Last week I had to put my 21 year old Siamese baby down, she went into complete kidney failure. Jamie and my other cat Ms. Disney (yes that is her name) have been just so sad. Both have been all over the house looking for their big sister, etc. Both have cried and wine, etc. My cat is not eating to well, but she is starting to eat some. It just breaks my heart to see them like this. For now I have left out the bed which the cat just loved. Both Jamie and Ms. Disney go over to it, I hope they both feel better soon.

I'm sorry you're all having to deal with this loss. Yes, the fuzzies mourn too, but I'm sure they knew your Siamese was sick. :(

That is so sad to hear. :grouphug: to you and your furbabies.

Oh my goodness, this is so true! Back in 1999, we lost a cat named The Old Cat. He was a stray that found us. He brought another stray kitty to live with us and she was his best friend. When he died we buried him in the backyard. Well the other stray would go to the back window and look out toward where he was resting and cry and cry. It was heartbreaking.

Some may find this strange but I think the next time one of our cats die I will let the other cats see him or her. Then they will know that their friend isn't coming back and not think that they're lost. :sad1:

Back in January my Boo died an awful painful death-I'm still ticked with my vet. His half brother Peanut mourned for a while. He would sit at the patio door and cry. He was very moody and the other 2 cats would get smacked by him if they went near him. Then after a few weeks, there was an ongoing battle with Peanut and the other male in the house(Vinny)-I guess to see who is the dominant male seeing Boo (Louie was his real name) was the big cheese there.
Yes they do mourn. It's so sad to watch- it makes it harder for humans to heal :sad2:

I'm sorry about your loss. Losing a pet is awful and heartbreaking.

My cat, Tif, died in May. My little gray cat, Lucy, was his best friend and she still mourns for Tif. Lucy now tries to take up with Shamu, our older black and white cat but Shamu doesn't like another cat to cuddle up to him. It's sad to watch. I feel so sorry for Lucy....she seems so lost at times without another cat to cuddle up to.

Pets do grieve. We inherited our dogs because thier owner (my MIL) passed away.

For about a week, both dogs stood at the door and window looking out for her. If the door opened, they would look for her.

It was easier on the Lab than the poodle after her death. The poodle was pretty young (2 or so) and my MIL got him as a pup, so it was harder for him.

Then the Lab passed away last year at 15. Again, the poodle looked out the window for a over a week looking for the Lab. The poodle won't sit under an end table since that was the Labs spot. The poodle sees other Labs and gets all angry I guess. We went to a vaccination clinic in our town and one of the other pet owners had an older Black Lab, similar to ours. My poodle went ballistic! I actually had to pick him up!

:grouphug: we had a cockateal Jasper for about 18 years, her cage hung in the living room, we also have a cat, one day we came home and dd12 says where's the bird? she had passed away and was on the bottom of the cage, when dh came home he took the cage down. Shadow our cat was depressed for a week or so.....going to the spot in the living room and just gazing into the air where the bird used to hang........we bought him a new toy to try to cheer him up! :grouphug:

My oldest cat was taken and missing a week before we found his remains and the younger cat took a very long time to get over him (as did everyone else). She sat outside the front door waiting for him, wouldn't even bathe and would barely eat.

When my parents moved she seemed to move past it, but she was never buddy buddy with the youngest cat the way she was with the oldest.

It's a terrible thing to be unable to explain to them what happened.

I'm sorry for everyone's loss. :grouphug:

awww...poor furbabies!

Yes, they do grieve (which I guess means they DO have some emotions and feelings).

Here's some info so that maybe you can help them through their grieving process:

Wow, thanks for posting that.

I am so sorry for your loss. My cats went through the same thing when we lost our oldest last year to heart failure. Just like with people, it will get better with time. Your all in my thoughts and prayers. :grouphug:

I'm sorry for your loss, best wishes to you and your baby. If you ever feel you need support just let it out here, or maybe visit the www.petloss.com forums and chatroom.

They absolutely do grieve. :( Give them some extra cuddles, and talk to them. Tell them your other kitty was sick and (s)he's gone. While they may not understand the words, it helps. They'll understand the emotion behind it.

Animals truelly are human , sometimes they're MORE compasionate then the humans with 2 legs! :grouphug:
