enough Pixie Dust around to make up for that excrutiatingly long walk. Now when we got over to CL, room location was all bet-ter, near the lobby and near the lounge! :cloud9: Does anyone know if AKL has a "Preferred Room" type like the Mods and Values do that isn't CL? I guess maybe that would be Pool View?

Hi to everyone else. So our drama, DD9 is now in a walking cast for 4-6 weeks. The sore foot, can't run on it foot, has been feeling like that for 3 weeks foot actually has a small fracture. I really really want to tell DH I told you so, mom's antenna was up on this one. I just KNEW there was something wrong, and DH kept saying it is 'no big deal'. Anyway, hopefully she will be out of it before our trip. But if not, we will be renting a double stroller instead of a single.
Sending best wishes for a DD9 speedy recovery before the :wizard:

You can't ROOT for the Jets. You just watch, expecting the worst and hoping for the best. :rotfl:
Yep! We've mastered THAT plan. We are Jets and Bears fans... and Giants fans. :rolleyes1

:lmao: I'm in the same predicament (every. single. year.) with my team, Washington. Travesty. Wonder if I've got any paper bags to put over my head?
Here ya go!!

I have my fingers crossed Bob will love AKL as much as I did my first stay there.
Me too. Fingers crossed for Bob. :yay:

But I do have an official change....BLT and all my ADRs are no more :( I did book CR for Jan 4-6 to help ease the sting just a bit.
babyberger, a new CR booking is better than Bactine to take that sting away methinks! :woohoo: Sorry for the change  but we FLs loooove our weekend jaunts. Hope you can plan a few more.

So funny, we are doing that exact same thang with my Cuz in December before the Lights get switched on at DHS. :goodvibes Cuz and I will get the Cobb and GF Cake, and my DH will order the Duck, yuk. :duck:

January trip, just looked at prices for WL :scared1: when did they go up so much :confused3. Last time we stayed (with 40%AP discount, I think that was the last 40% they gave) it was well under $200 for woods view! Now I calculate if I get a 30% discount for a Standard view it would be around $246 or something. That's crazy!! What a price jump they must have had. Bleck. So now I'm considering either POR or POFQ. I love both those resorts. I like the landscaping more at POR, and like the compactness of POFQ.
Once we finish our Resort Quest, DH and I were just recently saying that we'd like to try rebalancing the WDW budget, and for a couple years doing more visits per year with either buying DVC, or with more stays at Values and Mods (and one nice Deluxe stay per year). That way, if we are at WDW more, we can golf there and do other stuff onsite that we never manage to fit in to our schedule now. At least that's our big ideas for this week.

We leave one week from today!!:dance3:
Oh I can't wait til you get there!!!! I'll want to hear every detail! :cheer2:

You are so close I'll bet you can smell the Grey Goose Slushies!!! :hourglass

Checking in from the infirmary! Played hooky from work today and it's a Disney marathon on Destination America. I feel like that's some universal symbol I did the right thing. I'm miserably sick with a sinus infection, and both littles are sick as well. Lily moreso than Daniel, and I sent him to school. I'm making my work day up tomorrow.

Awwwww, feel better soon! I am home with the girls today too, but because it's a teacher workshop day and Election Day. But, DD6 is not feeling well and hasn't been for about two days, so she has been getting a lot of r & r today. I can't say I haven't fallen asleep on the couch a couple of times today either...:rolleyes1

Good Afternoon Everyone!

Wookie: so sorry you had motion sickness after your thrill rides! I'm very lucky I don't get those symptoms on loops or roller coasters, but you can bet I'd be grabbing for those bags if I dared to try orange side on mission space!!! I'll stick to green side, thank you very much!!! :) glad you where pixie dusted with a beautiful savahnah view!! AKL is my favourite resort, and just feels like home :)

Jen: so sorry to hear about dd's foot! Hope it's all better for your trip! Pixie dust wishes for speedy healing!

Melissa: so sad to hear about Stevens struggles, I hope you can get things settled for all of you and I'm thinking of you and sending love and support for you all!

My trip seems to be falling into place! It's a Quickie at 5 days in the parks -- but still a much anticipated trip!
I am excited to be staying with Christine at French Quarter :-) it's a perfect trip to try a mod for the first time!

I have booked Sanna for my arrival night dinner - at 7:15 pm. Excited to share dinner with Janet, Rosie and hopefully Linda if she can book her flight for the 3rd. I've never eaten at Sanna yet, so it will be a nice , new dining experience! Although a bit dark in Dec by 7:15 pm to see many animals I'm thinking!
Still excited for the dining experience :)

Dani: Get Well Soon to you and yours! (((Hugs))) to you all!

Hope you all are having a terrific Tuesday!

Marie

Ps.... Candace, I'm so excited to hear how you and BFF like POFQ :-) I'll be living vicariously through you!!!! Have an amazing time :-)

Once a resort changer, always a resort changer :confused3

So I have decided since we are not spending a week at BLT and eating at CG, BoG, etc, that I can easily justify spending more for our one night in Sept. Hubby would love to just save all the money, but we all know I was having a hard time swallowing POP. I know there is now way I can convince him to stay deluxe, even though there is a std room at YC available with the AP disc :rolleyes1 But I am pretty sure I can convince him (well just tell him really) of a pref room at POR so we get 2 queens plus the pull down that Sarah can sleep on. I'm just going to wait until tomorrow so I can stop at Target or BJ's after I take my truck in for service and pick up some discounted gift cards then I will call and make the change as long as it is still available. I would really love to be at YC instead (no CR avail) but I think I can live with POR

As for the BLT trip, we talked more last night and Steven very maturely said there was no way he could miss that much school. I think it was harder to cancel all my ADRs than it was to call and cancel the BLT reservation itself :sad2:

Thanks. I really shouldn't have gotten on EE, since my tummy was feeling funny as we walked the queue. I just thought I was being paranoid since it didn't bother me the last time I rode it.

The DH was the only one that had an issue with the trek. It was totally worth it to me. I LOVED the AKL!! The CM's were all super nice and helpful. I had the same reaction when I first walked into the AKL lobby that I did when I walked into the the WL lobby. Except this time it was JM that had to remind me to breathe and move so we could check-in instead of my DH. When I saw pictures, I thought it was beautiful, but even the best pictures just don't do it justice. I could easily spend several days there, never enter a park, and have an amazing trip. They just have so many cool artifacts to see, that I would just love to wander the halls looking at them. Out of all the WDW resorts we have stayed at (CBR-pre pool refurb, WL, Pop, AKL), it is by far my favorite pool. My only issue with the pool being the hot tub right next to a DSA. Even my DH went down the slide several times. I probably wouldn't stay there again on a quick trip, just because there is so much at the resort that I would like to do. However, if I could convince the DH to go for 10 days or more, it would be the resort I would want. I would just spring for an Arusha view so I could sit on the balcony and watch the zebras and giraffes. I did wish The Mara had more options. The stew was really good, but I wouldn't want to eat it more than once or twice in a trip. The portion was so big that I had to give at least half of it to Joey. The chicken pita was really good as well, just messy. The hand carved ham sandwich was also really good. I just didn't like the sauce that came with it, so I am glad I got it on the side. Plus the bread, well there was just so much of it. With that meal, I was only able to eat the ham off the sandwich and about half my fries. The DH and Joey liked the bacon cheeseburger, but JM didn't. JM and the DH both liked the pepperoni flatbread. I just wish we had realized, before the day of our check-out, that ice creams counted as a dessert on the DDP. If I had known that, every time we ate at The Mara, I would have had a Mickey ice cream bar.

wookie My trip in 2006 was just a long weekend Friday-Monday but I still managed to spend Sunday and Monday at the resort I just loved the displays and the animals. You are so right about the lobby having the "WOW" aspect when you first enter.
I loved the Mara my previous stay and Boma was the best breakfast. As far as being close to the lobby and elevators is what I requested but from what I know of AKL all Std rooms are on floors 1-4 on the ostrich and giraffe trails facing the front entrance/parking lot. I stayed in a Std in 2006 and the location was great so I think it is a matter of view or location. I considered a pool view but even some of those rooms can be a bit of a hike plus the trees have grown such some of the pool views are almost none existent now, a peak of water thru the trees.

as of now out of our 6 days I Definately have 1 1/2 days devoted to the resort plus 2-3 evening.

Good morning, ladies. :grouphug:

Have you been to Jiko before? popcorn:: I did a few peeks in when we walked past because the smells wafting out the doorway were absolutely heavenly. :cloud9: (We still haven't tried it.) Miss Never have been to Jiko, one reason I keep going back and forth about eating there. I am not even sure if it was there in 2006? I'm sure it was and I just don't recall seeing it :rotfl2:

We really enjoyed our meal at HBD last trip everything was great, atmosphere was quiet, food was very good and our server was the best.

Wookie, you really are breaking him down. :rotfl2: Glad your trip was mostly good and that you loved AKL.

Marie I am looking forward to eating at Sanaa for the first time too. Kidani was not built yet during my last stay. I've made both a lunch and a dinner ADR I know we are keeping the lunch may or may not keep dinner depending on how Bob likes the food, he is so picky :headache:

With the right discount and right time of year, it would be better. Last year, our WL CL room was $249/night! :

Yes, I'm going to have to keep my eyes out for January discounts for WL. But because we go twice a year, with a few exceptions, we do book moderates for Jan. visits. And with my $$$ house renovations going on, I probably should keep the big girl panties up, and stick to POR or FQ

We leave one week from today!!

I have a lot on my to do list today, so I'd better get with it. I'll check in later RC friends. :goodvibes
Yikes, not packed yet!!!! Won't be long now. Yay

Love the Grand Marnier sp? Slush too! I don't mind mods at all. Love both the POR resorts.

I'll be single digit dancing tomorrow!! I'm so ready! Well, except for that whole packing thing...:scratchin

Yay!!

I just love my RC family. You guys are seriously the best.

Candace I love dozing off on the couch when the kids are asleep. Lily was pretty well behaved today as well. Especially since she didn't feel well, she was a super mush. I hope your girls feel better soon! I can't believe tomorrow is your single digit dance!

What a trip!! At least there were some good parts! Great upgrade! Funny, I can't do tea cups, but no probs with the coasters. I know not to do RnRc after eatting, lol. One time I went on after a turkey leg, and felt ill, so now I go before eatting!
I think you should write a letter to the C of C about your treatment. Ignorant people
2030

I think me getting sick on EE was a perfect storm of me getting sick the day before, having just eaten, and it was hot and super humid.

I really am thinking of writing a letter.

We leave one week from today!!

It was room 2561. It was right on the corner and is where the heart is on the map below...

Wookie, you really are breaking him down. :rotfl2: Glad your trip was mostly good and that you loved AKL.

It really was mostly good. The DH even rode the Little Mermaid ride with me, so I could ride it twice in a row. As soon as we got off the ride, he asked me what I thought of it. All I could do was smile, giggle, and chant "again, again, again."

Checking in from the infirmary! Played hooky from work today and it's a Disney marathon on Destination America. I feel like that's some universal symbol I did the right thing. My DH asked me why the CM's kept saying "welcome home", and I said that's what they want it to feel like. It really did. I could never do the orange side of mission space. I am too paranoid with my blood pressure issues that it would literally kill me. Plus the fact that it will make me sick. I was just hoping that with everything I took I could handle those kind of rides, since my DH loves them and the DSs hate them. I was hoping I could ride them with him. Oh well, at least I can still do Space Mountain, and BTMRR. After this last trip, I am marking EE off my "can do" rides.

Sounds like so much fun!! I would love to go during Christmas season, especially so we could see Edward James Olmos be the presenter for the Candlelight Processional.

Once a resort changer, always a resort changer

I think it was harder to cancel all my ADRs than it was to call and cancel the BLT reservation itself

That is great that he wasn't upset and he was so mature about it. It just shows what a great job y'all are doing.

wookie My trip in 2006 was just a long weekend Friday-Monday but I still managed to spend Sunday and Monday at the resort I just loved the displays and the animals.

The only time we ate breakfast one day, it was just ok. We got the breakfast sampler at The Mara that had eggs, breakfast potatoes, bacon, sausage, a biscuit, a small MH waffle. The eggs were edible, but needed salt. The potatoes were cold, yet burned, so I didn't eat them. I traded my DH my sausage for his bacon, and it was ok (I've had worse). The waffle was good, and I couldn't eat the biscuit due to lack of space in my tummy.

Hi Ladies,

I promise to catch up, but I just quickly wanted to share something totally :offtopic: My cousin that lives in Nova Scotia has been trying out for the NHL and has been picked up by the New York Rangers, AND he has made the first round of cuts! He actually played last night (12 minutes game time!) and here is a picture of him...his name is Shawn O'Donnell

I think the look on his face is priceless...he looks so starstruck and happy to be there. Send some pixie dust that he makes it further!! pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

That is so awesome!! (Although I disagree about it being OT, I don't think anything is OT here.) I love the look on his face!! You can tell he's doing something he truly loves, not just doing it to make tons of money and have groupies follow him around like love sick puppies
Sending a Texas sized load of pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust: his way. Does he have an ultimate dream team he would love to play for, or does he not care as long as he gets to play?

He had tried for Boston first, but that didn't work out, so New York was calling after that from what I understand. My Dad is so happy, they were down east a few weeks ago and he played cards endlessly with my Dad... Poor guy, but what a good sport!:lmao:

Thank you everyone for the healing words and thoughts for Kailey, I truly truly appreciate you all. :grouphug:

She was a trooper today, her first day with her aircast and crutches. She will be ok. I really really want to tell her about Disney though. And next Tuesday is her sedation dental work. Now THAT I am worried about. But she will be ok. I keep repeating this to myself can you tell??;)
