Our kitty is worse (update - she's crossed over)

Trixie has gotten worse and we have had to make the decision tonight. I will be calling the vet in the morning to help relieve her of the pain she is in. She has been an awesome companion and friend over the last 12 years. We haven't told Nick yet because he had a baseball game tonight and we wanted him to concentrate on it. Afterwards I didn't want to bring down the winning smiles so I decided to let him get a good nights sleep. He didn't take it well when his grandparents dog passed and I am so not looking forward to telling him in the morning. He understands she is sick and has been for over a year. It is hard to believe she has fought this illness for so long. However the meds just aren't working anymore and she looks really bad. Please pray for Nick if you think about it. He took it hard when we found out she was sick and although I think he knows it is close to her time it won't make it any easier.

I'm so sorry. It is never easy to make a choice like this and our pets are so wonderful. Watching them suffer is so hard. Nothing so innocent and sweet should ever have to feel pain. My thoughts are with you .

As a Mum to three Kitties (and 2 in heaven) I know how you feel. It breaks your heart and will your sons too. As you said, he likely already knows time is short and all I can offer is to tell him you are also just as sad and it's allright to cry and mourn the loss.

They leave their little footprints all over our hearts and life is never the same after they go.

The kindest act we can do for our pets often is knowing when it is time to let them go
