Our Day in the Sky

Today is a gloomy day….one that makes you SO glad to leave it behind and head to the Caribbean sunshine!! The day before we had temperatures in the 80’s and when we left our house for the airport we had sleet and snow and mid 30’s.

My parents took us to the airport for our flight and we got to the airport and through security in record time. We had picked the kids up from school so we fed them at the pizza place and then set off for the gate. Delta now will NOT feed coach class passengers a meal for free even as long as we were on the flight which was over 4 hours and about 1900 miles I think. They offered the option to purchase meals so we opted to feed the kids and then see if we were hungry when they offered the meal. They did offer a meal which was a sandwich for $8.00 each or some chips for $3.00. Talk about getting a Disney welcome for prices early! (And yes we have done Disney many times but it still is a shock when you see all the prices they charge just because they can)

About 4:10 pm we boarded our 4 ½ hour flight to Orlando. We took off about 10 minutes late, and our flight started bumpy, and then got smoother. We had the Flight Attendant from what I can only assume the FAA training board for Flight Attendants because she was a “by the book” person. 2 hours into the flight the light was still on for seatbelts and she was getting furious at people needing to use the restroom. We FINALLY landed at Orlando International about 10:40 local time and set off for the tram. Had to wait about 10 min for a tram to take us to luggage claim. We went down the escalator in search for our driver who would be taking us to Port Orleans Riverside. We found him and he set off to tell us where our bags would be and then to catch the elevator down the next level and find him and he walked off leaving me and hubby to deal with 3 exhausted kids and a ton of luggage (remind me again…why was it we got a private car service?). We finally got it wrestled downstairs and to the van where he actually did end up loading it for us (that was really nice of him…I guess he thought that would bump up his tip) and then we set off. It was humid and hot. We asked him to make a grocery stop which we had requested beforehand but he told us the only place he could stop would be a 7-11 market. We were hoping to get a few things at a grocery store but ended up with two 12 packs of pop and some water bottles. We were finally on our way to the hotel where we finally arrived a little after 11:30.

Left the kids and hubby at the entrance and went into to register us. It took me almost 30 min to get us registered, get our room keys and purchase our first day at Magic Kingdom. At that time the front desk clerk informed me that since we arrived so late and it took so long to get us registered that there was no bell service since it was after midnight so we would have to walk it with 3 exhausted kids (one of which fell asleep waiting for us to get checked in), the drinks we bought at 7-11, 5 bags of luggage (think of us as members of over packers anonymous) along with 2 carryon bags and the kids backpacks.

He also gave us the wonderful walk of Alligator Bayou building 26 which I swear was one of the farthest buildings on the property from the front desk AND a room on the second floor.

By the time we got the kids and the luggage to the room it was near 12:45 and we still needed to get on our pajamas and get the kids settled. We also had to make the trundle bed for our youngest. By the time we got into bed it was almost 1:30 am local time.

*Note to self: NEVER EVER fly into Orlando that late again with kids*

I hope you didn't use Tiffany Towncar, that's who we have booked for our June 19th cruise!! :(

No we didn't use Tiffany Towncar...we used a company that I think was a sponsor of these boards a few years ago and we used them for our 2002 cruise and they were wonderful but not this time! I've never met such an unfriendly, unhelpful, unwilling to do anything for you driver in my life! It's ok though because our limo driver made up for everything else! LOL
