Our first time at the Fort - UPDATE days now complete

Even with everything that I wrote in my trip report, there was still so much more that I could have included. Like dancing with our kids, playing with hula hoops, catching bubbles, looking at the stars, smelling flowers, collecting leaves, shells, and pinecones, talking, laughing, answering inquisitive questions, holding hands, skipping, etc. etc.

Looking back, we definitely had a great trip despite the rainy days! Come to think of it, DH I think liked those days the best. Can anyone say wet t-shirts!

I also need to give both DH and I some big pats on the back for only having a few “discussions” during our travel time. Believe me it was hard at times to keep my mouth shut. I only got involved when he brought me into it.

The most memorable comments from others during the trip.-
Passing someone going in the opposite direction in MK. One person said something about going to Animal Kingdom. The other person responded, Isn’t that the park with the Animals?
Another was one of those you had to be there moments. Older couple leaving AK and could not find the bus stop they were to be at. He starts crossing the tram traffic area, she tells him about the sign saying do not cross. He shouts back over his shoulder Well Margaret, I’m going! They can arrest me AND give me a ticket!

Best non Disney entertainment is still provided by the park guests. Some people must not look into the mirror before they leave for the parks. It is either that or Disney puts magic mirrors everywhere. No way could you look at yourself and still go out in some of the outfits we witnessed. And people talk about those wearing crocs and fanny packs.
We didn’t get to witness any spousal fights, other than our own, this trip.

The biggest regret of the trip is not really experiencing the Fort. The only amenity that we used was the playground near our site. I can definitely see the advantages to having the use of a golf cart.
I would have loved to use the pool at least once, but the thought of lugging towels and kids on and off the internal bus, the time it would have taken to get from site to pool and then back, plus hearing about being cold and/or wet during the return back was enough to deter the thought.
We also did not get to go fishing. Had the rods in the cargo bay and the worms in the frig the entire trip.

One other detail that I did not include previously is that we upgraded to annual passes during one our exits from DHS. Another trip is in the works. Sorry to say, but we will be flying and staying at one of the hotels. Right now our family trips are about the characters, rides, and shows. Until the kids are older and interests/priorities start to change, we will let someone else have the chance to experience all that the Fort has to offer.
Until our return, we will have to read about all the great things happening at the Fort through the rest of you.

One more thing.
We got alot of comments on the t-shirts but the tie dye definitely was the one that got the most attention.
When I have to redo shirts I think I will be doing all tie dye.
Have at least year to experiment on different character shapes.

The shower just needs a new hose, the head and the base is okay, it is the part between. just need to order one and we can fix that ourselves or even just pick up something at wally world.

I have not received a call back from the service manager yet
Don't have time this week to drive 2 hours each way to have them look at it.
I already have it marked on my to do list for tomorrow. Still have a few issues from the last time it was in there that they are going to fix or replace.

OP - I can't believe you take showers in your RV. I think our hot water heater is only about 6 gallons. That wouldn't get my hair washed. On the travel legs, we just go stinky!!

We always use the comfort station, and like was said, don't worry about it on the travel day. Our shower stall now has an extra refrigerator mounted in it as well as additional storage. Like you, I couldn't was my hair with 6 gallons of hot water. I'm lucky I get the dishes washed sometimes.

Again...wow!! We are heading down in our RV in August from Hughesville, PA (near Williamsport). Not sure where to stay overnight on the way down. Let us know what you think. Hoping to go 12 hours. I don't drive the motorhome so it will be all my hubby, so we will go as long as he can! Have a great time!

We just stop in one of the rest areas. I don't drive the MH either, so I let him decide when he has had enough driving. We usually try and leave on Saturday because the traffic is much lighter.

Ours is a 10 gallon. As hot as that water gets you use more cold than hot.
For us it is the holding tanks that seem to fill up faster than the water tank empties.
We always used the comfort station when we had the old MH.

You learn so much on these posts. I didn't recall ever running out of hotwater in our MH. But we don't use it much. We've put only 6000 miles on it in three years. It's still like new. I didn't realize that it even had a hot water tank. I guess I thought it was one of those tankless systems. So after reading your post I looked it up and surprise, it does have a hot water tank. The good thing is that it's 10 gallons.
What surprises me is that some RVers can be somewhat plump. We are both small people and we think the shower is ok for us, but it could be bigger. I don't see how average size or larger people are able to take a shower. At first I thought our shower might have been small, but I've since found out that it's the standard size for diesel pusher MH like ours.

We (let me mention that I cannot stand DH’s driving) will drive as far as we (I cannot stand DH’s driving) can with both of us taking turns (did I mention, I cannot stand DH’s driving) until dark at which time we (in case you did not catch it before, I cannot stand DH’s driving) will pull into a Super Walmart (not trying to start a debate) spend the night (if the kids and I haven’t bailed out by then) and drive (should I be taking bets on who is driving) the remainder the next morning.

Let me see....Rolling Driver Switches , can't make a U Turn , exits can be problematic . No further explanation needed. I can't stand his driving either!

Not sure how the rest of you do it, but we hose down, turn the water off, lather up, turn the water back on and rinse off.
As I said before the holding tanks seem to fill up fast.

Well, everyone has their own way of doing things. We have a shower in a small compartment that also includes the toilet. I have no problem fitting in the shower or even the step out area. Although I have to admit that I sometimes just close off the living area and leave the bathroom door open so as to not feel claustrophobic.

We have a 6 gallon hot water tank and DH and I have generally never had a problem running out of hot water. We kind of do it the same way you do. We used to call them "navy" showers since you often have to ration water on the ship.

And for me, I could never imagine NOT using the shower facilities in my RV. It was one of the reasons we upgraded from the pop up so no more trips to the comfort station. But hey, to each his own.

WOW! Just had the chance to read your trip report from beginning to end and all I can do is echo everyone else in saying.."WOW!" You are certainly a power planner! But I do believe you might just win the prize of "Ultimate Park Hopper!" Holy Cow! From here to there and back.....and all without using Disney Transportation!

Now....the next time you get to come down with the RV....try to take a day (or more!) to relax and enjoy all the Fort has to offer! A day at the Fort is just as special as a day at any of the parks....and you can still have your character moments at the campfire with Chip and Dale. And resort hopping....take the boat to the Contemporary and in the evening you will surely run into Capt. Hook and Smee. Ride the monorail... just because. Ride bikes or walk to the Wilderness Lodge....these things shouldn't be missed. A Camp Day is a must! And park that car for a day!

P.S. The comfort stations at the Fort are GREAT! We always use them for showering while we are there. More room, more hot water...just easier. Give 'em a chance!
