In disney right now, just back from our dinner at Le Cellier:

Got to Epcot early, started raining so headed towards Canada for our 6:35 reservation- waited a while, terrible thunderstorms. Girl in lobby was doing trivia games to keep us entertained. Lights flickered after a terrible bang of thunder. Then the manager came out and said that the kitchen gas was down and were experiencing extended delays while crew fixing it and we would be seated soon. They were turning other new reservations away. We were seated shortly after at about 7:10pm, only to find out that the gas was still not fixed and apparently the building was struck by lightning.

We were very disappointed as we had made reservations almost 6 months ago! The server told us the menu was limited at this point and there was no ETA on fixing it- NO FILET!!! She said we were able to order prime rib or halibut but my daughter could only order the pasta (no hot dog/steak).
At this point we were ready to leave but it was still heavilly raining and had already invested almost an hour of waiting. The restuarant was getting pretty empty (they were not seating new diners at this point -only those that had been waiting so long).
There must have been many dissapointed people out there I am sure. Some customers were trying to work out another night but as you know Le Cellier isw booked solid. They were also offering to find another restaurant in substituition for the night (but remember it was dounporing out there)

Surprisingly the prime rib was delicious, so was everything else we were able to order. I was able to get the cheese soup- delicious! Desserts were amazing too! Plus waitress said we got the last pasta, the last sausage appetizer, and almost the last breadsticks...NO SOURDOUGH! I guess things are pre-cooked but they started running out of those too.

By the time we left shortly after 8 we noticed they were seating new tables-the kitchen was back up! Can you believe that? Talk about timing!

By the way, they ended up not charging us AT ALL for the meal so in the long run it was worth the aggrevation:) ,But will never be worth the disappointment of not being able to experience the full menu and Le Cellier experience :(

Oy! What an experience. Sorry about all of the rain. What are the odds the building would get struck by lightning!? But how great they comped your meal. Hope you're having a good time despite the weather. And this way you just have another item on your "next time" list. Which means that you can start planning your next trip as soon as you get back (or while you're there if you want to book bouncback!) :goodvibes

what an amazing night for you......I am glad that your experience was still a good one.......we love the prime rib when we go there and the soup with the bread sticks .YUMMY.......thanks for telling us about your night.....

I am sorry about the weather.. that stinks.
However it sounds like Le Cellier did a top notch job under really difficult circumstances:thumbsup2
And they even comped the meal on top of it all. That is fantastic.

Well....maybe try to think about the fact that you have memories that almost no one else that has visited WDW, and specifically Le Cellier, has ever had. It's makes it a very unique experience. Plus, you have bragging rights to having gotten a free meal at Le Cellier, lol.

Ok....just trying to find something positive for you!

We don't need quite that much rain here, but if you wanted to send maybe half of it over to Arizona, we'd happily accept it! We haven't had any decent rainfall in months.

A couple of years ago we had an ADR at Boma and when we got there, they had had a fire in the kitchen and closed the restaurant for the rest of the night. I think we ended up eating at Mara (food court)!

Things happen, and it's disappointing, but it sounds like you had a good attitude about it and I'm sure they appreciated it! Besides, that just gives you an excuse to go back, right? ;)

I have to say, I think you had a very lucky evening.

There was lightning, massive rain, and the restaurant staff not only managed to provide you with a nice dinner, but gave it to you for free due to some delays and menu reductions that were the fault of Mother Nature, not their doing.

How amazingly fortunate for you! Hope maybe time will allow you to see the wonderful night you got at a place where so many can not even get a step in the door.

We had the same thing happen to us during lunch one time in the summer. The lightning struck somewhere near and the power was out in the kitchen. It took some time, but they managed to restore the power and we did get lunch--it was quite a wait though.

This outage happened just as the restaurant was opening and it had a large amount of patrons waiting to be seated. If you can imagine, everyone arriving on time for their ADR and everyone being seated at once--what a strain that placed upon the kitchen and wait staff--oh yeah, and we were all drenched and freezing as well! :lmao: Sorry to say, no free lunch for us.

Wow, it sounds like they really went above and beyond! Are you writing them a thank you letter?

Yes, we will be writing a letter and they did go above and beyond- I would have been happy with a free round of drinks!

It is wonderful that you had a free meal AND it was good!;) I would have been disappointed too if I missed out on the filet.

Aww that is ashame!!! It was nice of them to not charge you though!

I read (elsewhere) where another family was there and ended up eating at Chef de France that night. Sounds like your meal was actually pretty good. Sorry you were disappointed though.

We had a similar experience when going to LeCellier in October 2007. No storms, but the gas was out in the kitchen. They offered to seat us, but it'd be a 'cold' menu i.e. NOTHING heated.

We were cool with it and kind to the CM's as they quickly found us a new reservation. Other guests were MUCH more vocally upset. We were disappointed - most here know how hard it can be to get a LeCell reservation - but it wasn't those CM's fault and yelling wasn't going to change the fact.

:rotfl: That's where they sent us too. (In Oct 2007)
